The Islam Week at Kiel University continues to be criticised. At the request of the FDP, the event organised by the Islamic University Group is now being discussed by the state parliament’s education committee.
The Christian-Albrechts- University in Kiel (CAU) must examine the ‘serious allegations’, demands Christopher Vogt, Chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the state parliament. The event is to be discussed in the education committee on the 10th of July. Specifically, it is about the appearance of a speaker who, according to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, can be labelled as Salafist. In addition, an article in the newspaper Kieler Nachrichten states that there have been complaints within the university about a gender-segregated seating arrangement. In addition, women and men were supposed to use separate entrances.
The Islamic University Group rejects the allegations in the report. They were voluntary offers.
The university stated that it was taking the allegations seriously and was investigating them intensively. There is no place for any kind of discrimination or violence at the university. The CAU had made rooms available to the university group for the event. According to the university, the topics of the event were not conspicuous at the time.
