Boy Playing On Girls Lacrosse Team In Michigan Was Transitioned At 6 Years Old By Parents, Altered Birth Certificate To Hide Biological Sex

A trans-identified male has been secretly playing on a girls’ lacrosse team in Michigan. Branson “Sophie” Waitz, 17, is a junior at Dexter High School, where he also participates in girl’s cheerleading and may have roomed with female students during overnight trips.

According to a 2015 name change petition reviewed by Reduxx, Waitz’s parents legally changed his name from Branson to Sophie when he was just 6 years old. Significantly, the judge that approved their request ordered the State Registrar to re-issue a changed birth certificate and sealed the original, making it publicly impossible to know it was altered.

Waitz has been competing in girls’ sports without the apparent knowledge of the state’s governing body, the Michigan High School Athletics Association (MHSAA).

The MHSAA is a private, not-for-profit athletic body comprised of more than 1,500 public and private schools. The organization’s current policy allows boys who identify as transgender to participate on girl’s teams through a waiver process. However, Waitz has apparently been competing against girls without disclosing his biological sex, having not applied for a waiver.

Last year, Geoff Kimmerly, director of communications for the MHSAA, told CBS News that the MHSAA had not received a waiver application for neither the 2024-25 winter season nor the 2025 spring season.

In another report from last May, Kimmerly told local press that “no trans athletes played in girls’ sports” that season, and that only two trans-identified male students in the state of Michigan had received a waiver to play.

However, Waitz has been playing girls lacrosse since 2023, suggesting that he is doing so without the explicit knowledge of the MHSAA. He has been a top-performer on his lacrosse team at Dexter, which is currently just three regional games away from the Michigan state lacrosse championship.

As a result, Waitz’s participation on the girls’ lacrosse team may be a violation of MHSAA policies, as well as an Executive Order on female sports signed last year by President Trump. The Executive Order, titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” outlined measures that would be taken to enforce the protection of female sports within public education institutions, including at the high school level.

Despite this, Kimmerly has insisted, via a written statement, that the MHSAA has been in compliance with the laws.

“The MHSAA follows and will continue to follow all applicable state and federal laws. We are monitoring developments in this regard closely, including federal litigation challenging the recent Executive Order and potential changes to state law that have been introduced in the Michigan legislature. The MHSAA plays no role in either, however.”

Concerningly, Waitz appears to have been transitioned as a very young child by his parents. Posts on his father’s Facebook account from 2013 show him being referred to as a boy at age 3 or 4, but soon after he appears on his mother’s Facebook account wearing feminine clothing and bathing suits.

In 2017, Waitz’ parents signed an open letter to the Trump administration in collaboration with the Human Rights Campaign. The letter was described as being from “parents of transgender and non-binary youth” who wanted to condemned the “attempt to roll back critical protections for their children and young people across the United States.”

Waitz represents the latest in an emerging pattern of boys who were transitioned at extremely young ages and are attempting to go “stealth,” meaning they try to present themselves as being born female and may not have disclosed their biological sex with their teammates or athletic officials.

Speaking to Reduxx, Kim Jones of the Independent Council on Women’s Sports expressed concern about these cases.

“We are now seeing the first cases of boys who were subjected to medical intervention and puberty blockers excelling in girls’ sports,” Jones said. “Many of their parents have changed legal birth records, which are then used to deceive students, teachers, and coaches and to circumvent federal law.”

Jones noted that policies intended to protect women’s sports are falling short due to the extreme measures some families are taking to conceal their sons’ biological sex in order to allow them access to girls’ sports and girls’ locker rooms.

“Most of these policies rely on legal documents as a barrier to entry, such as the sex listed on birth certificates or passports. The problem is that, in most states and many countries around the world, those documents can be altered. Female students have rights and protections on the basis of their sex. These rights and protections can only be upheld if males cannot hide their sex. Calling this deception male ‘privacy’ simply removes consent, as well as federal and constitutional rights, from girls. This is why sex screening, such as the testing being implemented by the Olympics, represents the future of protecting the rights of women and girls and should become a necessary part of athletic registration and school enrollment.”

Sex screening through cheek swabbing involves collecting a small saliva sample from the inside of an athlete’s cheek using a sterile cotton swab to determine biological sex. The process is commonly described as quick and noninvasive.

“Until we have sex testing implemented across the board, female athletes cannot be truly guaranteed fairness in their sport, as we are learning from these increasingly common ‘stealth’ cases.”

Waitz is not the only “stealth” male known to be participating in girls lacrosse.

In Massachusetts, a boy named Michael “Millie” McDonald has been attracting accolades for his performance against girls. McDonald is a freshman at Winchester High School, and appears to have been transitioned by his parents when he was approximately 5 or 6 years of age.

A photo of McDonald, seen wearing a blue dress, and his sibling posted by his mother in 2017.

Earlier this month, McDonald was highlighted in a Mass Live article calling attention to the top performers in the state’s girls high school lacrosse scene. In it, his coach, Suzanne Onto, noted that he had “one of the best freshman campaigns [Ontso] had seen in her three-plus decades on the sidelines.”

Ontso was quoted as saying: “Millie’s speed, stick skills and game sense set her apart … She’s already drawing face guards in games. Millie will be a name you’ll hear in the future.”

Ontso also praised McDonald as a “phenomenal player” who was going to be a “dominant player for [Winchester].”

McDonald is also known to be participating on a girls’ ice hockey team, and is a top performer on the girls cross-country team at Winchester. Last year, McDonald placed third at the sectional championship, leading the Winchester girls’ team to their first sectional title in program history.

A spokesperson from HeCheatedan independent platform that tracks male participation in female sports, clarified that it is a common mistake to believe that boys who are transitioned earlier, like Waitz and McDonald, have less of a physical advantage over their female counterparts when it comes to sports.

“Boys who are more effeminate looking and especially those who have blocked puberty tend to garner more sympathy than boys who are more masculine looking when it comes to girls’ sports. This difference in treatment is not based on any sort of merit or difference in character, and certainly not on a lack of competitive advantage,” the spokesperson said.

Millie McDonald during a cross country meet.

“In the past couple of years, we’ve seen multiple boys who have blocked puberty excelling in girls’ athletics. They’ve led their teams to state championships in softball and basketball, won national championships in volleyball, even taking a California Interscholastic Federation MVP award. They have been ranked in the top 10 in the entire nation in track and field and one boy just recently took a state title in the shot put. This mentality of lookism, where boys who are more effeminate receive more favorable treatment, is discriminatory even within the group of trans-identified boys themselves.

“Girls’ sports are not for or low-performing males or males who can occasionally pass themselves off as girls. The entry into girls’ sports is not based on how someone looks or how good someone is at sports, but on sex. This needs to be enforced.”

Transgender male at the center of Supreme Court case wins girls’ state track title

Wikimedia Commons, Eija, CC-BY-2.0

A gender-confused boy who is at the center of a case currently before the U.S. Supreme Court in which West Virginia aims to ban biological males from female sports placed first in a state track and field competition last week.

“Becky” Pepper-Jackson placed first in the girls’ shot put and fourth in the girls’ discus in Class AAA at the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission’s (WVSSAC) state track and field championships.

Pepper-Jackson outthrew his nearest female shot put competitor by more than two feet, with the winning throw measuring 38 feet, 11.75 inches compared with the runner-up’s 36-11.

Although ACLU attorneys presented oral arguments to the Supreme Court in January, no decisions are expected until June, allowing Pepper-Jackson to continue to compete in girls high school sports.

The boy’s success perhaps comes at an inopportune time for his ACLU attorneys representing the cause of transgender athletes before the high court.

“Pepper-Jackson has now earned state champion status in dominant fashion, after the athlete’s own lawyers at the ACLU argued that males don’t have a competitive advantage over females, with ACLU attorney Joshua Block arguing ‘if the evidence shows there are no relevant physiological differences between B.P.J. and other girls, then there’s no basis to exclude her,’” Fox News’ Jackson Thompson noted.

News of the boy’s win in the female student competition prompted West Virginia Attorney General John McCuskey to fire off a letter to the Supreme Court.

“As a high school sophomore, B.P.J. is not finishing ‘near the back of the pack …’ but is instead defeating every — or nearly every — female in the state in these events. I would appreciate it if you could circulate this message to the members of the court,” McCuskey wrote.

“The developments from the state meet from this past weekend just underscore the fact that no amount of testosterone suppression or intervention can undo the very real differences that males have over women,” Alliance Defending Freedom attorney Suzanne Beecher told Fox News Digital.  “It really cuts against the ACLU’s argument.”

“What has already happened by putting West Virginia’s law on hold as it applies to West Virginia in the B.P.J case is that girls have already been harmed,” Beecher said. “When you ignore differences between boys and girls, and between males and females, a lot of the harm falls on girls.”

West Virginia’s “Save Women’s Sports Act” went into effect in 2021, preventing boys from participating in girls’ sports. Pepper-Jackson’s mother then sued to allow her son to continue to compete against girls.

Mandatory inclusion of gender-confused individuals in opposite-sex sports is promoted as a matter of “inclusivity,” but critics note that indulging “transgender” athletes undermines the original rational basis for having sex-specific athletics in the first place, thereby depriving female athletes of recognition and professional or academic opportunities as well as undermining female players’ basic safety and privacy rights by forcing them to share showers and changing areas with members of the opposite sex.

There have been numerous high-profile examples in recent years of men winning women’s competitions, and research affirms that physiology gives males distinct athletic advantages that cannot be fully negated by hormone suppression.

In a 2019 paper published by the Journal of Medical Ethics, New Zealand researchers found that “healthy young men (do) not lose significant muscle mass (or power) when their circulating testosterone levels were reduced to (below International Olympic Committee guidelines) for 20 weeks,” and “indirect effects of testosterone” on factors such as bone structure, lung volume, and heart size “will not be altered by hormone therapy;” therefore, “the advantage to transwomen (biological men) afforded by the (International Olympic Committee) guidelines is an intolerable unfairness.”

The U.S. Supreme Court’s Bostock decision, authored by Justice Neil Gorsuch, complicated the legal terrain on the issue in 2020 by ruling that “sex discrimination” in the Civil Rights Act should be interpreted to mean sexual orientation and gender identity in addition to its original biological meaning.

Such reasoning flies in the face of both the plain statutory meaning of “sex” in 1964 and the clear legislative intent of the lawmakers who drafted and passed the Civil Rights Act, ADF senior counsel John Bursch argues. “There is little dispute that, in 1964, the term ‘sex’ was publicly understood, as it is now, to mean biological sex: male and female. After all, the term ‘gender identity’ wasn’t even part of the American lexicon at the time,” he said. “Its first use was at a European medical conference in 1963. And no semblance of it appeared in federal law until 1990.”

France: Seven in Ten Believe Crime Is ‘Out of Control’, Country Faces ‘Mexinization’

A survey has found that over seven in ten people in France believe that crime is “out of control”, with fears that the country is sliding towards a “Mexinization” in which public authority is destroyed.

According to a poll this week from CSA for Le Journal du Dimanche, 72 per cent of French people believe that crime is out of control.

This belief is firmest among supporters of the centre-right Républicains at 92 per cent, followed by 83 per cent of National Rally, and 62 per cent of supporters of President Emmanuel Macron’s neo-liberal bloc.

The sentiment was also held by a majority of left-wing voters at 55 per cent overall. This included 58 per cent of supporters of the far-left La France Insoumise party of Jean-Luc Mélenchon and 51 per cent of Socialist voters.

Only Green Party supporters were below a majority, at just 45 per cent, in not believing that the country faces the prospect of becoming like Mexico, where the state loses authority to rogue criminal elements.

The survey found that women were more likely than men to view the situation as out of control, at 76 per cent to 69 per cent, respectively, perhaps as a result of increased concern over crimes like sexual assault.

Age also appears to have a significant effect on the opinion, with 76 per cent of people over 50 years old believing there has been a loss of control, compared to 71 per cent of respondents aged 25 to 44 and just 55 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds.

The poll was published shortly before the second year of riots, looting, and widespread mayhem on Saturday night following the repeat victory of the Paris Saint-Germain football club in the Champions League Final over London’s Arsenal.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said on Sunday morning that 780 arrests were made across France during the choatic celebrations, an increase of 30 per cent over last year’s victory over Milan in the same tournament.

Commenting on the social decay, National Rally leader Jordan Bardella said on Sunday morning: :In Paris, in Île-de-France as everywhere on the territory, violence and vandalism are multiplying. Groups are targeting public property, businesses, and law enforcement. The modus operandi is always the same: to stone, destroy, and pillage.

“Total support for our police, gendarmes, and firefighters who ensure the country’s protection in the face of an atmospheric violence that has become unbearable. The authority of the State must be upheld everywhere.”

Former Interior Minister and current presidential candidate Bruno Retailleau added: “Let’s be clear-eyed: this crisis of authority will not be resolved without addressing the migratory disorders that have for years fueled the erosion of respect for the law and the weakening of the republican pact.

“France should not have to endure this violence with every trophy. Order is a decision.”

Citing John 3:16 now a criminal act in the UK

Image: Pixabay // Pixabay Content License

by Eric Utter

A pastor in the U.K. was recently convicted for quoting John 3:16, arguably the most recognizable and often cited Bible verse.

So, in the U.S., you can spit at ICE officials, you can throw snowballs at cops, you can harass and swear at police and even lob dildos at any law enforcement personnel who disagree with you, without being made to account for that behavior.

In Europe, you can attempt to destroy classical pieces of art by heaving cans of spaghetti sauce on them, or disrupt traffic by blocking roads, but you cannot even silently pray outside of an abortion clinic or in its general vicinity. Obviously, that is beyond the pale.

John 3:16 states, “For God So loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

So, the U.K. criminalizes a Bible verse about a loving God (temporarily) sacrificing his Son to grant all of us the chance at eternal life … because the recitation or recognition of which may cause some people to question their desire to kill their sons or daughters for their own convenience? An act which, however heinous, is somehow not illegal!

We better hope that the message of John 3:16 is still true, because it would seem we are really testing His patience.

UK: Stansted Airport launches investigation after staff shouted ‘free Palestine’ and racial slurs at Israeli passengers

Stansted Airport has launched an investigation after a member of staff was filmed shouting “free Palestine” and racial slurs at Israeli passengers.

The barrage of insulting language was hurled at a number of people disembarking from a flight from Tel Aviv.

Footage shared online captures a woman storming through the arrivals lounge, pointing her finger at a long queue of passengers.

Children can be heard wailing in the background while the angry woman waggles her finger at staff members and those in the line.

The team at Stansted Airport has confirmed to the People’s Channel the event took place sometime last week.

The woman can be heard bellowing “Free Palestine” between a series of obscenities, later adding: “F**k off, bro, I work in this airport.”

Employees wearing hi-vis jackets could be seen directing the woman away from the queue forming opposite WH Smith.

A spokesman for the London travel hub said: “The airport is aware of the video circulating on social media and we are investigating the incident.”

A spokesman for Campaign Against Antisemitism told GB News: “This is appalling. Are people no longer free to travel without being accosted by so-called ‘activists’?

“Airport employees in London shouting ‘Free Palestine’ are doing nothing to bring peace to the Middle East.

“Being at the airport should never mean having to put up with these attention-seeking stunts designed to cause alarm.

“London Stansted Airport is right to launch an investigation and we will be paying close attention to the outcome.”

Back in March, a Ryanair employee triggered an internal investigation after donning a pro-Palestine badge while working at Stansted.

The budget airline said the member of staff breached company rules, which prohibit employees from showing political symbols while working.

Legal group UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) raised the complaint, which said that a passenger questioned the badge.

It alleged the employee called him “racist and disgusting” and threatened to cancel his ticket.

At the time, a Ryanair spokesman said: “It is not Ryanair policy for staff to wear badges, symbols or other items that might be considered political, divisive or potentially offensive to passengers or colleagues.

“We sincerely apologise for any offence or concern that may have arisen where this policy was not adhered to.”

UKLFI explained that items emblazoned with the slogan “Free Palestine” could impose a threatening environment for Jewish or Israeli people when going about their day-to-day lives.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the group said: “We appreciate Ryanair taking the issue seriously and reminding staff of its policy on political insignia.

“Public-facing staff should remain neutral to ensure that passengers from all backgrounds feel respected.”

Antisemitism in the UK has soared since the October 7 attacks took place in 2023, including a recent string of arson attacks against Jewish or Israeli-associated sites in the capital, including synagogues.

The Community Security Trust (CST) recorded 3,700 cases of anti-Jewish hate across the country over the course of last year, jumping four per cent from 2024.

But the records are yet to touch the figure recorded in 2023, when 4,298 cases of antisemitism were logged.

Swiss Pool Doubles Entry Fee for Foreigners After Ban Lifted

Illustration Medforth AI

A Swiss pool in Porrentruy now charges foreigners double the local rate after lifting last summer’s controversial ban that followed harassment incidents by visitors from France.

A public swimming pool in the Swiss municipality of Porrentruy has introduced a controversial two-tier pricing system following a ban on foreign visitors last summer that sparked national debate over public safety and integration.

According to Junge Freiheit, the outdoor pool in the canton of Jura has lifted its blanket exclusion of foreigners but now charges non-residents double the entrance fee that locals pay. Adults without residency in Porrentruy must pay 15 Swiss francs for admission, while residents pay just 7.50 francs. The same two-to-one pricing ratio applies to younger visitors, with non-residents charged ten francs compared to five francs for local youth.

The facility has also implemented strict new regulations for certain categories of visitors. Anyone who neither lives in Porrentruy nor holds a residence permit, work permit, or settlement authorization must purchase tickets exclusively online. Those without recognized tourist cards are required to present valid identification documents at entry. Visitors who fail to meet these requirements can be turned away.

The measures come in response to repeated disturbances during the summer of 2025, when groups of young men from neighboring France repeatedly visited the swimming pool and allegedly engaged in harassment of female visitors and assaults on security personnel. The incidents prompted pool operators to initially impose a complete entry ban on foreigners, a decision that generated headlines throughout Switzerland and beyond.

Porrentruy Mayor Philippe Eggertswyler defended the new pricing structure and access restrictions, stating that the goal was to ensure tranquility at the facility rather than to pit Swiss citizens against foreigners, as he told the Swiss publication 20 Minuten.

The Federal Commission against Racism in Switzerland previously criticized the original foreign visitor ban as problematic and troubling. The new differential pricing system, while less absolute than the outright exclusion, continues to draw scrutiny over questions of discrimination and whether such measures are legally permissible under Swiss anti-discrimination statutes.

The case highlights growing tensions in border communities across Europe where local populations increasingly demand protection from disorder linked to cross-border visitors, while national authorities and human rights bodies resist measures they view as discriminatory profiling.

Australia’s Albanese Gov Put Up ISIS Terrorists in 5-Star Hotels; the police source said they “got fed and we didn’t”

Australian Government, CC-BY-4.0

The Australian government made the decision to import ISIS people, described as ‘brides’ of ISIS terrorists, to Australia at the urging of some figures in our government with links to the Turkish Islamist regime. (I wrote about this insanity last year.)

And PM Anthony Albanese (above), who never met an Islamic terrorist he wouldn’t pander to, is giving them the best possible treatment.

Speaking on claims the ISIS-linked cohort were fed pizza, the police source said they “got fed and we didn’t”.

The terrorists always come first.

A federal government source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it was “ridiculous” the group received “VIP treatment” upon their arrival.

“It sets a precedent that you can willingly travel to a declared terrorist zone run by Islamic State and come back with a red carpet rolled out for you from a side exit,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the concerted bid to conceal which official or department was responsible for the “welcome mat’’ reception of the women has become so farcical, the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) even declined to answer questions about whether it paid for a pizza delivery to a hotel in Mascot for the group after their arrival on Tuesday evening.

DCJ workers had assisted the women and children upon landing with an almost three-hour health assessment, before they were whisked away in government cars to the hotel.

“Any access to government services is assessed in line with the same eligibility requirements that apply to other Australian citizens,” a DCJ spokeswoman said.

“NSW has well-established arrangements in place to manage any returnees, with community safety as the overriding priority.

Whose safety?

Finland: Singing About God at School Celebration Is ‘Discrimination’

GROK

Christians in Finland are having a hard time of it lately. On the heels of the Finnish Supreme Court convicting MP Päivi Räsänen of “hate speech” over a booklet on the biblical view on homosexuality, now the country is going after mentions of God in songs sung at school graduations.

The Finnish Discrimination and Equality Board has fined the city of Espoo for repeatedly discriminating against the same student by exposing him to Christian content in songs traditionally performed at Christmas and end-of-year celebrations in spring. The city was fined €10,000 and ordered to pay the student an additional €2,500 in compensation.

Parents of the student said in their complaint that they had not been informed ahead of time or given the opportunity to withdraw their student from the events.

“Varpusta jouluaamuna” (The Sparrow on Christmas Morning)—a song chosen and performed by another student—is not a hymn but includes the apparently offending phrase “God shall reward him who is a friend of the poor.” The first couple of verses of “Den blomstertid nu kommer” (The Flowering Season is Coming), Psalm 535 in the Hymnal of the Finnish Lutheran Church, which are the ones traditionally sung, include lyrics considering “the riches of God’s goodness” while beholding the beauty of nature in spring.

According to the student, he was discriminated against in grades 1–6 due to his religious beliefs for a full six years. The Discrimination and Equality Board—an independent authority appointed by the government—ruled that Espoo has neglected its obligation to promote equality.

School principals in Espoo have already sent messages to parents informing them that the traditional spring hymn, part of the end-of-year celebration in Finnish as well as Swedish schools for generations, will be part of this year’s celebrations as well.

Neither the discrimination board nor Finnish media clarified what particular religious belief the student embraced that found offensive the ideas of God rewarding friends of the poor or promoting gratitude to God for natural beauty.

Hundreds Arrested as Riots and Looting Break Out After Paris Saint-Germain Victory in Champions League Final

AI

Riots immediately erupted in the French capital following Paris Saint-Germain’s victory over London’s Arsenal Football Club in the Champions League Final on Saturday.

UPDATE 5/31 0145: Hundreds of arrests across France

According to updated figures from Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, at least 416 people have been arrested throughout France on Sunday, including 283 in Paris. At least seven police officers were injured during the rioting, including one seriously, Le Figaro reported.

In addition to clashes with police and setting fires, Minister Nuñez said that 15 cities across the country experienced looting, including multiple instances in cities such as Grenoble, Strasbourg, and Rennes.

Despite the chaos, the government minister said that plans to hold a victory celebration at the Champ de Mars on Sunday are still set to go ahead.

The original story continues as follows…

PSG won a historic second-straight European crown, defeating Arsenal by 4-3 on penalty kicks in the final in Budapest on Saturday. However, Les Parisians’ repeat victory appears set to trigger a repeat of last year’s unrest, which broke out after their win over Milan.

Police were seen attempting to pre-emptively disperse growing crowds at the Champs-Élysées and the Porte de Saint-Cloud, sparking initial skirmishes. Numerous fires were also set throughout the city, including near the Eiffel Tower.

At the time of this reporting, 45 people have been arrested, 89 fines have been issued, and hundreds of mortar explosive devices have been seized. At least one police officer has been injured, and a bakery and restaurant were vandalised in the 16th arrondissement, Le Figaro reports.

In preparation for another potential outburst of public disorder, French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez ordered 22,000 police officers and gendarmes to be ready for an operation on Saturday evening, including 8,000 in Paris, which is also hosting the Roland-Garros tennis tournament and three major concerts at the same time.

“This event could lead to large festive gatherings and may be marked by public order disturbances,” Nuñez said on Wednesday, noting the “significant episode of urban violence” following last year’s Champions League Finals.

“If there are any disturbances, interventions will be made—let there be no doubt about that,” the Interior Minister vowed.

The violence in 2025, which saw nearly 500 arrests in Paris, two people killed, over 190 injured, and hundreds of fires set across the country, was widely linked to France’s increasingly multicultural landscape, including Rassemblement National (RN) leader Jordan Bardella, who lamented that Paris had become a “playground for thugs” and that the image of France was being “tarnished in the world”.

Then-Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau condemned the “barbarians” who engaged in “savagery” following the PSG victory over Milan.

Commenting on the outbreak of violence on Saturday, former French Presidential Candidate Marine Le Pen remarked, “Only in France does the victory of a football club spark riots. Only in France does everyone feel compelled to lock themselves in their homes on a night of victory to avoid being confronted with violence.

“The French can no longer stand these scenes of chaos that multiply at the slightest pretext, and this, despite an extraordinary security apparatus.”
