The Grand Mosque of Paris announced on Wednesday, December 28th, that it has filed a legal complaintagainst the writer Michel Houellebecq (photo), following controversial remarks published by the sovereignist magazine Front Populaire, transcribed in the context of a dialogue with the philosopher Michel Onfray. The author is accused of inciting hatred against Muslims.
In a press release, the Grand Mosque condemned Houellebecq’s bitter accounting of the decline of the West as due to Muslim immigration. During the interview with Onfray, Houellebecq identified the Islamization of French society as the key event in this seemingly inevitable process. He asserts in particular that “the wish of the native French population” is not “that the Muslims assimilate, but that they stop robbing them and attacking them. Or else, another solution, that they leave.”
Houellebecq also worries about the rise in violence that can be observed throughout France, adopting the analyses of essayist Laurent Obertone, who also imagines, in a dystopia called Guerilla, a country soon sinking into chaos as the consequence of decades of uncontrolled immigration and cowardice on the part of the authorities.
Michel Houellebecq explains:
People are arming themselves. They are getting guns, taking classes at shooting ranges. And they are not hotheads … When entire territories are under Islamic control, I think that acts of resistance will take place. There will be attacks and shootings in mosques, in cafes frequented by Muslims, in short, Bataclan in reverse.
The Grand Mosque deems the remarks to be “staggeringly brutal,” although these kinds of attacks on Islam are frequently found in the writings of Houellebecq. In 2015, he published a dystopian novel entitled Submission(the literal translation of the word ‘Islam’) in which he imagined France electing a Muslim president as its leader in the 2022 presidential elections.
The Grand Mosque of Paris is a French mosque built in the capital after the First World War, in gratitude for the commitment of many Muslims in the French troops. Inaugurated in 1926, it is the oldest mosque built on mainland French soil. It is sustained mainly by Algeria, which finances about a third of its budget. Today, it plays an important role in representing Islam in France, and its rector—the title is inspired by Catholicism—is a religious authority whose opinion is often sought by the press and the political world.
The rector of the mosque, Chems-eddine Mohamed Hafiz, considers Houellebecq’s “pithy” sentences absolutely “unacceptable.” On Twitter, he added that these remarks “are not intended to enlighten any public debate but to fan the flames of discriminatory discourse and action.”
The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, assured the rector of “all her support,” but on social media, the debate rages. However, the essayist Anne-Sophie Chazaud has retorted to the Paris mosque that the temptation to judicialize critical remarks about Islam had a dangerous precedent, namely the massacre of the editorial staff of Charlie Hebdo in 2015.

The Paris mosque justifies its approach by citing the latest ruling by the European Court of Human Rights against Éric Zemmour. On Tuesday, December 20th, the Court upheld a hate speech conviction against Zemmour for claiming, in 2016, that his country was being invaded and colonised by Muslims. The polemicist had tried to challenge this conviction for the “provocation to religious hatred” as a violation of his freedom of expression, but failed.
Two individuals, a Frenchman and a Libyan, were arrested this morning as they were about to attempt an attack at Paris’ Montparnasse railway station, sources close to the incident told ‘Le Figaro’ newspaper.
Both individuals were arrested at around 07.45 this morning, after bursting into the station in possession of nine gas cylinders while shouting “let’s blow it all up”, according to these sources.
The two suspects, identified respectively as “Éric”, a 51-year-old Frenchman, and “Abdelwahed”, a 29-year-old Libyan, are already in police custody on charges of making “apology of terrorism”.
Police discovered in one of the bags they were carrying the nine cylinders, all filled with gas but ultimately “harmless” because “it was clear that neither of the two had any idea how to blow them up.”
The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, has in any case asked the Prefect of Police of Paris, Laurent Nunez, to give orders to immediately reinforce security at all stations in the French capital.
Pope Emeritus Benedict XIV, who died today at the age of 95, is remembered in the press for … well, resigning, being the first German pope in centuries, and overseeing the rectification of some of the worst Church sexual abuse scandals, which doesn’t say much about him.
For those who look a little closer, he is known for for opening up for Catholics the traditional style of the Latin Catholic mass, known as the Tridentine mass, which has brought in many converts. And of course, he was known for opposing the radical leftist ideas such as liberation theology running rampant through the Church. When Catholics have had a bellyful of Pope Francis and his nonsensical leftwingery on economics, global warming, capitalism, and other topics he knows nothing about, veering way out of his lane, we could often hear from parishioners who murmured that Pope Benedict was “our real pope.”
For me, though, Pope Benedict’s passing is sad, because he was a lovely man, and an intellectual giant of the faith.
I went to school at the Jesuit University of San Francisco during my undergraduate years in the 1980s. Following a guy I liked and always wanted to be around as such things go, I enrolled in the St. Ignatius Institute, where he was enrolled, a traditional Jesuit Catholic education program, which at the time, was run by the brilliant Father Joseph Fessio, S.J. Father Fessio had been a Ph.D. student under then-Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, and Ratzinger’s picture was prominently placed on the walls of all the offices. We loved that name, it was so sharp and vivid. Ratzinger was our spiritual leader, a prominent German bishop who (as I followed such things in an unsophisticated way) was best-friends with Pope John Paul II, before he eventually became Pope Benedict XIV. That certainly made him credible, and special, to us kids.
At the university, we would read his intellectual writings at times in the classical-Catholic education classes, and loved the traditionalist, no-apologies contact with the eternal values that do not change in them. We knew that he wrote with authority. Germany became the pilgrimage spot, to make some kind of contact with Cardinal Ratzinger’s milieu.
When he became pope, all of us on the alumni email lists were thrilled. Father Fessio, based on the interviews he gave in the press (because the press knew who the go-to person was on Ratzinger), was exuberant. I recall that Lucianne Goldberg gave him the splendid nickname “B-16” and said it was auspicious. The pope’s best friend was to become his successor.
He stayed as pope for eight years and a period of stability ensued.
Unfortunately, the Vatican was a rat’s nest of intrigue and scandal. The press was hounding the pope over supposed coverups of church sex scandals, which he couldn’t possibly have been involved in, it was such garbage. The idea of sex scandals must have been so foreign and horrible to him he could barely look at it. As a gentle intellectual and scholar, he couldn’t take it, he wasn’t a guy who relished political wars and battles, particularly with his health failing and the rat’s nest was whipping up a din. A practical German, he resigned in favor of someone more vigorous who could handle the battling bishops and incipient scandals. It was understandable. The dice was tossed for Francis, who became pope instead and it’s been lots of chaos since and very annoying at times. But Francis, nevertheless, hasn’t deviated on important matters of human life in Church doctrine, whether on abortion, gay marriage, or women priests. He had held the ship. While he is up against the rat’s nest, too, and the far-left German bishops are a particularly repellent problem, he is doing the best he can with what he is up against. Francis was to be the compromise among these factions, the dragon tamer, which hasn’t worked out perfectly, but as he has taken advice from Pope Emeritus Benedict XIV on Church doctrine, he has been good enough.
As for Benedict, it was clear he longed for a more contemplative life, not the rough and tumble and positively Jacobean intrigue of Vatican politics.
Cardinal Ratzinger, had so many wonderful qualities. He was an intellectual and a writer. His books are beautifully readable. He liked cats. As a teenager, he defied the Nazis and went full deserter on Hitler, significant points in his favor.
My favorite bit of doctrine that he has contributed is on Church music at mass — that it must always be “majestic.” That put the lid on guitar masses for a lot of us, and millions and millions owe him a debt of gratitude for that alone, though I am sure some are still going on. Which is O.K. for those who like that style, but the “majestic” call laid down a marker for which we can all be grateful.
He passes now, easily remembered for his books and his influence on countless students, but his other roles should not be dismissed, either — as a great pope, as the helpful best-friend and advisor to Pope John Paul II, whose influence is enormous, and as advisor to Pope Francis, to help keep him on the straight and narrow.
With a new decree, the Italian government is trying to control the activities of self-proclaimed sea rescuers in the Mediterranean. The Sea-Eye association is therefore calling on the German government to protect them. The decree will be ignored, they say.
The self-proclaimed sea rescuers of the Sea-Eye association have called on the German government to protect them from the Italian authorities during their activities in the Mediterranean. The government in Rome had previously passed a decree to control sea rescue off Italy’s coasts.
“We reject this so-called code of conduct and fear that this will lead to conflicts with the Italian authorities. We therefore expect the Federal Government to protect the sea rescue organizations flying the German flag from the illegal behavior of the Italian authorities and to give us decisive support in the event of a conflict,” stressed Sea-Eye board member Annika Fischer in a press release on Friday. Italy has no right to regulate the behavior of ships flying the German flag in international waters.
Sea-Watch also announces resistance
On Wednesday, the Italian government issued a decree that obliges self-proclaimed sea rescuers to head for a port immediately after salvaging shipwrecked people. “The provisions aim to ensure the safety of persons recovered at sea in accordance with national and international law,” the statement said.
The self-proclaimed sea rescuers of the Sea-Watch association also rejected the decree of the cabinet of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (Fratelli d’Italia). “The new Italian government decree is an invitation to drown. Forcing ships into port violates the duty to rescue other people in distress,” said Sea Watch spokesman Oliver Kulikowski. He also announced that the decree would be opposed.
After taking office, the Italian government began tightening controls on refugee organizations operating in the Mediterranean. Since then, there have been repeated disputes with the German government and the EU.
Italy drastically restricts rescue operations
Under Prime Minister Meloni’s government, Italy has taken a hard line on NGOs rescuing migrants. The new decree now prescribes further rules for civil sea rescuers. These are intended to limit the rescue operations.
It makes it more difficult for rescue ships to land in southern Italy. The cabinet clearly wants to limit systematic rescue operations by NGO ships that bring migrants to Italy. According to media reports, rescued refugees should submit their asylum application on board the rescue ships, which should be accepted by the ship’s flag state.
NGO ships that carry out rescue operations must “meet the requirements of technical and nautical suitability for safe navigation,” according to the immigration decree, Italian media outlets reported.
According to another provision of the decree, in the event of an operation in international waters, the rescuers must request a port that the ship must call at immediately after the rescue, without staying at sea for days waiting for other possible rescues, according to government sources in Rome.
NGOs that do not follow the rules are to be fined 50 000 euros. The penalty will be imposed on the ship’s captain and the shipowner. The confiscation of the ship is also threatened.
Criticism of the Bishops’ Conference

Morawiecki pointed out that Europe must choose between real solidarity among European states or the model of the superstate, in which decisions are made without regard for the smaller members in the largest capitals.
The new Italian head of government from the right-wing Fratelli d’Italia (FdI) recently let it be known that she wanted her country to follow the government policies of Poland and the Czech Republic.
New realism in Sweden
As a result of the conservative takeover of government in Sweden, a sense of reality is now evident in Stockholm. In his first Christmas address, new Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson painted a bleak picture of his country’s situation. “Sweden is in a very serious situation,” said Kristersson.
The head of government referred to the global climate crisis, but also to the three parallel crises that he believes are threatening the country: the internal security crisis with deadly immigrant gang violence, the external security crisis with the “Russian aggression against Ukraine” and the energy crisis in Europe.
A particular challenge, however, is internal violence, said Kristersson – no other EU country has a problem remotely as serious as Sweden; the country is largely perceived abroad as peaceful. From the beginning of the year to mid-December there were 378 gun attacks in Sweden, killing 60 and injuring 104. In Denmark and Norway, on the other hand, there were only four deaths each and in Finland two.
Since October, Sweden has been governed by a bourgeois-conservative minority government made up of the Moderate Party, Christian Democrats and Liberals, which is tolerated by the right-wing Sweden Democrats.
Arrested in Niger after smuggling 22 000 migrants to Europe
It is a big catch. The head of an illegal immigration network was arrested on 20 December in Niger with the help of French police, France Info reported on Friday 30 December. According to information from the Directorate for International Security Cooperation (DCIS) transmitted to the public radio station, during his police custody, the 29-year-old individual admitted to illegally smuggling 22 000 migrants, at a rate of 60 per week for seven years, between Niger and European countries, including France, but also Italy and Spain.
The arrest of this network leader, of Libyan nationality, was carried out after several months of joint investigation by French, Spanish and Nigerian police officers, and coordinated by the Directorate for International Security Cooperation. The individual was detained in Niamey, the capital of Niger.
His mobile phone was seized and other arrests of “accomplices could take place in the coming weeks,” the DCIS told French outlet CNews. Most of them came from Nigeria or Cameroon, these migrants had to pay between 1 500 and 2 000 euros to make the crossing. Reports indicating that COVID-19 cases are surging in China are causing concern that a potentially deadly new virus variant could emerge, even as genetic sequencing to detect and catch such a threat is dwindling. Unfortunately, the rest of the world is relatively blind to what exactly is taking place in China because its government is no longer releasing detailed Covid data. But the apparent spread has medical experts and political leaders in the U.S. and elsewhere worried about the possibility that yet another round of the disease could be on its way, due to the mutating virus.
Among them is Daniel Lucey, a fellow at the Infectious Diseases Society of America and professor at Dartmouth University’s Geisel School of Medicine. Lucey stated:
There will certainly be more omicron sub variants developing in China in the coming days, weeks and months, but what the world must anticipate in order to recognize it early and take rapid action is a completely new variant of concern. It could be more contagious, more deadly, or evade drugs, vaccines and detection from existing diagnostics.
He added that the world must prepare for such an eventuality so that vaccines, treatments and other necessary measures can be ready. (Yes, the vaccines have worked so well thus far. As have the other “necessary” measures.)
China seems to spit out heinous viruses like a Pez-dispenser distributes candy. It would be nice if the U.S. stopped funding their efforts.
Ironically and sadly, the truth is that many of our progressive rulers seem to be longing for the “good ol’ days” of coronavirus lockdowns, social distancing, and dramatically reduced human activity. And unchallenged control of their constituents. Some, such as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, have openly lauded the Chinese government. Antifa and BLM members surely wax nostalgic for the heady days of the 2020 riots. And many Gen Z’ers, current and aspiring Marxists, and garden-variety lazy slugs similarly long for the time when there was a built-in, airtight excuse for not working.

Another case of Love Jihad has come to the fore from the capital city of India. The Delhi Police have registered a complaint against a Muslim person named Mohammad Imran for issuing death threats to a Hindu woman and raping her several times since 2021. The accused also forced the woman to wear a burqa and send pictures of her wearing the same. Imran is a resident of Meerut. He works in R System, an IT company located in Sector 59 of Noida.
According to the report, the Police are said to have registered the FIR on November 29. However, the woman confirmed that the accused had not yet been arrested by the Police. The woman in the complaint mentioned that she met the accused at the coaching centre in Noida 11 years ago and had been friends with him since then.
The saga began when the victim woman got married to a Hindu man named Abhishek in the year 2018. However, the accused who had continued to be friends with the woman even after her marriage engaged her into a love affair after Abhishek, her husband shifted to Bihar for his job. “We were friends. After Abhishek went to Bihar, Imran started suggesting I divorce my husband. He wanted me to marry him instead. Later he issued death threats to me saying that he would murder me if I failed to divorce Abhishek and marry him instead,” the woman said in the complaint.
As per the complaint further, the accused barged into the house of the victim woman in the Chhatarpur area of Delhi and raped her. He assured her that he would marry her as she cried and restrained him from continuing with the assault. The woman said that the accused stayed at the victim’s house for 4 days and continued to rape her.
The woman added that she filed for divorce from her husband in September 2021 in Delhi’s Saket court due to the pressure and fear of Mohammad Imran. During this, Imran kept calling the victim to meet him in the Qutub Minar area. In December 2021, the victim changed her house from Chhatarpur in Delhi to her own house in the Palam Vihar area. Imran discovered this location too. He again barged into her new home and raped her several times in 2021.
It has been further mentioned in the complaint that as the divorce between the victim woman and her husband got confirmed, Imran blocked her. Since then Imran did not meet her. According to the victim, Imran is a resident of Meerut. He works in R System, an IT company located in Sector 59 of Noida. It is alleged that even after the FIR was registered, the company has not fired him and he continues to work there.
Talking to OpIndia, the victim said that she had to face a lot of problems initially to register an FIR at the Police station. She said that the police made her visit a lot in different police stations for the complaint. “It’s almost been a month since the case has been registered but no action has been taken against Imran. He often asked me to send my photographs wearing a burqa. Earlier I did not believe in the Hindu-Muslim divide, but now I feel that a particular gang is targeting Hindu girls,” the victim woman said.
OpIndia also obtained the victim’s WhatsApp conversations with Imran. Imran in the chats is seen assuring the woman to take her to Banglore after her sister’s wedding. He could also be seen prohibiting the victim from sharing anything about their relationship on social media or with any other person.
The police have registered a case against the accused under sections 376 (2) and 506 of the IPC. The accused is absconding at present. FIR copy is available with OpIndia.
Vanita Sharma — mother of the late actress Tunisha — said for the first time that her daughter was under pressure to convert to Islam. Speaking to the media, she said that Tunisha was constantly harassed in different ways by her ex-boyfriend Sheezan Khan — currently in custody — and his family, and she was forced to do many things against her wishes and was allegedly under duress to embrace Islam.
“They had an undue influence on our innocent, sensitive girl. She had even started addressing Sheezan’s mother as ‘Ammi’, his sister used to take her to a ‘dargah’ and celebrate her birthday,” said Vanita.
She said that Sheezan, Tunisha’s co-star in the Sony SAB TV serial ‘Ali Baba: Dastaan-e-Kabul’, was allegedly forcing her to accept Islam religion, and she had reportedly started sporting a burqa.
Vanita slammed the Khan family for compelling Tunisha to spend long hours or days at their home, ostensibly against her will, decorating their home for her birthday party, and she bought expensive gifts for them.
The distraught bereaved mother called upon the Palghar Police to rope in the Khan family for their investigations and at one point even voiced suspicions that Tunisha’s death could be a murder.
Recalling the sequence of events, Vanita said Tunisha wanted to go to celebrate Christmas in Chandigarh for a couple of days to get a change. “A day before (December 23), I had dropped in on the teleserial sets unannounced, but she was very busy… Yet she told me to speak with Sheezan. I met him, but he just said he was ‘sorry’ and told me I could do whatever I want,” said Vanita.
The Sharma family has also raised doubts at the purported delay of nearly 30 minutes to rush Tunisha to the hospital where she was declared dead on December 24, and are troubled as to “what happened in just a few hours” after she reached the shooting venue.
Tunisha, 20, committed suicide on December 24 on the sets of a teleserial being shot at a location in Vasai, and a day later, her co-star Sheezan was arrested after her mother accused him of cheating, two-timing, betrayal, using her for 3-4 months and other things in a video-statement.
The Sharma family reiterated that they want justice for Tunisha who had no major illness barring OCD, and rejected the claims of the Khans that she was suffering from depression.
“If she was in depression, she could not have worked for long hours at shoots, memorising lengthy dialogues,” Vanita pointed out. Once, when Tunisha had checked Sheezan’s mobile he became furious and slapped her and then announced he was breaking off with her.
“Knowing that our religion is different from theirs, seeing the huge age difference (around 8 years), why did they involve her so deeply, what are the reasons… Why did his mother speak long hours with her about Sheezan’s ex-girlfriend which Tunisha said she did not like,” demanded Tanisha.
She urged that Sheezan should not be spared and must be punished to ensure justice to Tunisha as she was cheated at every step.
Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut has also stated that Tunisha was pushed to end her life. Writing on social media, Kangana posted: “A woman can cope with everything, loss of love, marriage, relationship or even a loved one but she can never deal with the fact that her love story never had love, for the other person, her love and vulnerability was just an easy target for exploitation, her reality was not the same as the other person who was in it only to use and abuse her physically and emotionally.
“When it is revealed to her, her reality starts to warp and distort itself, shift shape to fit in the facts that are revealed to her in a shocking manner. Every incidence, each experience she associates with beauty and love starts to replay in her mind, slowly blending dream, reality, imagination, all in order to fit in the brutality of a betrayal.
“She can’t trust her own perception and in such a state one feels no difference in being alive or dead, after all life is just our perception and if she decides to end her life… Please know she didn’t do it alone… it’s a murder.
“Indulging in polygamy with multiple women without their consent or knowledge should be a criminal offence. S*xually exploiting women without taking any responsibility for their physical, mental, and emotional well-being while breaking up with them suddenly without any valid reason should also be a criminal offence.”
Actress Payal Rohatgi has also insisted on proper investigation of the case and if Tunisha had control over her finances.
Current media frenzy notwithstanding, Tunisha’s untimely death promises to become yet another case of a Hindu girl destroying her life due to proximity, forced or otherwise, with a Muslim man. Unless Hindus understand the true nature of Islam – and the way Muslims, including well-to-do middle/upper-middle class sections of society, are indoctrinated since birth to consider Islam as the perfect religion and Hindus as spiritually deficient ‘idol worshippers’ condemned to eternal hellfire – they will continue being susceptible to the ‘all religions are the same’ brainwashing modern Hindus grow up with.
Hindus need to make Dharma the center-point of their lives. We need to understand the core teachings of our Dharma and how those stand in stark difference to the exclusivist beliefs of Abrahamic religions. Only those communities who can respect our Dharma deserve our respect. Unless we teach these basics to our children and give them the intellectual tools to safeguard themselves, we will continue to fail as parents and as a community.
When the norms are falling apart, the future lies with the extremes. To know what’s going to be normalized, look to what words, ideas and memes are being spread through the fringes.
It seems inconceivable pedophilia could be normalized, but show Admiral Rachel Levine to anyone in 1992 or even 2002 and gauge their reaction. For that matter even our 2012 selves would think it was an SNL skit.

Police Scotland has used the term “minor-attracted people” to describe paedophiles in a major report despite warnings it normalises child abuse.
The Left begins its attack by changing language. The push to use “minor-attracted people” has been slowly gathering steam while the people bringing attention to it, like Chaya Raychik or Libs of TikTok are treated like domestic terrorists for noticing what’s going on and the implications of it.
Chief Constable Iain Livingstone’s annual assessment of the force’s performance made reference to it working in a European project targeted at Minor-Attracted People (MAPs).
The report said the Horizon Europe Project was aimed at “providing them with the necessary support, treatment and guidance to help prevent criminal activities”.
Police Scotland emphasised it opposed describing paedophiles as MAPs and insisted the term had only been included in the report as it was used by the project’s commissioning documents.
But the report was published amid wider concerns by campaigners over what they see as attempts to rebrand paedophilia as a harmless sexual preference.
Why are we even talking about Scotland? The leftist ruling SNP has embraced Islamists and assorted perversions. Current boss Nicola Sturgeon is moving aggressively on transgender self-ID with pushback from many women, including J.K. Rowling and even the UK.
Nicola Sturgeon’s overhaul of transgender laws faces being vetoed after ministers said they were willing to use never-used-before powers to block it from receiving Royal Assent.
The Government has previously urged Nicola Sturgeon to scrap her controversial legislation which will see people as young as 16 allowed to change their legal gender simply by signing a declaration.
MSPs opposed to the law, which was passed by 86 votes to 39 at Holyrood, branded it “Nicola Sturgeon’s gender self-ID experiment” and warned that male predators would inevitably change their sex to prey on vulnerable women and girls.

Germany’s Green party is to launch an investigation into its active promotion in the 80s of paedophile groups who lobbied for the legalisation of sex with children.
The party’s leadership has said it will commission an independent researcher to investigate “for how long and to what extent” such groups had an influence. The party’s chief whip, Jürgen Trittin, said the initiative aimed to take a close look at the “totally unacceptable demand” in the 80s that sex with children should be made legal. The money is believed to be in a Bladex bank in Panama. It is said to have flowed in several tranches, including to Eva Kaili’s parents.
However, the financial institution denies being involved in the Qatargate scandal. “In the interest of transparency and the accountability that characterizes our bank, we would like to inform the public that our institution has been misrepresented as the custodian of funds of certain individuals who are the subject of investigations into a corruption case,” the bank said.
Kaili’s lawyers also say that these transfers are a “myth” but it is questionable as to whether the Greek authorities took action because of a myth.
The Greek politician had been serving as a member of the European Parliament (MEP) since 2014 and as one of fourteen vice presidents of the European Parliament from January 2022 until she was arrested and charged with corruption in December 2022.
Kaili’s arrest was the most striking action during the Qatargate operations that caused a seismic uproar in European Union politics, because she enjoyed parliamentary immunity as a sitting vice president of the EP. Belgian authorities justified it as a case of her being caught in flagrante delicto.
Kaili’s lawyers claim that the lengthy interrogation that immediately followed her arrest was conducted while Kaili was in a state of extreme shock, fear and confusion and led her to testify some things under stress, duress and mistreatment.
Tate and his brother were arrested from their residence in Romania
Andrew Tate, a controversial digital media influencer, is said to have been jailed in Romania as part of a human trafficking and rape investigation. Tate’s residence in Bucharest, where he was held alongside his brother Tristan, was raided by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT). The brothers’ imprisonment was verified by their lawyer on Friday.
Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) issued a statement and said that four suspects, two British citizens, and two Romanian citizens were suspected of being part of a criminal group focused on human trafficking. “The four suspects … appear to have created an organized crime group with the purpose of recruiting, housing, and exploiting women by forcing them to create pornographic content meant to be seen on specialized websites for a cost,” the prosecutor said.

According to the reports, the brothers, along with two Romanian nationals, have been under scrutiny since April. The video of their arrest was extensively shared on social media in which Tate and his brother could be seen being escorted away from a luxurious villa in Bucharest. The police also recovered guns, knives, and money from the detained suspects, as per reports.
Tate is a four-time World kickboxing champion and is ‘well known’ for his misogynistic way of thinking. The former kickboxer rose to prominence in 2016 after being booted from the British TV show Big Brother due to a video that showed him assaulting a lady. He later became notorious online after Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok banned him for saying that women should ‘bear responsibility’ for being sexually assaulted. TikTok spokesperson while banning Tate from the platform in August this year remarked that ‘misogyny is a hateful ideology that is not tolerated.’ However, his account on Twitter was later reinstated in November 2022.

Notably, the British American ‘influencer’ is also said to have converted his religion to Islam in October this year. The former kickboxer, who was born in Chicago and raised in Luton, previously hailed Islam as “the last true religion in the world,” and he later verified that he had become a Muslim after a video of him praying in a mosque went viral.

Several social media accounts and media reports claim that the box of Pizza displayed in Tate’s video helped authorities in ascertaining that he was in Romania which certainly led to his arrest.

He has posted several videos online in which he talks about abusing women, choking them, trashing their belongings, and stopping them from going out. He was banned by Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter after he stated that rape victims must ‘bear responsibility’ for their attack. Reports mention that he used to date women aged 18 or 19 because they must have been sexually naive, as opposed to older women who he said ‘must have been involved with dozens of men’.
Several domestic violence groups have earlier characterized Tate’s beliefs as severe misogyny capable of radicalizing men and boys to perpetrate damage offline. However, Tate was one of the most well-known people on TikTok, where his videos have been seen 11.6 billion times before August when the platform imposed a ban on his account.
