They called on the social media channel TikTok to “re-enact” the massive race riots in Paris suburbs, they attacked and injured police officers, frightened the inhabitants of the inner cities of Linz and Salzburg – and they still yelled “Allahu Akbar” (” Allah is great”), the Islamists’ battle cry: The dramatic pictures of the riots of the violent 200 to 300 migrants from Syria and Afghanistan caused a shock among the Austrian population, eXXpress reported.
“There is an abuse of the right to hospitality” or “Soon they will also set fire to our houses” and “No more tolerance should be shown here” were posted by concerned citizens in the comment forums, while the well-known Austrian asylum lobby was conspicuous by its notable silence. Only Michael Landau, the chairman of Caritas, at least shared an article about the migrant riots on Twitter, albeit without comment.
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner ( Austrian People’s Party) said that the Syrians and Afghans involved in the riots would lose their asylum status and be deported. And: “Last night’s crimes are an expression of a profoundly anti-democratic attitude towards our constitutional values and attitudes,” the Minister of the Interior condemned Monday night’s riots. He instructed provincial police commander Andreas Pilsl and the Linz city police commander to hold a security summit with the mayor. However, many Austrians no longer believe these announcements of deportations.
