A court in the Polish city of Szczecin sentenced ruling party MP Stanisław Gawłowski to five years in prison for engaging in bribing public officials. 

Gawkowski was a senator from the Civic Coalition (KO) party led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. He was tried concerning irregularities in 26 investment projects overseen by the West Pomeranian Board of Drainage and Water Facilities in Szczecin, which began in January 2020 and ended with his sentencing on July 31. 

The investigation that led to the trial began in 2013 and produced indictments of 32 individuals, eight of whom pleaded guilty.

The prosecutors presented 94 indictments against the accused, which included bribery and money laundering. 

The central issue of the investigation concerned the alleged rigging of tenders for drainage works, which were co-financed by multimillion-euro European Union subsidies.

Gawłowski, a senior figure in Tusk’s KO, served as deputy environment minister from 2007 to 2015 before serving as the party’s secretary general between 2016 and 2018.

He was indicted on seven counts, including five related to corruption. 

The prosecution asked the court to sentence him to 6.5 years in prison and to fine him €40,000. 

The court found Gawkowski guilty and gave him a five-year prison term, a €40,000 fine and debarred him from holding public office for a period of 10 years. 

The politician was said to be likely to appeal the court’s verdict. Should he lose his appeal he could take the matter to the Supreme Court, asking for the verdict to be annulled.

If he lost these appeals he could still request a presidential pardon but, since the presidency will for the next five years be held by the opposition Conservatives (PiS)-aligned Karol Nawrocki, his chances were said to be doubtful. 

The court’s verdict in the Gawłowski case marks a setback and embarrassment for the Tusk government, which has alleged that it was PiS officials who, in the lifetime of the PiS government (2015-2023), indulged in corruption and fraud. 

Public prosecutors have issued a whole raft of indictments against former PiS government officials, none of which has yet come to court.  

Gawłowski was not the only KO official to have been indicted under the previous PiS government.

In the most prominent case to date, Sławomir Nowak, a former transport minister and close ally of Tusk, is facing alleged corruption charges relating to his time in Ukraine when he managed that country’s motorway building programme.

Social media users are this week cheering on reports that a mother imprisoned for a post on X will soon be “freed.” Their celebrations seem premature.

Lucy Connolly was jailed for 31 months after authorities treated her post on the day of the horrific Southport knife attack—calling for “mass deportation now” and saying: “Set fire to all the f*****g [migrant] hotels full of the b******s for all I care”—as incitement. That’s despite the fact Connolly deleted the message less than four hours after pressing ‘send’ and stressed the next day that “violence is not the answer.”

Pointing to her upcoming release, The Mirror claimed on Thursday that Britain’s Court of Appeal has now “ruled Lucy Connolly, 41, had not intended the post to incite violence.” This is not at all clear from the Court’s website. Its most recent document on Connolly—as of midday on July 31st—is a rejected appeal from two months ago saying her sentence was not “manifestly excessive.”

Other papers have highlighted an X post by a friend of Connolly claiming she will be with “her family AT HOME” next month.

It appears this is actually a scheduled release (set for August 21st), not related to any recent (and potentially imagined) Court of Appeal ruling. According to The London Standard, Connolly will be released on licence after serving 40% of her term in jail, meaning her return home is subject to conditions before the sentence term comes to an end. That’s hardly the definition of “free.”

Telegraph journalist Allison Pearson—who has herself suffered at the hands of Conservative and Labour government devised ‘hate speech’ laws—also pointed to “understandable concern as to what tricks the Home Office may play to prevent ‘Starmer’s political prisoner’ from telling her story.”

It is worth noting too that British police are establishing new “elite squads” to monitor anti-migrant posts on social media.

So ignore the hype—the gagging continues.

A mother-of-six remains in an induced coma in Belgium nearly a month after her violent husband, a Kosovar Muslim, set her on fire in front of their children after he had been freed from prison months early due to overcrowding.

The family of Dula K., a 41-year-old woman now fighting for her life in a burn center, has told Belgian media that she has been a victim of “failed policies” after her husband, Mirsad H., was granted Extended Pentitentiary Leave (VPV), in April 2025 as part of an emergency measure implemented by former Justice Minister Paul Van Tigchelt to address saturation in the Belgian prison system.

Mirsad H., who boasts a considerable rap sheet including illegal possession of a weapon and receiving stolen goods, had been serving a lengthy 37-month prison sentence for domestic violence against Dula.

On July 3, weeks after his release, he is accused of savagely attacking his wife at the family home in Houthalen-Helchteren. Police had been called after one of the children reported that Mirsad had become violent again. Officers separated the couple to assess the situation. When they realized Mirsad had violated the terms of his probation, they summoned a second patrol to arrest him. But Mirsad escaped before reinforcements arrived. He returned just hours later, stormed into the house, and doused Dula in gasoline and set her alight in front of five of their children. She suffered severe burns over her entire body and is now in a medically induced coma, completely wrapped up in protective bandages. Her survival chances are described by doctors as extremely slim.

“He set her on fire in front of the children,” Dula’s brother Serdzo told HBVL, speaking for the first time about the attack. “We are terrified, even though he is back in prison.” The family, originally from Kosovo, has lived in Limburg for decades. They now see Dula not only as a victim of a horrific crime but as a symbol of a justice system that failed her repeatedly.

The attack was caught on video. According to the family’s lawyer, Bert Vanmechelen, one of the children tried to extinguish the flames in the bathroom. “One of them had to put out his own mother,” Vanmechelen said. “That kind of trauma never leaves a child.” Dula, her body severely burned from head to toe, was rushed to the Leuven burn center, where she remains in critical condition.

Mirsad was captured later that evening during a large-scale police operation after being found hiding in an abandoned building. He had injured himself falling from a roof. He is now facing charges of attempted murder and is expected to be tried before the Assize Court.

Despite his record and propensity for violence against his wife, Mirsad was granted conditional release by the Hasselt prison administration. Current Justice Minister Annelies Verlinden has since called the measure illegal and vowed to end it.

While local police chief Geert Verheyen insisted that officers “handled the intervention very well and professionally,” Vanmechelen rejected that claim. “Don’t tell me everything went right when a mother ends up in a coma, burned alive in front of her children, by a man who should have still been behind bars,” he said. “This is the failure of an entire system.”

Serdzo is now caring for his sister’s children, but revealed the emotional toll the attack has put on the whole family. “We talk as little as possible about what happened,” he said. “But how can you ever erase the image of your father setting your mother on fire?”

Yasemin Acar (38) celebrates her conviction for attacks on the police as a victory – with cheering supporters. After all, she was acquitted for chanting the extermination slogan of the terrorist organization Hamas in Tiergarten district court.

The Kreuzberg woman poses for photos in the dock. She doesn’t want to be pixelated, they say. Damsel of the castle hairstyle, skin-tight shirt, kufiya (Palestinian scarf), Fatima hand chain. German. Single. Bachelor’s degree in philosophy. Used to be a project manager. Currently not working, no income. No criminal record. A sailing trip to Gaza with Greta Thunberg and other “professional activists” recently failed.

Acar first came to public attention in March 2022, when she looked after war refugees from Ukraine at the Berlin bus station and gave interviews. After the Hamas attack on Israel, her social media account changed: Acar defended the Islamists, became increasingly radicalized and most recently called Germany a “fascist state”. Since then, she has hardly ever missed a hate demonstration against Israel in Berlin and has taken part in occupations at universities.
From February 17 to July 24, 2024, Acar is said to have publicly chanted “From the river to the sea, palestine will be free” several times. The inflammatory slogan is considered a characteristic of one of the parties or associations specified in Section 86 (2) StGB: the terrorist organization Hamas, which is banned by the Ministry of the Interior. In addition, defamation, resistance, attack on police officers, attempted bodily harm (throwing an umbrella).

Yasemin Acar reads out her “confession”. Allegedly humiliated and discriminated against at school (“forced to eat pork, humiliated by 7-year-old German children”). There is talk of “structural racism” and “defamation as a Jew-hater”. She was celebrated for helping Ukraine and “criminalized” for Gaza. The German police are acting “like an occupying power”. They only say “what must not be said in this country!”

Cheers from 20 supporters in the courtroom (100 make noise in the street). The judge reads out police statements (15 volumes of files). She hands over X-ray images. These are supposed to prove her injuries at the hands of the Berlin police: “These are my ribs!”

Acar’s lawyer says the slogan accused of incitement to hatred is not a Hamas slogan, but “a historical description”.
“The slogan contains the violent will to destroy the state of Israel,” insists public prosecutor Darrell Kanngießer. Its dissemination is punishable, regardless of political views. He wants 220 daily sentences of 20 euros each as punishment.
Her lawyer demands acquittal for “circumscribing a geographical area”. Speaks of “massacres by the Israeli army”, “crimes against humanity”.

120 daily sentences of 15 euros each, i.e. 1800 euros fine for resisting and assaulting police officers, defamation, attempted bodily harm – but acquittal for the Hamas slogans! Judge Philipp Berkholz: “Most of them are not there at the demonstrations to support Hamas – I therefore do not consider this to be a criminal offense.”

Then the judge reveals: “I have the greatest respect for your commitment. You probably share some people’s feelings. You keep to what you have committed yourself to. Try not to be a source of offense in the future.”

Frenetic cheers, roaring applause. First in the courtroom, then on the street …

A judge who expresses his respect for a radical who, among other things, celebrated the Iranian missile attack on Israel by dancing, insulted German police officers countless times and sailed to Gaza with self-confessed terror supporters?

The newspaper B.Z. confronted the court with the statements. A spokeswoman confirmed that the judge had expressed his respect for Acar and referred to the “context”. Berkholz had meant Acar’s commitment to the people in Gaza, with the criminal acts she had destroyed her image.

A London-born radical Islamic preacher who praised deceased Hezbollah figures is organising a fitness and religious education programme in the Peak District this week.

Sayed Hussein Makke previously grieved for associates of the Lebanese organisation, including a British national who perished whilst serving with Hezbollah and Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

The Australian government cancelled his entry permit earlier this year following reports that he had described Hassan Nasrallah, the Hezbollah chief eliminated in an Israeli bombing operation in 2024, as among the globe’s “greatest freedom fighters”.

Reports suggest Makke participated in Nasrallah’s memorial service and viewed the large attendance as proof the “resistance” remained “alive and well”.

The five-day programme, called the Spiritual Warrior Project, runs from today until August 3 at Darwin Lake in the Peak District.

Activities combine “Olympic-level wrestling” with Islamic teachings delivered by religious instructors.

Marketing materials emphasise “God-centric masculinity” and “man psychology”, whilst potential participants face questions about their commitment to “discipline” and “brotherhood”.

The camp’s promotional content states: “Brotherhood is to trust your comrades to know that you and your mission go further together than you could ever do by yourself. Spiritual Warriors live, eat and breathe brotherhood.”

Britain classified Hezbollah’s armed branch as a terrorist entity in 2008, extending the prohibition to include its political operations in 2019.

Religious instructor Sheikh Salman Zaarour features amongst the event’s speakers, having previously led sessions where he stood beside a bonfire after dark, encouraging participants to contemplate their futures.

A social media account belonging to Jafar Hammoud displayed an image of Zaarour alongside theological students in Lebanon on 7 October 2024, marking 12 months since Hamas’s assault on Israel.

The accompanying text read “war nights” and declared that “victory is near”.

Beyond the camp, Makke provides individual coaching through his “One-on-One King Programme”, which examines “the masculine archetypes king, warrior, magician, lover” whilst addressing personal limitations and developing capabilities.

The preacher additionally markets oil-derived merchandise, featuring tablets designed to enhance sexual desire for those pursuing the “spiritual warrior path”.

Makke’s legal representatives maintain he holds no membership in banned groups and has never assisted any outlawed organisation.

Through a legal firm, Makke responded to press coverage by alleging that reporting about the Spiritual Warrior Project constituted an “attempt to stir up hatred against our camp attendees”.

The cleric continues promoting his Peak District programme despite controversy surrounding his connections to individuals affiliated with Hezbollah.

His representatives have not addressed specific claims about his statements regarding Nasrallah or his attendance at the Hezbollah leader’s funeral proceedings.

A highly respected retired German priest recently announced his dissociation from the Diocese of Fulda in an open letter to Vicar General Dr. Martin Stanke, over its support for blessing same-sex “couples” and an upcoming LGBT “pride” parade.

In the July 26 open letter, Father Winfried Abel emphasized that he can no longer in good conscience remain affiliated with a diocese that encourages priests to “bless” homosexual “couples,” and recently offered a greeting for the “Christopher Street Day” “pride” parade that he stresses makes the diocese indistinguishable from secular society, per Katholische.net. In recent years, the German bishops have become notorious for their heterodox “Synodal Way,” which has approved same-sex “blessings.”

The diocese is promoting the original sin of ‘Pride’

The 86-year-old priest first highlighted Martin’s greeting for the “Christopher Street Day,” an annual German gay “pride” parade that stressed the Church’s past “exclusion” of those who identify as “queer” but omitted any mention of Catholic teaching on homosexuality.

“So-called ‘pride parades’ are symptoms of a morally unleashed society that has exceeded the limits of decency and morality – they are a colorful performance of perversions, the glorification of tasteless obscenities and a spectacle of lost feeling of shame,” Abel wrote.

The priest then reminded the vicar general that “pride” was the original sin of man, and that man’s exit from Paradise was in fact the first “pride parade.”

“Pride” stands at the beginning of human history as the trigger of the primordial catastrophe, which we call the fall, because man stood in pride and presumption against God and (denounced) friendship with God. The first ‘Pride Parade’ was known to be the exodus of man from paradise.

German bishops no longer know the difference between the ‘blessed’ and ‘cursed’

Turning to same-sex “blessings,” Abel slammed the country’s bishops for publishing guidelines for “blessings” of same-sex, divorced and “remarried,” and other irregular unions just days after the passing of Pope Francis.

“Exactly two days after the passing of Pope Francis, ZDK recognized the vacancy as an auspicious time to publish the ‘hand of chaplains with blessings for couples who love themselves,’” the priest wrote.

“I am really deeply shocked by the fact that ‘my’ Catholic Church in this country, which I have served for 61 years, has become so sophisticated that even our bishops no longer know the difference between sexual, erotic, friendly and divine love,” he added.

Germany’s heterodox “Synodal Way” decided to allow and implement same-sex “blessings” in 2023. Later that year, Pope Francis’ controversial 2023 document, Fiducia Supplicans, which allowed the “blessings” of homosexual “couples” under certain conditions, offered much support to the heretical course of the German “Synodal Church.”

Indeed, the German Bishops’ guidelines cite Fiducia Supplicans to justify their heretical cause.

Abel, noting that his country’s bishops no longer seem to be capable of making a distinction between blessing and curse, reminds the vicar general that at the end of time Our Lord will separate the blessed from the cursed, which would include same-sex “couples” who do not repent of their sins and amend their lives.

The first group includes the Blessed Ones: ‘Come, you blessed of my father…!’ (Mt.25,34). The second group includes the cursed, whose life plan God confirms, – but not “valued” or “blessed”! Those who have chosen their own way, go to damnation. Anyone who understands something about the discernment of the spirits will immediately recognize that the “handout” of the bishops does not contain blessing but a curse.

Germany’s prelates MUST refuse to bless ‘same-sex’ couples

The priest then emphasized that the Church’s prelates have a duty to refuse to bless LGBT “couples,” who appear to have no intention of amending their lives, but unfortunately, by going along with Fiducia Supplicans and the German “Synodal Way,” are interpreting Scripture according to their own liberal ideologies.

(I)f a homosexual couple requests (a) blessing from the Church in order to be confirmed in his lifestyle, then the Church must refuse this blessing! In the end, no one takes any church that indicates the spirit of the times seriously. Anyone who refers to “Fiducia Supplicans” here or claims that the Bible does not contain any admonishing words on the subject of ‘homosexuality,’ interpret the Word of God ideologically and thus establishes his own teaching office

Abel concluded his letter by underscoring that he can no longer call himself a “priest of the Diocese of Fulda,” and suggested that Our Lord’s promise that the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church may not be guaranteed in the diocese.

“In the future, I will no longer call myself ‘priest of the diocese of Fulda,’ but ‘(a priest) of the Roman Catholic Church,’” the priest wrote. “Because in the Petrine ministry, which has its seat in Rome, I see the guarantor of a Church, which still applies to Jesus’ promise: the gates of hell will not overpower it. The latter is no longer guaranteed to the church in Fulda.”

Moraes will feel the full weight of US sanctions.

All the freedom-loving people in Brazil are celebrating the decision by US Donald J. Trump administration to impose heavy sanction under the Magnitsky law against tyrant Supreme Court justice Alexandre de Moraes – the man leading the ‘witch hunt’ against former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, a stanch Trump ally.

This comes less than two weeks after the US cancelled visas for Moraes and 7 other supreme court justices and many other top officials – and their families – in an unprecedented move.

This is happening over the sham prosecution of Bolsonaro and many other conservative voices.

“The sanctions are a marked escalation of the increasingly tense dispute between the U.S. and Brazil over Trump ally Bolsonaro, with major tariffs looming as soon as Friday as well.

The Treasury Department said it would impose the sanctions against Alexandre de Moraes, the judge who oversaw the prosecution of Bolsonaro and briefly banned Elon Musk’s X in the country.”

“The sanctions order blocks any assets de Moraes has in the U.S. and prohibits U.S. citizens from transactions with him.

The department said he was being targeted under executive orders covering anyone ‘who is responsible for or complicit in, or has directly or indirectly engaged in, serious human rights abuse’.”

“According to the US government, all of Alexandre de Moraes’s potential assets in the US are frozen, as are any companies linked to him. The minister is also prohibited from conducting transactions with US citizens and companies—using US-branded credit cards, for example.”
