UK Tories Made Interns Complete ‘Privilege Walks’

A British political party has asked its interns to complete ‘privilege walks’ to draw attention to their white, middle-class advantages. Not Labour, but the Conservatives.

The Daily Telegraph this week reported that Tory interns have been quizzed on their race, gender, sexuality, and disability “to help staff identify whether they are more fortunate than their colleagues.” The paper noted:

If a participant answered “yes” to a question, they had to take a step forward. The person who travelled the furthest during the exercise was deemed the “most privileged.”

The ‘training,’ said writer Wanjiru Njoya, is evidence that the Tories are “woke-captured.” The Spectator Australia correspondent Mark Higgie added: “Who would have thought that the party of Thatcher and Churchill would be one of Britain’s institutions captured not just a bit but comprehensively by the Left?” In fact, the training occurs not only in “the party of Thatcher,” as Higgie puts it, but “outside the Margaret Thatcher boardroom at the Conservative Campaign headquarters in London,” according to the Telegraph.

The ‘privilege walk’ forms part of a workshop led by the Patchwork Foundation charity, which is supported by Labour, the Liberal Democrats, the Scottish Nationalist Party, and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan—as well as the Tories.

Party officials tried to distance themselves from the activity, stating: “Patchwork Foundation development days are run alongside, but are separate to, the CCHQ [Conservative Campaign Headquarters] internship. These meetings are run solely by the Patchwork Foundation and are not influenced by CCHQ.” Not influenced by, but still supported and adopted by CCHQ.

Commenting on this organisational branch of the Conservative Party, Bow Group Chairman Ben Harris-Quinney told The European Conservative:

Many people puzzle over how the Conservative Party can have got to the state it’s in, but it can arguably be answered in 4 letters: CCHQ.

It is the civil service of the Conservative Party that decides who all the candidates will be, whether the membership likes it or not. It is from here that [former Tory leader David] Cameron’s master plan to turn the Conservative Party into ‘New Labour’ was carried out. That is how we have ended up with a Parliament half-full of progressive liberals posing as conservatives, perfectly balanced by the other half of progressive liberals posing as socialists.

Every now and then, we get a glimpse of what an even more horrific future looks like when news emerges of the latest CCHQ plot to eradicate any remaining straight white males from public life, unless they went to Eton. With young interns newly trained to loathe their prospective voter base, the conclusion must be that the Conservative Party is far from its end, and has a bright long future of self-destruction ahead of it.

The Telegraph noted that interns could not refuse to attend this training when the programme was launched in 2021, but that the 2023 cohort was spared the ‘privilege walks.’”’
