On Monday, there was a brutal attack on two members of staff at the Brüttisellen youth hostel: A 19-year-old resident of the socio-educational youth centre inflicted serious facial injuries on the women with a knife. The 36- and 45-year-old Swiss women had to be taken to hospital.
The Zurich public prosecutor’s office has opened proceedings against the 19-year-old resident of the home. This was confirmed by Head of Communications Erich Wenzinger at the request of 20 Minuten. “The public prosecutor’s office is conducting criminal proceedings against the accused 19-year-old Pakistani for an offence against life and limb. Yesterday afternoon, it applied to the compulsory measures court for an order for pre-trial detention.”

According to Wenzinger, the decision of the court of compulsory measures is still pending. The presumption of innocence applies until the proceedings are finalised.

The background to the incident is the subject of ongoing investigations by the police and public prosecutor’s office. “We are not making any further statements due to the ongoing proceedings or for reasons of personal privacy.”

According to two young people who attend the social centre, the knife attack was preceded by an argument. It is said to have been about the 19-year-old man’s mobile phone addiction, who was “constantly” glued to his smartphone.
