Anne (all first names changed) was only 12 years old when she was abducted, insulted, humiliated, beaten and raped several times because of her Jewish religion. It was in Courbevoie (Hauts-de-Seine), in the glass and steel district of La Défense, on a Saturday afternoon in June 2024, when the school opened its doors and there was already a hint of holiday in the air. The tragedy took place against the backdrop of a rise in anti-Semitic acts, shocked the whole of France, and hit a burning political topicality a few days after the dissolution of the National Assembly.

For Anne and her parents, the trauma of June 15 has affected every aspect of their intimate, social and family life. The girl suffers from anxiety disorders day and night and still has great difficulty squeezing into a swimming costume in public. She also had to decide to stop doing gymnastics because ‘certain positions might remind her of the offence’ and never walks alone on the street anymore.
Her parents preferred to move and send her to another school.
