A drunk man caused panic in central Lyon on Tuesday afternoon when rumours spread that he was armed with a knife. Shortly before 4 p.m., the city police were alerted that a threatening individual had committed an assault with a stabbing weapon and was running around shouting ‘Allah Akbar’.

About fifteen city police officers rushed to Rue Mercière (2nd arrondissement), where the suspect was quickly apprehended and pinned to the ground. He was not carrying a knife, and no knife was found in the vicinity, but he was clearly drunk.
