France: “French scum”, “I would have smashed his skull”: A shop owner becomes a target on the social networks after asking a temp not to wear a veil

A video has been spreading on social media for a few hours now, recording an upsetting case. It was recorded in a Geox shop in Strasbourg. The sequence shows the store manager refusing entry to a temporary employee wearing a headscarf.

He tells her that she has to leave as she is on private property and says to her: “We are on private property here. So get your things…”. The assistant then asks the man to contact the agency that sent her to the scene.

At the young woman’s insistence, the manager continues: “I’ll ask you to get your things and go outside. This is a private place. When I ask you to leave, leave! You’re not wearing the right clothes. I can’t hold you if you don’t want to wear the right clothes,” adding, “We’re in France, madame. That’s what the law says.” For her part, the temp replied to the manager: “Liberty, equality, fraternity. It’s not written in my contract that I’m not allowed to wear the veil,” before taking her things and leaving the shop. Since then, there have been numerous reactions to this situation on social media, coming from all directions
