On Wednesday morning, cries of ‘Allahu Akbar’ were heard on Leipziger Strasse in Dresden. A mentally disturbed man ( aged 31) attacked several people, including women and children. He was forcibly admitted to hospital.
According to information provided by the police to TAG24, the 31-year-old first attacked a 29-year-old woman with a small child at the ‘Alttrachau’ tram stop on Leipziger Strasse at around 10:05 a.m., punching and kicking her.
He then attacked a 67-year-old female driver who had stopped and got out of her car, punching and kicking her.
Shortly afterwards, the man attacked another female driver (64) who was parked on Leipziger Strasse. He punched his victim through the open window.
An eyewitness ( aged 37) rushed to help and was also attacked and beaten by the 31-year-old. Nevertheless, the passer-by managed to hold the suspect until the police arrived.
The officers arrested the Syrian national. He chanted religious slogans as they did so.
As the 31-year-old was mentally unstable, he was forcibly admitted to hospital after his arrest. He is currently in a specialist hospital.
‘The political statements have nothing to do with the man’s obvious mental instability,’ explains police spokesman Marko Laske ( aged 50). The man was not under the influence of drugs.
The 64-year-old woman had to be taken to hospital, while the other three people were treated on site as outpatients.
The Syrian man is now under investigation for assault. It is still unclear what drove the man to commit this brutal act. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
