On April 19, a physical assault took place
during a Regional Express journey from Düsseldorf Central Station to
Dortmund Central Station. At around 06:20,a 32-year-old man insulted a 24-year-old, also making racist remarks. The suspect then struck the Sudanese man several times in the face with a mobile phone.
Security staff became aware of the incident in the passenger tunnel at Dortmund Central Station and detained those involved at the scene. Federal Police officers were called in and took over further police measures.
As it was not possible to establish their identities on the spot,
all those involved were taken to the police station.
The man who had been struck complained of severe headaches and
bruising to the face. The ambulance crew who had been called to the scene
provided medical care for the man from Bochum. A breath test revealed a blood alcohol level of approximately 2 per mille in the Moroccan man. After being informed of his rights, the 32-year-old made no comment regarding the allegations.
Once the police had completed their procedures, the officers ordered the homeless man to leave the area.
The Federal Police launched a preliminary investigation and secured the video footage.
