It is both a disturbing and remarkable report from the Karlsruhe Federal Police Inspectorate. Disturbing not only because a man was pushed under a ” train in service” at the main station in Pforzheim, but above all why: Apparently, the 49-year-old had refused to hand over a cigarette to his two attackers. The press release is remarkable because it says in the first sentences: “The injured party was approached by a 33-year-old Algerian and (he) demanded a cigarette. Accompanying the suspect was a 31-year-old man from Tunisia.”
This much clarity is anything but a matter of course for the police. Where otherwise in comparable cases there is talk at most of “suspects with a southern appearance” or in a completely misleading way even of a “man from Nuremberg”, here the names are named. But not by everyone. While the newpaper “Pforzheimer Zeitung” has taken over the police report more or less unchanged, the newspaper BNN censors as follows: “A 33-year-old and a 31-year-old man asked the 49-year-old for a cigarette.” And that’s the end of the statement!
According to the police, the two North Africans hit and pushed their victim. “During one of these blows, the victim fell between the platform and a standing train”, according to the report. However, the 49-year-old was able to “get back” to the platform on his own, where he was “abruptly” maltreated again by the two suspects.
The fact that the injured party, whose nationality was not disclosed by the police, did not end up on the tracks or under the train again is probably due in particular to the courageous intervention of bystanders. The police wrote: “Bystanders tried to separate the opponents, but only succeeded after officers of the Federal Police arrived.”
The Tunisian was apparently able to flee at first, but was apprehended shortly afterwards by the state police and handed over to the federal police patrol responsible at the main railway station. Both the victim and one of the two attackers reportedly had to be treated by an ambulance service.
The Federal Police filed charges against the two North Africans, among other things on suspicion of “dangerous bodily harm by life-threatening treatment”.
