Halid S., the 23-year-old who claimed a man’s life with a single punch at Augsburg’s Königsplatz in 2019, has returned to the courtroom just months after spending years in prison. This time, he stands accused alongside four other defendants for a brutal assault allegedly fueled by homophobia.

A German-Turkish man, Halid S. already served a four-and-a-half-year sentence in a youth prison for punching a family man during a heated argument. The blow resulted in a cerebral hemorrhage that killed the victim. Halid S. was only free for a few months before this latest incident occurred.

The prosecution alleges that nearly a year ago, a night of partying on Augsburg’s Maximilianstraße turned violent. Halid S. and his group, all of whom are men with a migration background and none of whom have even completed vocational training, consumed a three-liter bottle of vodka and cocaine before they went out. Once on the streets, they encountered a homosexual couple at an ATM. The indictment suggests the victims were targeted specifically because they were recognizable as a gay couple, according to the Augsburger Allgemeine media outlet.

According to the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office, the confrontation escalated rapidly. After sexual insults were hurled, one victim reportedly grabbed a defendant by the collar. Four of the five friends are then accused of punching and kicking the couple.

Witnesses described the attackers taking run-ups to kick the men in the head and torso while they were already defenseless on the ground.

During the opening of the trial at the Regional Court, Halid S. appeared shackled and expressed regret through his attorney, David Mühlberger. While he admitted to delivering blows, he denied kicking the victims in the head.

“I am truly sorry about the matter and will express this if requested by the injured parties,” he said.

The defense emphasized that the 23-year-old is willing to pay restitution and claims to have turned a corner regarding his substance abuse:

“I am not and will not use alcohol or drugs again,” said Halid S.

This case has reignited a fierce debate in Augsburg regarding the efficacy of the penal system. During his first trial, judges noted Halid S. had an aggression problem requiring intensive treatment. His swift return to violent crime suggests that rehabilitation efforts appear to have failed.

The trial involves five men between the ages of 23 and 25 facing charges of grievous bodily harm, insults, and threats with a hate-crime designation. Eleven trial days have been scheduled to reach a verdict.

Between corruption and radicalization, Spain’s government seems to be spinning out of control.

In 1936, Spain plunged into civil war. A proud nation collapsed into violence, fire, and devastation. The Spanish Civil War, which set a communist-dominated Republican left against an authoritarian nationalist right, claimed roughly half a million lives. Priests were dragged through the streets, beaten, and mutilated — ears, noses, even genitals cut off — before being shot or having their throats slit. Nuns were raped prior to execution, in cases documented across several regions. Churches were set ablaze with priests still inside. In many towns, militiamen forced clergy to drink motor oil or gasoline before burning them alive. Spain’s right wing, not to be outdone, killed just as many.

Almost a century later, when one might have hoped that these wounds had finally healed, political and cultural fault lines are reopening. Polarization has reached levels rarely seen since Spain’s transition to democracy.

1. The original trauma of the Spanish left

The Spanish Civil War, in Spain’s collective memory, remains an open wound. For a significant portion of the Spanish “left” — standing for workers’ rights, a shorter work week, women’s and transgender rights, reducing carbon emissions — the dominant narrative remains that of a revolution betrayed, confiscated by fascism, and still pending, never repaired. This historical resentment has been transmitted from generation to generation like an act of faith. Today, under the government of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and his coalition, which governs with the support of the extreme-left, this resentment is resurfacing in the form of historical revisionism.

By constantly summoning the specters of the past — going so far as to exhume Francisco Franco’s remains, in a direct evocation of civil-war-era practices, when communists gleefully desecrated the graves of their so-called “class enemies” — is the left not in danger of reviving the hatreds and violence of the past?

2. A left without a compass: ideological orphanhood

Spain’s left is becoming more radical precisely because it has run out of ideas. Marxism, long the doctrinal backbone of the global left, lost all credibility with the implosion of the USSR, amid the stench of cabbage and corpses. Spain is no exception. Stripped of this ideological foundation, the Spanish left now finds itself without a compass.

Before the July 2023 elections, Sánchez promised a bold progressive agenda: mass public housing construction, reducing the working week to 37.5 hours, large minimum wage hikes, slashing healthcare waiting lists with binding maximum times, free public transport for youth, and expanded public education. Critically, delivery on these massive flagship promises has been dismal to date: virtually no new public housing built, prices soaring, the work-week reduction defeated in parliament, real wages eroded by inflation, and chronic healthcare waiting lists unchanged.

Sánchez’s Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), once anchored in moderate, reformist social democracy, has gradually shifted toward a strategy of sheer political survival. To remain in power, it allied itself first with Podemos and then with Sumar—two extreme left-wing parties obsessed with supporting Palestinians, against NATO, and soft on Russia — as well as with separatist movements. In doing so, the PSOE diluted its original moderate reformist vision through blatant opportunism, sacrificing doctrinal coherence in favor of questionable alliances.

3. A patchwork of incoherent dogmas

Deprived of Marxism, the Spanish left has sought refuge in a disparate ideological mosaic: radical environmentalism, complicit indulgence toward political Islam, the dismantling of borders, unconditional support for the Palestinians against Israel – all stacked together into an improbable and incoherent magma. Added to this are recurring undertones of anti-Semitism in left-wing discourse — one thinks in particular of Yolanda Díaz, seemingly a figure of clinical hysteria, whose face visibly contorts the moment she pronounces the word “Israeli.”

By radicalizing itself across every issue, the left fuels the anger of the right, the middle classes, and a growing segment of the population that feels marginalized, despised, and alienated within its own country.

4. A regime corrupt to the core?

The Sánchez government has another reason for aligning with jihadists: the corruption scandals that have engulfed even the prime minister’s immediate family.

First comes the Koldo-Ábalos scandal involving irregular public contracts, illegal commissions, and bribes linked to public-works contracts, totaling several hundred million euros. Several figures are particularly implicated. Former Minister of Transport José Luis Ábalos, a close ally of Sánchez, is in pre-trial detention for criminal organization, corruption, embezzlement, and influence peddling.

Koldo García, Ábalos’s former adviser, is a central figure in the scheme. He too is in pre-trial detention and under prosecution. Santos Cerdán, former secretary of organization of the PSOE and Ábalos’s successor, is under investigation and was detained for corruption in public-works contracts. The Civil Guard is examining 22 contracts, worth €355 million, that were allegedly manipulated by favoritism.

Added to this are the cases involving Sánchez’s own family. Begoña Gómez, his wife, was formally charged with influence peddling, corruption in business, embezzlement of public funds, misappropriation, and illegally practicing a regulated profession, in a case that was opened in April 2024. In August 2025, the probe was extended to include her advisor Cristina Álvarez.

The investigation into Gómez has been extended until at least April 2026 and continues with active measures, including February 2026 requests to the Interior Ministry for travel records of Gómez and Álvarez since 2018 (covering destinations such as the Dominican Republic, Congo, Guinea, and Russia), access to emails, and Civil Guard reports.

David Sánchez, the prime minister’s brother, is also being prosecuted, for influence peddling and malfeasance in connection with his employment at the Badajoz Provincial Council. “The prime minister faces multiple legal challenges this year that could lead to the downfall of his family, his party, and his government,” summarizes Spanish daily El Mundo.

5. An ideological junta radicalizing itself to survive

The high point of the Spanish left’s radicalization was reached with a January 2026 decree legalizing between 500,000 and a million illegal immigrants. Although presented as a humanitarian and economic measure, this slap-happy decision provoked widespread outrage among Spaniards. The Vox party has identified this as a massive “pull factor” that will inevitably attract millions of additional illegal immigrants. Public services, already under severe strain, are on the brink of collapse. Entire swathes of Spanish territory are, additionally, drifting toward an Islamic cultural environment.

Heading toward the point of no return?

The warning signs are multiplying. Traumatized by its history, cornered by the judiciary, and deprived of ideological reference points, the Spanish left appears to be locking itself into radical dogmas and adopting increasingly divisive policies simply to remain in power.

A nurse forced out of her job in the U.K. for referring to a transgender-identifying male pedophile as “Mr.” returned to work this week, and she expressed her gratitude to Jesus for the victory in her hard-fought case.

“This has been an incredibly long and painful journey,” said 41-year-old Jennifer Melle. “I want to give thanks, first and foremost, to Jesus, who has sustained me every step of the way. I also want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has stood with me, prayed for me, and supported me through the darkest moments. Your encouragement has meant more than you will ever know.”

Melle, an NHS nurse and single mother of two, was suspended from her job at St. Helier Hospital in Carshalton, Surrey, in May 2024, after having served dutifully as a nurse for 12 years. In 2024, a transgender-identifying pedophile, referred to as “Patient X,” arrived at the hospital from a prison, chained to guards, needing treatment for a urinary infection.

Melle had to fit him with a catheter and referred to him as “Mr.” The pedophile, a six-foot man with a beard, began screaming a “torrent of racial abuse” along with threats of physical violence at Melle, who is black. The hospital, however, decided that the pedophile was the victim, and placed Melle under investigation, transferring her to another ward. She was given a disciplinary hearing and a written warning in December 2024.

The hospital, however, was apparently worried about its treatment of Melle. “She was then accused of a potential patient data breach by Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust for speaking about the incident – despite the person’s identity remaining unknown,” reported the Daily Mail. The following year, in April 2025, Melle was suspended for nine months while another investigation was conducted, this time of allegedly speaking publicly about what had happened to her.

Fortunately, her case was taken up by others. Over 18,000 people signed a petition in favor of clearing her name and reinstating her at her job. Sandy Fife, a nurse similarly suspended by the NHS for protesting having to share a changeroom with a transgender-identifying man spoke up in her defense. So did a number of MPs, including Rosie Duffield, Jim Shannon, Mims Davies, and Rebbeca Paul. Shadow Equalities Minister Claire Coutinho called her “one of the bravest women I have ever met,” according to the Daily Mail.

“Her case is proof of how the NHS has been captured by a radical gender ideology that puts women at the bottom of the pile,” Coutinho stated. “In being punished for ‘misgendering’ a convicted paedophile, she has been repeatedly failed by her employers and trade unions. She is a dedicated nurse with 13 years of faultless service. The NHS should not be punishing hard-working nurses who know biological sex is real.”

Melle was reinstated in a private “crunch hearing” that the press was not permitted to attend, and she told the Express that while she is “glad to be returning to work, I must be honest: this is not over.” Melle, who is not being supported by her union, the Royal College of Nursing, is still facing “two outstanding Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) fitness-to-practice investigations over ‘misgendering’ the paedophile,” with a full employment tribunal scheduled for April.

“For nearly a year I have been suspended simply for telling the truth: that I was racially abused and physically threatened after using biologically accurate language to refer to a male patient,” said Melle. “I was treated as the criminal.” She is planning to take her case to the employment tribunal on the grounds that she is a victim of harassment, discrimination, and beaches of freedom of religion and thought.

“Jennifer’s reinstatement is welcome, but it is justice delayed and only partially delivered,” said Andrea Williams, Chief Executive of the Christian Legal Centre. “The Trust was poised to dismiss a dedicated Christian nurse for the ‘crime’ of telling the truth about the racial abuse and physical threats she suffered at the hands of a convicted paedophile. It took national media pressure, the intervention of an MP, and the weight of public outrage to force them to do the right thing.”

The Green Party would offer illegal migrants free accommodation and a Universal Basic Income with no requirement to seek work, according to newly surfaced policy documents.

Under proposals backed by leader Zack Polanski, those arriving in Britain without authorisation would gain immediate access to NHS services and be allowed to work without restriction as part of the party’s vision for “a world without borders”.

The internal papers, revealed by the Daily Mail, also set out plans to scrap immigration detention entirely and grant amnesty to migrants whose asylum claims have been rejected.

The documents declare that “migration is not a criminal offence under any circumstances” and outline an approach that would treat new arrivals as “citizens in waiting”, encouraging them to settle permanently.

Migrant families would be provided with exclusive use of a house or flat, while single men would be allocated their own rooms in shared properties.

Those identifying as LGBT would receive separate accommodation for safeguarding reasons.

The proposals say these entitlements would remain in place “even if their case is rejected”, with no deportation for those who have exhausted appeal rights.

Border Force officers would be instructed to adopt a “neutral approach” during interviews, accepting applicants’ accounts “in the absence of contrary evidence”.

Fines for airlines and ferry operators carrying undocumented passengers would also be abolished.

The revelations come as a fresh national poll places the Greens second in voting intention, intensifying scrutiny of their platform.

Reform UK Home Affairs spokesman Zia Yusuf condemned the plans as “reckless” and “dangerous”.

“Under the Green’s open borders plans not only is every hoodlum and criminal welcome to our shores but entitled to free housing, healthcare and anything else they might fancy,” he told the Daily Mail.

Mr Yusuf added: “My only surprise is Zack Polanski isn’t promising to furnish them all with free heroin and crack cocaine which he wants to legalise.

“The Green’s policies are not only financially reckless but also dangerous.”

His remarks follow reports last week detailing the party’s proposals to decriminalise drugs including heroin and crack cocaine, which the Greens argue “enhance human relationships and human creativity”.

Reacting to the internal documents, a Labour source said: “The British public rightly expect our country to have immigration controls that are fair and properly enforced – not the open-borders plan that the Greens are proposing.”

A recent Find Out Now poll of 3,029 respondents put the Greens on 18 per cent nationally, behind Reform on 25 per cent but ahead of Labour on 16 per cent.

A source from within Mr Polanski’s party said the proposals differ from the party’s fully costed 2024 manifesto, but admitted they remain a “long-standing policy and aim”.

A spokesman for the Green Party told the Daily Mail: “We’re proud of [this] policy, voted on and decided by our members, however much the Daily Mail tries to spin it.

“And we know it’s popular as well – Green policy regularly comes out as the most popular in polls, and it is also going down well in Gorton and Denton where Greens are now neck-and-neck with Reform to win what used to be one of Labour’s safest seats in the country.”

On the evening of February 23, a federal police patrol at Gelsenkirchen Central Station noticed two men wearing bulletproof vests. During a check, the officers found a loaded alarm gun in the men’s handbag.

At around 10:30 p.m., the officers identified the two 19-year-olds, who were both apparently wearing protective vests under their jackets. The Syrian and the German were dressed entirely in black. When questioned, the German national stated that he was carrying a firearm in his shoulder bag. The man from Essen was asked to slowly hand over the bag he was carrying under his arm to the officers. In the bag, they found a loaded alarm gun and confiscated it immediately. When asked for a gun licence, the young man replied in the negative, whereupon the officers instructed him. The accused exercised his right to remain silent and made no further statements. In the office, the officers established his identity beyond doubt and carried out an identification procedure, taking his fingerprints and photographs. After completing the police measures, the federal police officers released the accused and his companion. The two protective vests were also confiscated.

A preliminary investigation was initiated for violation of the Weapons Act.

Anyone concerned about the present and future of Western civilization has surely been watching, with emotions ranging from dismay to outrage, the disheartening capitulation of the United Kingdom. England, a country that famously once ruled over an empire on which the sun never set, is now in the process of submitting to Islamic colonization, thanks of course to the country’s multiculturalist elites and their genocidal aim to eradicate all traces of the indigenous British people and their culture.

Many believe that Europe is a lost cause, that demography is destiny and it’s too late to reverse the mass migration of millions of mostly military-age Muslim males who openly express their imperialist designs on the continent. But the British people are rising up, led by such defenders of the West as politician Rupert Lowe and dauntless activist Tommy Robinson.

More voices are joining theirs. Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull, also known as Posie Parker, is a British women’s rights activist (but “not a feminist,” she hastens to add) and founder of Let Women Speak. She is known for popularizing, at least in gender-critical circles, the slogan “adult human female,” which is perceived to be anti-transgender, although it is simply the definition of “woman” – a concept apparently foreign to the gender ideologues of the Left. Much like Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, Keen has been called “a leading voice in the anti-trans movement” (not intended as a compliment). Predictably, she is sometimes smeared as “far-right,” which is media-speak for people who hold views that were considered normal and sane for all of human history up until ten minutes ago. She has been targeted by the terror group Antifa and other violent lunatics at her public appearances everywhere from Portland to New Zealand (which she described as “the worst place for women she has ever visited”).

In other words, she is no stranger to courageous truth-telling. And now she is courting controversy again.

On Saturday, Keen posted a video creation of her own making (via AI): a five-minute, animated musical number from a fictional parody of a forthcoming Disney film called The Caliphate. A sort of modified version of the song “Belle” from the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast, the video features a blonde female protagonist singing and dancing her way through a tale of two cities: a sunny, idyllic British town transformed before our eyes into a dark, dystopian nightmare by submission to Islamic conquest from within. “Welcome to Britain under the brand new caliphate,” she sings in the chorus. “You’re no longer free.”

The video opens with a parodic version of the iconic Walt Disney Pictures logo, with Islamic crescents and a palace of domes and minarets substituting for the Disneyland castle and fireworks. It is at once amusing and chilling. Then our heroine leads us on a melodic but terrifying journey into Islamic totalitarianism, beginning with the eye-opening, straightforward lines,

The video takes us into the darkest depths of life under sharia, from girls as young as nine being taken as wives, to stoning for homosexuality. It reflects a misogynistic reality under an Islamic theocracy that eclipses the Left’s fear-mongering, ridiculous Handmaid’s Tale fantasy they warn us will come about under Christian nationalism.

The trailer ends with an ominous “COMING SOON” onscreen; and indeed it is clear, to all with eyes to see, that accelerated Islamic colonization is already underway – and not just in Europe. Right here in the Land of the Free, a Muslim communist has been elected mayor of New York City, a mere 25 years after the 9/11 attacks. Sweden’s public broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT) has been reprimanded by the country’s media watchdog after one of its correspondents referred to migrants crossing the English Channel as “illegal migrants” during a news segment.

The ruling was issued by the Review Board, following complaints about a report broadcast on SVT’s flagship news program “Rapport” in September 2025.

The feature covered anti-immigration protests in the United Kingdom against hotels housing asylum seekers. During the segment, SVT’s U.K. correspondent Anna-Maja Persson stated, “So far this year, a record number of illegal migrants have crossed the English Channel to the U.K., where asylum seekers are being placed in hotels, among other things.”

As Samnytt reported, two viewers reported the broadcast, arguing that the expression “illegal migrants” was evaluative and created the impression that people seeking asylum had committed crimes.

In its response to the Review Board, SVT maintained that the wording was intended to reflect the legal classification under British law of the method of entry — not to describe the individuals concerned as criminals. The broadcaster argued that those arriving via irregular routes lack valid entry permits and that this form of entry is described as illegal migration in UK legislation, including under the Illegal Migration Act 2023.

Under the legislation, a migrant is considered to be “in breach of immigration control” if they enter “without leave where leave is required,” enter “via irregular routes such as small boats,” or arrive “without valid entry clearance.”

While some argue that irregular entry is the only way that some believe they can claim asylum, the reality is that it is not, with multiple programs running in conflict zones where genuine asylum requests are considered. All arrivals have also passed through multiple “safe” countries where they are expected to claim asylum at the first opportunity.

Also, while the vast majority of those arriving illegally claim asylum, not all do, and therefore remain living in Britain illegally.

Despite the legal definition, Sweden’s Review Board rejected that defense. In its decision, it stated that even if British authorities classify the phenomenon as illegal migration, that “does not legitimize the use of the term illegal migrant for individuals who arrive in the country in this way.”

“In the opinion of the committee, this designation was both misleading in violation of the requirement for objectivity and evaluative in violation of the requirement for impartiality,” the board wrote, as cited by Journalisten.

The ruling was not unanimous. Vice-chairman Ulrik von Essen and board member Staffan Rosell dissented, arguing that SVT should have been acquitted.

Jean Luc Mélenchon, leader of radical left La France Insoumise (LFI), announced today at the party press conference that, if LFI wins the 2027 presidential election, the first law he wants to pass will be aimed at “breaking media monopolies”.

Mélenchon, known for his adversarial relationship with the press, vows to “liberate” the media from financial interests, while dismantling conglomerates he deems incompatible with pluralism.

The leader of the party is explicitly targeting press groups owned by billionaire and supporter of Marine Le Pen, Vincent Bolloré (CNews, Canal+, Europe 1, Le Journal du Dimanche), which he promises to “sell off in pieces” or, if necessary, to “confiscate”.

He also argues that press subsidies should be reserved for struggling outlets, such as the left-wing daily L’Humanité, or for emerging independent media rather than established “bourgeois” outlets like Le Monde.

Mélenchon’s criticism extends beyond traditional media outlets to what he calls an “insufferable monopoly” over the entire literary chain. His target includes not only the major publishing houses but also the retailers and bookstores that control the distribution of “ideas”.

These statements were made during a press conference organized by LFI near their headquarters in Paris. According to Libération, the radical left party restricted access to its press conference, inviting only a select group of independent and “new media”, alongside several influencers and YouTubers.

In contrast, the vast majority of national media organisations including public broadcasters and several outlets typically considered left-leaning were denied entry. Though these major newsrooms were officially notified of the event via a press release, they were barred from attending.

After the press conference, Mélenchon personally attacked Le Monde journalist Olivier Pérou on X, accusing him of lying about the party’s selective media credentials. He adds that Pérou would be permanently barred from all future LFI events, citing the reporter’s past descriptions of the party as a “sect” as a breach of professional relationships.

At a time when pro-Palestinian MEP Rima Hassan is being welcomed with honours at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Lyon (Sciences Po Lyon), Professor Fabrice Balanche, just a few metres away, is under the protection of a private security firm for having opposed the holding of a Ramadan fast-breaking banquet on the premises of Lyon 2 University.

The revelation comes from Professor Balanche himself: he has had to teach under the protection of two security guards from a private security company since he was intimidated eleven months ago during one of his lectures by masked individuals, whom he identifies as belonging to “the anti-fascist nebula that reigns on campus.” The reason: he opposed the organisation of Ramadan fast-breaking banquets at the University of Lyon 2, where he teaches political geography of the Middle East. About fifteen masked activists came to disrupt his class, shouting “Racists, Zionists, you are the terrorists,” accusing him of being “pro-Assad, an accomplice to genocide.”

Since then, he has been living under constant threat. His name is spray-painted on the walls of the campus: “Balanche, get lost!” “Balanche Nazi,” “Balanche, get out.” Living in constant fear of physical attack, he now teaches with two private security guards—not police officers—stationed outside the door of his lecture theatre.

In October, a poster campaign carried out jointly in the buildings of Sciences Po Lyon and Lyon 2 targeted him in particular. It was at Sciences Po Lyon that the pro-Palestinian MEP Rima Hassan was invited on February 12th. The La France Insoumise (LFI) activist was greeted by a counter-protest organised by the feminist identity Collectif Némésis, which in turn triggered violence from Lyon’s antifas, leading to the lynching of Quentin Deranque, who had come to protect his friends from the Némésis group.

Young Quentin was a mathematics student at the University of Lyon 2. Professor Balanche deplores the fact that nothing was organised by the institution following his tragic death: “No tribute, no minute’s silence, no display of Quentin’s portrait.” For him, the facts are clear: “Quentin died because he opposed the destruction of the university by the far left.” The university administration focused its communication on the “political exploitation” of Quentin’s death and scarcely expressed its compassion to the victim.

Among professors at Lyon 2 and Sciences Po, the leftist narrative is widely accepted: Quentin remains a “neo-Nazi,” and the “far right,” suspected of having set up an ambush, ultimately got what it deserved. Le Figaro had access to an internal discussion group between professors at Sciences Po Paris, entitled “Débats Privés Enseignants ScPo” (Private Debates among Sciences Po Teachers), which leaves no doubt about their biased interpretation of the facts. The victim, Quentin, is portrayed as “a nationalist activist who was there to protect transphobic racists from Némésis.” Throughout the conversation, comments that deny the very existence of far-left violence are legion. The exchanges, which took place over several days, became so heated that some teachers ended up concluding that “these neo-Nazis got what they were looking for, in more ways than one.” Some teachers ended up demanding an apology from the author of this statement—an economics teacher, who refused to comply and preferred to remain silent.

In Lyon, divisions are only deepening. The favourite candidate for mayor of Lyon, Jean-Michel Aulas, asked the current mayor, the ecologist Grégory Doucet, to display Quentin’s portrait on the façade of the town hall. The latter refused, describing the request as “indecent.” Doucet is known for having ostentatiously displayed his support in the past for La Jeune Garde, the anti-fascist movement responsible for Quentin’s death. For Professor Balanche, there is “an objective ecosystem uniting the city of Lyon, the town hall, Lyon 2 and Sciences Po Lyon.”

British Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer has been accused of overseeing a system which reportedly allowed suspected grooming gang child rapists to walk free with a warning during his time as the country’s top prosecutor.

According to an investigation from the Express newspaper, at least 13,000 “Child Abduction Warning Notices” were sent out by police between 2008 and 2025 in a supposed effort to “disrupt” child rape grooming gangs. However, it is possible that the true figure is much higher, given inconsistent record-keeping by police forces.

The warning letter system, the paper noted, was started in the wake of revelations concerning the predominantly Pakistani Muslim child rape gang scandals in Rotherham and Rochdale.

The investigation noted that the first instance of the term “Child Abduction Warning Notices” as a part of a national strategy to confront sexual abuse was in a 2011 report written by Sir Keir Starmer when he was serving at the helm of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

In one notable example, some 220 warning letters were reportedly handed out to suspected members of a Newcastle grooming gang as a part of Northumbria Police’s Operation Sanctuary.

Despite police forces using such warning letters for nearly two decades, there has never been any comprehensive study into their effectiveness in deterring child sex offenders or the likelihood of their issuance leading to prosecutions.

Former Manchester detective turned grooming gang whistleblower Maggie Oliver told the Express that she had witnessed police colleagues using the warning letters as a means of making investigations “go away”.

“I worked on a case where we had identified 97 child abusers that investigation should have led to serious charges of child rape on a pretty industrial scale,” she said.  “I expected multiple charges of rape against possibly dozens of men. But [instead they] warned a couple of men under the child abduction warning notices. My opinion is they were used to get rid of a job.”

Reform UK Shadow Home Secretary Zia Yusuf said the report demonstrated that Prime Minister Starmer’s position is “completely untenable”, adding: “Instead of fighting for the full force of the law against vile grooming gang predators, Keir Starmer presided over a system that sent out weak and useless ‘warning letters’ to paedophiles.”

Conservative Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Timothy added that “serious questions must be answered about the policies pursued by the Crown Prosecution Service during Keir Starmer’s tenure as Director of Public Prosecutions, and whether those policies contributed to this catastrophic failure.”

Questions have long been raised over Starmer’s potential role in the effective cover-up of grooming gangs during his tenure as the nation’s top prosecutor, with critics frequently citing the initial decision in 2009 not to prosecute a Rochdale grooming gang over the supposed unreliability of a victim. This decision was later reversed by Nazir Afzal, chief prosecutor for northwest England, an appointee of Starmer, who determined the victim to be credible.

Beyond Starmer, many in his left-wing Labour Party are believed to have been directly implicated in the failures to confront Islamic grooming gangs, with local officials in predominantly Labour-controlled areas of the country having been frequently found to have ignored child sex abuse for fear of appearing racist or stoking local ethnic tensions. Victims were often branded by local officials as “prostitutes” despite being under the age of consent.

Although Starmer initially opposed a national inquiry into the grooming gangs scandal, accusing those in favour of a public investigation of jumping on the “bandwagon of the far-right“ and even whipping his own backbenchers last year against voting for an inquiry, public pressure eventually forced the PM to backtrack and allow an inquiry to go ahead.

However, the controversy surrounding the issue has only continued, with prominent grooming victims accusing the government of a further cover up last month by scrapping the inquiry’s survivors advisory panel.
