French Leftist Anarchists Claim Responsibility for Cannes Power Outage Sabotage

Screngrab youtube

Far-left anarchists have claimed responsibility for sabotage attacks on electrical systems and causing power outages in Southern France over the weekend, including at the Cannes Film Festival.

Posting on the far-left online platform IndyMedia, an anonymous group of anarcho-radicals claimed to have sabotaged key electrical infrastructure over the weekend, which left around 160,00 people without power in the Alpes-Maritimes department and around 45,000 in Nice.

The suspected sabotage attacks began in the late hours of Friday evening and continued through Sunday, briefly impacting the closing of the Cannes Film Festival, which the leftist arsonists branded an “obscene ceremony by a sea that has become a refugee cemetery.” However, the event organisers were able to run the programme off backup generators, and therefore, the finale was ultimately uninterrupted.

The supposed saboteurs, who described themselves as “two bands of anarchists”, said that their intention was to both interrupt the film festival as well as shut off power to Thales Alenia Space and other French defence contractors in the region, which they accused of fostering a world which “will not stop bombing, exploiting, extracting, grabbing, raping, ravaging, starving, machine-gunning, polluting, and exterminating, until everything is under its control.”

They accused the French government of being hypocritical, saying that while it preaches the principles of “progress on the international scene,” it is the second-largest arms exporter in the world behind the United States.

“French excellence in this area arms NATO and sows death, from Yemen to Gaza, from Ukraine to the Sahel,” they said, adding that the defence firms in the Cannes region employ thousands of engineers and technicians who “work there daily to develop these military (observation, communication, missile and drone guidance) and civilian (telecommunications, surveillance) satellites.”

Then, in a call for further action, the group urged their radical followers to “cut the power to what destroys us, sabotage is possible!”

“Turn off the screens, cut the highways, cut the pylons, turn off the artificial light, cut the TGV lines, cut telecommunications, cut the bulldozer pipes, turn off the power to the military industry, turn off the power to the factories, cut oil and gas pipelines, cut the measuring masts of the wind turbines, cut army supply lines, cut off water to industrial agriculture and electronics factories, cut the cables of photovoltaic power plants, cut the antennae, cut the bars of prison cells (and long live the attacks on jail!),” they said.

“Cut short reformist and authoritarian discourse, cut short the silencing and minimization of patriarchal violence, cut the pedestal of celebrities and other men of power, who attack and rape behind the scenes and on the battlefields, cut short those who say to wait, and… hold on. Courage.”

According to Le Figaro, investigators believe that the details in the post, such as the targeted sites, demonstrated that the alleged saboteurs were well informed, indicating that they are the likely culprits. Questions have also been raised about the potential of “internal accomplices” within the energy infrastructure system. So far, there have not been any arrests in connection with the attacks.

While infrastructure sabotage suspected to have been committed by the Russians often grabs international headlines, there is a growing phenomenon of far-leftists in Europe using such attacks as a part of their war on the support structures for modern life. For example, “ultra-left” terrorists were suspected of cutting railway cables and setting fires to several railway lines connected to Paris on the morning of the Olympic opening ceremony in the French capital last year.

‘Beheading infidels is permitted’: Only probation for jihadi Syrian in Austria

As a neutral observer, you sometimes get the impression that migrants enjoy a ‘cultural bonus’ in court. In Linz, a Syrian man ( aged 19), who had not hidden his sympathies for the terrorist militia ‘Islamic State’, was given a suspended sentence. He gave an insight into the brutal world view of the jihadists. But a confession, a reference to his young age and a commitment to a course in German language later, he left the court at large.

Austria is struggling with the brutal consequences of mass migration. Hardly a week goes by without a shocking case of imported violence. It was only in February that the insane act of a Syrian in Villach caused horror. The IS sympathiser stabbed a local youth group in broad daylight and killed a 14-year-old boy, grinning as if in mockery when he was arrested.

In contrast, the Syrian ( aged 19) who stood trial in Linz this week had not yet turned to open terrorist violence. For over a year, however, he had spoken to a flatmate in a social centre about a supposed duty to kill infidels. The migrant, on whose mobile phone a large amount of IS footage was found, made similar comments to carers: ‘Infidels can be beheaded, it’s permitted and it’s written in the Koran.’

At first, the staff at the refugee centre tried talking and holding meetings before the authorities were called in. The investigation ended in a trial for membership of a terrorist organisation – which actually carries a sentence of between 1 and 10 years in prison. However, the young immigrant even got off with a suspended sentence of 9 months and attendance at a deradicalisation programme.

The trick was that he not only confessed, but also reformed. He had ‘allowed himself to be influenced by his elders’ and had never known anything else. In addition, according to the judiciary, he had ‘changed his appearance’ and had a favourable social prognosis because he wanted to complete a German language course and perhaps become a teacher and start a family. Another mitigating factor was that, according to the juvenile court, his life situation had ‘improved’ due to his family moving to Austria.

The case raises several questions – and exposes the empty words of the black-red-pink government. It claims to have suspended family reunification and to be taking steps to repatriate people to the country after the fall of Assad. In reality, however, there are still no deportations to the Middle Eastern country. Only a few hundred Syrians accepted the offer of voluntary return – after four months, over 99.8% of all Syrians were still in Austria.

Now a convicted terror sympathiser is being let off with a conditional prison sentence at the absolute lower end of the possible sentence range. Not only is he allowed to remain in the country, but he is also allowed to establish a life here, for which his clan was even brought into the country. If even fantasies about beheading innocent people are no longer detrimental to residency, then what offences are there left at all?

‘May Allah kill her and her children. This bitch”: A lecturer at the French University of Aix-Marseille is targeted by an extreme left-wing student with a dangerous personality profile

New sign of radicalisation at the university? On Instagram, a student who is apparently enrolled in a Master 2 at the Faculty of Arts, Literature, Languages and Humanities in Aix-en-Provence has repeatedly insulted and threatened one of his lecturers. When a student at the university spotted this post from May 7, he decided to report it to the UNI. After briefly analysing the person’s social networks, the right-wing student union alerted the university’s presidency. (…)

‘We don’t know the motives and causes of the dispute between this person and their lecturer, who turned out to be their master’s supervisor. But as soon as we discovered the video, we reported it to the president of the university,’ reports Yann Soltermann, head of UNI Aix-Marseille. The alerted university ‘immediately took the case seriously’, Soltermann is pleased to report. After a legal analysis of the facts and identification of the accused, the university management finally called in the public prosecutor, according to the UNI. On enquiry, the university informed us that it was ‘well informed about this situation and is taking it very seriously. The appropriate measures for such indications were applied immediately’.

Boulevard Voltaire

UNI shared several of his posts on X. ‘Allah akbar, death to America, death to Israel, curse on the Jews and victory for Islam,’ he wrote on his Instagram account, for example – this is the slogan of the Yemeni rebel movement Houthi. The student also called to ‘fuck the whites’ [note: a topic that is said to be a false flag; it is not clear whether the student posted it out of conviction or to expose a conspiracy] or called to ‘kill cops’. Prominent Trans Activist Charged With Sexually Assaulting Two Boys Seeks Information on Young Victims’ Backgrounds in Attempt to Discredit Testimony

A prominent trans activist based in Philadelphia is currently standing trial on charges of sexually assaulting two young boys. Attorneys for Kendall Stephens, born Johnathan, are seeking access to personal documents related to the young victims in a bid to exonerate their client.

Stephens, 39, identifies as transgender and was formerly a prominent LGBTQ+ advocate in Philadelphia. He was arrested on December 18, 2023, after charges involving multiple counts of child sexual abuse were filed against him by the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General.

Stephens allegedly engaged in oral sex with a boy, identified in court records as Z.B., and had inappropriate communication and interactions with another boy, S.B.

Eight counts related to the sexual abuse of children have been lodged against him, including indecent assault against a person less than 13 years old, rape, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, and endangering the welfare of children as a parent or guardian. The incidents are said to have occurred in 2022 and 2023.

Last month, Stephens’ legal representation filed a “Motion to Compel Discovery” with Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge Anthony G. Kyriakakis. The attorneys requested that Judge Kyriakakis order the prosecution to produce documents relating to the boys’ personal lives that they believe could help to exonerate their client. The alleged victims, Z.B. and S.B., are currently ten and fifteen years old, respectively.

Attorneys for Stephens are reportedly seeking to move forward with an accusation that one of the boys, S.B., is a sexual predator himself. The defense intends to argue that S.B., who was 13 at the time of the abuse, fabricated the allegations against Stephens to deflect from his own wrongdoing and sexual impropriety.

Defense attorneys also requested any potential mental health records from the family of the second child, Z.B. Should the family refuse to comply with their demand, Stephens’ legal representation argues that the judge should consider the 10 year-old boy incompetent to testify.

The motion further attempts to argue that the boys’ grandmother, L.B., “coached her grandchildren into making these accusations to obtain a financial windfall, distract from the sexual abuse allegations made against [S.B.] and to obscure her ongoing fraud with the foster care system.” L.B. is alleged to have exploited the welfare system by collecting payments from the state to take care of the boys while they resided with their uncle.

Attorneys are further requesting the judge order the boys’ grandmother to hand over her phone for a forensic investigation.

However, Stephens has a questionable background of his own, having been named in a 2021 investigation into the former Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of LGBT Affairs, a trans-identified male who goes by Celena Morrison. The Philadelphia Board of Ethics had charged Morrison with a violation of the Ethics Code for “receiving a gift in the form of a loan” from Stephens.

The two men were described as “long-time personal friends,” with Executive Director Morrison, who acted as a liaison to city government and police, having stayed at Stephens’ home for a period in 2020.

Stephens, who has advocated for the abolition of prisons, was involved in a prison advocacy organization, Hearts on a Wire, which claims to “address the needs of transgender people” in Pennsylvania’s prisons.

Stephens reached out to Morrison, requesting that the latter use his role within the government to procure taxpayer funding for Hearts on a Wire. Their conversation fizzled by August 19, 2020. Five days later, Stephens was physically assaulted in what he described as a hate incident. Shortly after, Stephens set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for medical and other expenses which ultimately racked up more than $35,000 in donations.

Following news of the assault, Morrison texted Stephens, saying, “I just want you to know that I love you as a sister and I have your back as my sister and as a member of this community. I have your back in my professional position as well and we will not take this lying down.”

Morrison then acted as a liaison between Stephens and city police department officials and the District Attorney’s Office and played a significant role in drawing the attention of the media and authorities to the matter. In September, Stephens sent a check for $4,000 to Morrison, which the city official described as a “gift.”

Morrison also testified to the Ethics Board that Stephens had showed him envelopes containing cash and claimed that he had $200,000 hidden in his closet.

According to police records, Stephens was in a “supervisory role” when he “engaged in deviate sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion or threat” with Z.B., who was nine years old at the time. He then told the boy not to disclose the abuse so that Stephens would not be “locked up.”

Stephens had recently been working in a leadership position at a children’s home for vulnerable youth. Over the past three years, he had been involved with Bethany Children’s Home in Berks County, where he sat on the Board of Directors.

According to the foster home’s website, Stephens, who resided at Bethany as a teen, was chosen for the role due to his experience as a “civil rights activist,” and because he was pursuing a degree in Public Health, Social Work, Communication and Activism from Temple University.

In addition to being in a leadership role among at-risk youth, Stephens has been influential in local politics.

Beginning in 2022, he worked for the District Attorney Office’s (DAO) LGBTQ Advisory Board and the Philadelphia Police Department’s LGBTQIA+ Liaison Committee. In January of last year, the DAO issued a press release announcing the committee, created in response to a “nationwide increase in reported violence toward transgender women of color.”

The LGBTQIA+ Advisory Board was designed to work with “criminal justice partners to address shortcomings that historically have made queer Philadelphians both more vulnerable to violence and to over-policing and prosecution.”

A list of demands created by Stephens and presented outside the Mayor’s Office during a protest he organized in 2021.

Stephens was also mentioned favorably during a June 2021 session of Pennsylvania’s Congress by Representative Mary Gay Scanlon, who was speaking in support of a proposal to enshrine gender identity in law as a protected characteristic via the Equality Act.

“I rise today in recognition of Pride month and to celebrate the rich history of LGBTQ activism in the greater Philadelphia area,” Scanlon said. “Today, activism within Philadelphia’s LGBTQ community continues through… people like my friend, Kendall Stephens, who’s pushing for Pennsylvania to update it’s hate crime statute to finally include LGBTQ people as a protected class.”

Stephens actively supported prison abolition, as evidenced by a video shared by Philly Trans March, where he can be seen speaking in public with a megaphone. In the now-deleted video, Stephens argues that “people are dying at an accelerated rate,” and that politicians are not “supporting and protecting all of the people who are LGBTQ+ identified.”

In the surrounding area, a hand-written list of demands can be seen. “Free all incarcerated trans people,” reads one, and another, “abolish the police.”

Additional demands include the full decriminalization of the sex industry, “comprehensive sex ed” in schools, and an executive order establishing Pennsylvania as a “sanctuary state,” where minors can be given puberty-halting drugs.

‘Free and rebellious women”: In Barcelona, Spain, a feminist mural depicting Gisèle Pelicot was painted over with niqab graffiti; for the artist, this is merely “an expression of hatred towards women”

The artist Mariel Soria, who created the artwork, warns: ‘Whoever they are, they are expressing hatred against women.’

The Ribera neighbourhood in Barcelona woke up with dismay on Thursday. The recently painted feminist mural in Carrer de la Bòria was vandalised in a way that disturbed residents. Under the motto Free, feminist and rebellious, the artist Mariel Soria had painted the portraits of eight women (including Simone de Beauvoir, Maria Aurèlia Campmany, Àngela Davis and Malala Yousafzai) together with a sentence from each of them. This morning, all the faces were covered with an Islamic veil, a niqab to be precise, which covers the entire head except for the eyes and nose, apparently painted on with spray paint.

The news spread through the neighbourhood and by mid-morning, members of the neighbourhood association were already on the scene. ‘We don’t know who did it, but we have to mobilise to condemn it, not as women, but as a neighbourhood, all together,’ said Margarida San Pedro, a member of the women’s committee. Next to her, Josep Maria Seguí warned of the ‘seriousness of the vandalism’. ‘It has worrying political connotations,’ she said, referring to a project in which the women of the association had participated by choosing women and phrases. The act of vandalism coincides with the day that parliament will debate a motion by the Catalan Alliance to ban the wearing of the Islamic veil. Local residents gathered on Thursday afternoon to express their opposition to the graffiti and attempted to remove it with spirit.

One of the most significant works was ‘Free and Rebellious Women’, a powerful and iconic mural by artist Mariel Soria. Eight portraits of committed women, historical or contemporary figures, each embody a universal struggle. With care and sensitivity, the artist wanted to celebrate the strength, diversity and resilience of women. The mural reflects the spirit of the times: Gisèle Pelicot had just made the headlines.

Trump Administration Sent Team to Investigate Free Speech Violations in Britain: Report

The Trump administration reportedly dispatched a team to meet with victims of Britain’s draconian speech restrictions amid growing concerns over the state of liberty in the United Kingdom.

A group of five diplomats from the U.S. State Department were recently sent on a fact-finding mission in March to Britain to meet with pro-life activists who have been arrested for silently praying outside abortion clinics in the UK, The Telegraph reports.

The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) team also met with UK Foreign Office officials and members of the Ofcom broadcasting regulator, which was recently empowered to police speech on the internet in Britain by the controversial Online Safety Act.

The legislation has reportedly become a major bone of contention between Washington and London, given the potential for the British authority to impose hefty fines on American social media firms for failing to police content on their platforms.

The Trump administration has publicly chastised Britain for its increasingly restrictive speech codes, and reports have claimed that the issue could become a sticking point during trade negotiations.

Vice President JD Vance raised the issue of free speech in Europe during his landmark February speech at the Munich Security Conference, and singled out the UK as a chief offender.

“In Britain, and across Europe, free speech, I fear, is in retreat,” Vance warned, adding: “I look to our very dear friends, the United Kingdom, where the backslide away from conscience rights has placed the basic liberties of religious Britons, in particular, in the crosshairs.”

The Vice President specifically pointed to pro-life campaigners being arrested for silently praying near abortion clinics in the UK.

One such campaigner, 74-year-old grandmother Rose Docherty, who, just days after Vance’s speech, became the first person to be arrested under the so-called “buffer zone” law prohibiting protests outside of abortion clinics, expressed her thanks to the Trump administration.

“All I did was stand peacefully offering consensual conversation to anyone who wanted to take up my offer to talk. I didn’t break the law, I didn’t influence, I didn’t harass, I didn’t intimidate,” she said.

“This can’t be just. It’s heartening that others around the world, including the US government, have realised this injustice and voiced their support.”

Trump allies have also recently raised the case of 42-year-old English mother Lucy Connolly, who was sentenced to 31 months in prison over social media posts following the murder of three young girls at a Taylor Swift dance party in Southport by second-generation migrant Axel Rudakubana.

Reform UK leader and longtime Trump ally Nigel Farage remarked: “The Lucy Connolly case alone shows that two-tier Britain is really here. My American friends cannot believe what is happening in the UK.”

During a February meeting in the Oval Office, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer denied that his country has a problem with free speech, saying: “We’ve had free speech for a very, very long time in the United Kingdom, and it will last for a very, very long time.”

According to a report last month from The Times of London, British police arrest more than 30 people every day for supposedly offensive comments on the internet or other platforms, totalling around 12,000 arrests per year.

Multiculturalism

By Lars Møller

Eugène Delacroix, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons
From Wikimedia Commons: The Massacre at Chios (Eugène Delacroix, 1824)

A fundamental problem in the West is accelerated deculturation. It is as if we have lost touch with our own history and given up our very identity. Afraid of our own shadow, we insist on being open-minded and gullible. At least for the sake of appearances, the constant focus of modern-age leaders. However, we become all the more vulnerable to hostile claims about our sinfulness as Westerners and alleged debt to the rest of the world.

For years, the same progressives, who accuse the West of sins such as “racism, colonialism, and slavery”, have been praising “diversity” and “multiculturalism”.

In Western Europe, it was after the world wars, which nearly wiped out every trace of our common past, that democratic parties succeeded in building welfare societies with an unprecedented degree of prosperity and social security. What many overlook, however, is that the welfare society presupposes a culturally homogenous population to function. In any case, society loses its cohesion through the presence of conflicting population groups that actively work to dominate each other (cf. Lebanon).

Insofar as he is expected to make sacrifices, sharing his wealth with them, the average taxpayer must be able to identify with his fellow citizens. Another requirement is trust in the rule of law. Redistribution of wealth on a larger scale only meets with something like general approval in a high-trust society. In clan societies such as those, from which Europe’s immigrants originate, nobody expects impartiality and fairness from state institutions. On the contrary, man is taught from childhood to look after his own, whatever his position in society.

Whereas Western European countries originally represented rather homogeneous populations characterized by shared religious traditions (or moral principles rooted in those traditions), millions of immigrants from North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia have introduced cultures whose values are in conflict with Christian and humanist ones.

Nostalgics may fantasize about the multicultural empires of the past (e.g. Roman, Habsburg, and Russian). On a smaller scale, Yugoslavia embodied the multiethnic society. What the empires — and Yugoslavia — had in common was the unhesitant suppression of tensions between ethnic groups by a strong central power. As soon as this power crumbled, furious conflicts broke out, tearing communities apart.

The history of the Old World is essentially the story of the rise and fall of cultures. Typical of “millennial kingdoms”, whose records we study, is the belief that they cannot pass away but will endure forever. The same illusion exists today.

Superseding primeval urban societies (e.g. Mesopotamian, Egyptian, and Phoenician), the polytheistic Greco-Roman culture, fertilized by Judaism, became the birthplace of Christianity. In reversal of widespread persecution of Christians, their heresy became the official religion of the Roman Empire. At its peak, Christianity spread to the most distant provinces of the empire, displacing pagan customs.

All of this came to an abrupt and bloody end with the Islamic invasion from the Arabian Peninsula. To begin with, the enemy advance cost Christendom its lands in North Africa and the Levant, besides leading to the breakdown of the Sasanian Empire in the east. When Anatolia eventually fell to advancing Turks, Christendom had lost three-quarters of its original territory.

In past centuries, Christians have been brutally oppressed in countries where Muslims initially formed a dominant minority, following military conquest, but later became a majority. This transformation is due to various constellations of forced conversions, massacres, and expulsions of Christians — in addition to the high fertility of the conquerors.

Multiculturalism is not practiced in any civilized way in former Christian countries or, for that matter, in any other countries with a dominant Muslim population (majority or minority, as it may be). On the contrary, the “victim-oppressor” trend is the same everywhere. Christians are reduced to “second-class citizens”, legally disadvantaged and virtually defenseless in conflicts with Muslim “first-class citizens”. In the middle of the twentieth century, Christians were still subject to a special tax in “secular” Turkey.

It remains the case that Christians in Egypt and Pakistan must stay low so as not to provoke conflict with first-class citizens and risk kidnapping of daughters, murdering of sons, and looting or burning of property. In none of the Muslim-majority countries, there are freely elected assemblies with independent courts, incorruptible law enforcement officers, and a free press.

Showing the weight of change in Western Europe, Muslim immigrants are now in a position to exploit the rules of democracy to take over governance of urban areas. As their numbers increase, their self-confidence and demands on the surrounding society are growing. Thus, special consideration is expected for Islamic customs and religious prohibitions. A disturbing sign of where things are heading is the bold assumption that not only Muslims, but also Christians (or atheists), must comply with Sharia rules. It is like a foretaste of what will irrevocably await Westerners in a few decades.

Our Christian ancestors in the southern provinces of the Roman Empire never surrendered without a fight to the invading tribes from the Arabian Peninsula, but tried to adapt after the conquest.

The truly remarkable thing about Islamic expansion in our time is that the original citizens of Western Europe have long resigned themselves to the transformation of their society without offering any unequivocal resistance.

It appears as if Westerners have first been de-Christianized and then robbed of their history by the progressive elite. Left to fate without “faith” and “place in history”, they lack the concepts to articulate their longing for the pride of the past and their unwillingness to submit.

Consumerism has truly numbed our senses. As long as there is sports on TV and a car in the garage, we put our trust in the hope that everything will fix itself. Of course, it will not. However, it takes historical insight to know this.

The “democratic window” is closing. In Britain, once the pinnacle of Western civilization, freedom of expression for those who fear Islamic supremacy has been severely restricted. At the same time, authorities allow anti-Semitic demonstrations glorifying terrorism and death threats against Jews on the streets of the cities.

The transition from post-Christian to Islamic society is already underway.

Contrary to utopian fantasies, multiculturalism is in fact a purely transitional phenomenon. In the end, given the current migration rate, Islam becomes the only remaining faith, totally dominant and intolerant. And the rest of society will have to bow in the dust before the new masters. Those cursed by the imams will have to flee: pious Christians, Jews, homosexuals, etc.

Truth be told, we have behaved like happy idiots in the West. As if we have forgotten everything about who we ourselves are and who the Muslims are, we have invited our historical oppressors and tormentors into the remnants of the Christian Roman Empire and encouraged them to multiply and dominate us.

Should we really think that the “rules of the game” have changed in modern times, we are wrong. Oppression of non-Muslims is justified in the holy scriptures. And they are not subject to revision.

The progressives imagine that they may pass as “tolerant” role models, though fundamentally hypocritical and vain. By the same token, they consider themselves superior to those who doubt the benefits of mass immigration and are condescendingly labeled as “right-wing bigots”.

Unlike revolutionaries with a flair for tactical thinking, forming alliances with Islamists to destroy Western civilization, temporarily united by a common enemy, those with historical and cultural self-awareness are outraged by the tendency towards surrender. The profound changes sweeping our society resemble cultural suicide. Symbols of the familiar (e.g. churches and celebration of Christian holidays in schools) are being mocked and disappear one by one.

In Christianity, we stand for love towards our neighbor, whether he is a believer or a sinner. However, nothing in our faith obliges us to betray ourselves and submit to evil, whatever its form of manifestation. On the contrary, we must imitate our Savior, who died for us on the cross, and be courageous in the hour of danger — speak the truth and act justly.

Multiculturalism is a utopian illusion cultivated exclusively by the “ignorant”, the “stupid”, and the “evil” in the West.

Lights Out, Europe: The Cost of Brussels’ Energy Fantasy

Calle Rosalía de Castro in Vigo on the evening of April 28 Wikimedia Commons, Seoane Prado, CC-BY-SA-4.0

Spain’s leading energy companies—Iberdrola, Endesa, and EDP—remain stunned. After the nationwide blackout that cut power across Spain on April 28, the government has yet to provide a clear explanation or take technical responsibility. The companies, represented by the employers’ association Aelec, have denounced “surprising omissions” in the official investigation. They demand that the extreme voltage spikes recorded in the days leading up to the collapse be included in the analysis. They have criticized the preliminary report from ENTSO-E—the European network of electricity operators—for claiming that “the system was operating normally” just seconds before the failure. Meanwhile, severe voltage swings were recorded, going beyond safety limits and triggering automatic shutdowns of high-voltage substations and key refineries.

This episode is far more than an isolated incident. It is a metaphor for the erratic direction taken by the European Union’s energy policy. In the name of climate change, Brussels has embarked on a radical overhaul of its energy model driven not by technical or economic realities, but by an ideological agenda imposed by political and bureaucratic elites. What was marketed as a smooth transition toward renewable energy has turned into a forced green agenda, with no viable alternatives and little regard for its impact on competitiveness, system stability, or citizens’ well-being.

At the root of this drift lies the REPowerEU plan, launched after the start of the war in Ukraine with the stated aim of “fully decoupling” Europe from Russian energy. What initially appeared to be a justified geostrategic measure quickly became, in the hands of the European Commission, a pretext to push through renewable energies at any cost. This led to a rushed and uneven transition, with citizens and businesses footing the bill.

This leap into the void has destabilized key sectors such as agriculture, transport, and industry, forcing them to absorb rising costs without receiving real technological upgrades. Countries like Germany, which shut down their nuclear plants out of political conviction, have now had to reopen coal-fired stations in a contradictory reversal. Meanwhile, state propaganda continues to promote green energy self-sufficiency, while households face record electricity bills and companies lose competitiveness.

The structural failures of the European power grid are becoming increasingly evident. The continental grid was designed for stable and predictable hydro, gas, and nuclear sources. The mass introduction of intermittent sources like wind and solar makes imbalances difficult to manage: without wind or sun, generation collapses; with too much, the grid becomes dangerously overloaded.

On April 28th, the Iberian Peninsula experienced those consequences firsthand. Abnormal voltage levels were detected in several substations throughout the morning. To grasp the gravity: a “voltage oscillation” involves a sudden and significant fluctuation in the grid’s voltage, which can damage equipment, trigger automatic disconnections, or, in extreme cases, cause a total blackout. At the Lancha substation, voltage reached nearly 250 kV on a line rated for 220. Another line, rated at 400 kV, surpassed 470 kV just before the collapse. According to Aelec, these anomalies began as early as 10:00 a.m. While a sudden drop of 2,200 MW in generation has been cited as the trigger, the system is theoretically built to withstand a loss of up to 3,000 MW without shutting down. This was not a coincidental failure—it was a built-in weakness.

Beyond technical and political issues, the forced energy transition takes a human toll. European households are paying more for electricity, hitting middle- and lower-income families especially hard. Electrification of transport, promoted without adequate foresight, is raising the cost of mobility due to a lack of reliable charging infrastructure. Farmers and truckers, already squeezed by unmanageable climate regulations, face growing expenses while being pressured to make investments they cannot afford.

Moreover, blackouts are no minor issue: their impact ranges from multimillion-euro industrial losses to the paralysis of hospitals, schools, and transport networks. In Spain, the outage even cost five people their lives. An energy model that cannot ensure a steady supply threatens the economy and public safety.

European industry, particularly in the central and southern parts of the continent, is already bearing the brunt. Unable to compete with American or Asian energy prices, many companies are relocating production or shutting down. Paradoxically, even sectors the green agenda promotes, such as electric vehicles, are faltering. Once-dominant car industries in Germany and France are struggling to stay afloat in an increasingly competitive global market. While Europe imposes ideological standards, China manufactures more, better, and cheaper. Deindustrialization is no longer a threat—it’s a fact. Notably, some factions on the Left even embrace “degrowth”—deliberate economic decline—as a desirable path.

Worse still, despite all these sacrifices, Europe continues to import Russian energy—now via third countries—and remains vulnerable to geopolitical pressure. The promise of energy independence often rings hollow.

The Green Deal has morphed from a promise of modernization into a political myth: a story no longer grounded in reality, propped up by propaganda that refuses to confront its contradictions. The public, increasingly aware of the real costs, is beginning to push back. The farmers’ resistance in the Netherlands gave rise to a political party now part of the ruling coalition. In other countries, protests and citizen discontent are multiplying. And this is only the beginning. This very week, farmers returned to Brussels to protest the suffocating policies they face.

An energy transition is not inherently harmful, but cannot be imposed dogmatically. It requires realism, technological pluralism, gradual implementation, and a willingness to adopt what works. Nuclear, hydro, and natural gas must be part of the energy mix while green technologies mature. Sustainability will not be achieved by denying physics or punishing citizens, but by integrating every available tool with a long-term vision.

What happened in Spain is a symptom, not an accident. Europe’s current energy model is not equipped to operate under the conditions imposed by Brussels. There is an urgent need to rethink energy policy—not through ideology, but through engineering, economics, and common sense. If the energy transition is to be our path forward, let it be pursued with caution, technological plurality, and respect for the system’s real limitations. Europe cannot afford to stumble in the dark in the name of a green light; it still does not know how to switch on.

Sweden to Investigate ‘Islamist Infiltration’ After Bombshell French Report on Muslim Brotherhood

The Swedish government has announced an investigation into the “Islamist infiltration” in the country following the publication of the bombshell French report claiming that the Muslim Brotherhood has waged a decades-long campaign to penetrate European institutions with the aim of subverting the West and imposing Sharia law.

A French intelligence report published this week by the Ministry of Interior warned of Islamist fifth columns embedded across Europe, with EU institutions, Muslim associations, and migrant communities all falling prey to a vast network of sworn Muslim Brotherhood members operating in plain sight, often using Western liberal values to veil their nefarious aims in a shroud of legitimacy.

While the report focused heavily on the Brotherhood’s activities in France and the EU, the Paris intel identified numerous other countries throughout Europe, including Austria, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

The report also said that “evidence collected attests to the active presence of the movement” in Northern European countries like Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

Following its publication, Swedish Minister for Integration Mats Persson said: “I will convene an expert group to get a picture of the situation of Islamist infiltration in Sweden. This is against the background of what has emerged in France.”

“Sweden is mentioned in the French report and in many respects has similar challenges to France in terms of integration and counteracting parallel social structures that challenge liberal democracy,” he added.

Persson went on to say that the government will “strangle foreign funding of religious communities, where states fund radical mosques” to push back against “these Islamist and undemocratic forces.”

According to the French report, Sweden “hosts an active branch of the movement which, in addition to its small size, is characterised by its influence on European movement structures.”

The Muslim Brotherhood’s operation in Sweden accomplished this influence with the backing of money from Qatar, Paris claimed.

Additionally, Sweden appears to have been an easy target for the Islamist movement given the Nordic nation’s “great tolerance of multiculturalism,” the report found.

The French government investigation also alleged that the Muslim Brotherhood took advantage of “good relations” with local political parties, particularly the Swedish Social Democratic Party, the traditional party of government in Stockholm, which oversaw the vast majority of recent mass migration into the country.

Social Democrats Party Secretary Tobias Baudin said that the report “does not elaborate” on the alleged ties between his left-wing party and the Muslim Brotherhood, but said: “We have zero tolerance for association with extremist organisations. That line is crystal clear in our party.”

However, some have noted that just last year, the leftist party was forced to expel one of its members of parliament, Jamal El-Haj, over his alleged ties to Hamas and for reportedly attempting to lobby the Swedish Migration Agency on behalf of a Muslim Brotherhood-linked Imam to remain in the country.

“Jamal El-Haj is no longer a member of our party. It is because we are clear: There should be no interaction with extremist organisations,” Baudin said.
