The alleged US abandonment of the blockade of the German-Russian pipeline project Nord Stream 2 will come at a price. And it is a particularly high price demanded by the Biden regime in Washington: Germany, an exporting nation, must become involved in the US economic war against China, which could also result in a military conflict.
The American leadership leaves no doubt that they absolutely want to defend their global economic and military supremacy in the world against China, and this effort should by no means be underestimated. The US, in terms of population and educational potential, is struggling to keep up with China and it can only prevent or at least delay a future crash if it succeeds in stopping China’s ambitious rise to become the new world power.
The Americans know that this means that they have to neutralize or destabilize Russia if possible and Germany’s economic supremacy is a handy arrow in its quiver. But for Germany, a country extremely dependent on the export of its quality goods, this is associated with an almost insoluble dilemma: The dependence of a number of economic sectors, especially the automotive industry, on the huge Chinese market has long been too great to even be reduced without causing enormous damage.
Any government in Berlin will therefore continue to try to navigate between American interests and China’s increased self-confidence. In the long run, probably soon, this will no longer work. Merkel’s weak economics minister Peter Altmaier may say that the Europeans would like to take the “outstretched hand” of the Biden regime, but there are very different interests that the EU would like to pursue in relation to China.
It is all the more important for Washington to control Germany, a country which is easily blackmailed because of its excessive export orientation and energy problems, unchecked immigration and military policies. Shortly after the US presidential election in November 2020, US strategists clearly stated what they expect from Germany. This was documented on November 26, 2020 in a text by Ben Hodges, the former commander in chief of the American land forces in Europe, in the FAZ.
The retired Lieutenant General did not mince his words: “Germany should take a more realistic and consistent approach in dealing with China and Russia, instead of sacrificing democratic principles and security interests of the West for German economic interests, as in the case of Nord Stream 2.” Hodges even threatened Germany with military consequences. His intervention concluded with an undisguised command: “In short, President Biden will expect Germany to be not only the most important but also the strongest ally for the United States in the future.”
It is thus clear that the Biden regime would also like to make the USA great again – the fundamental difference to Trump, however, is that it will be primarily at the expense of Germany and the Germans. Beijing will certainly not hesitate too long to confront Berlin with a counter-strategy.
