The centre-left state government of North Rhine-Westphalia is taking another step towards capitulation in the face of mass Muslim migration. In a joint motion in the state parliament, the CDU and the Greens want to introduce ‘multilingualism throughout the entire school career’. The promotion of multilingualism as a means of developing skills must be considered ‘an integral part of the educational path’ from primary school to secondary school, and multilingualism must be given greater consideration in the curriculum. North Rhine-Westphalia is already a state of diversity and active multilingualism. Around a third of the population has an immigration background, and according to the 2022 microcensus, one in two people speak at least one other language besides German at home.
In schools, too, around 44 per cent of pupils have an immigrant background. Teaching should therefore be adapted to the ‘realities of life and current needs’ of pupils and their families. In future, it should also be possible to assess subject-specific skills appropriately even if a child has insufficient knowledge of German. In addition, the upper school reform could provide an opportunity to offer and recognise classes in the first language or to open them up to pupils who are learning this language as a foreign language. Multilingualism must, of course, be promoted and developed in teacher training. Last week, the school committee commissioned an expert hearing on the subject.
Behind all this pompous verbiage lies nothing more than the abandonment of German as the language that everyone living in this country must master. Euphemistic phrases such as ‘international biography’ of the pupils mean nothing more than that German children are increasingly becoming a minority and that Muslim pupils in particular are neither willing nor able to learn the German language, especially since they see no reason to do so in view of demographic developments, when 80 per cent or more of a class do not speak German.
The much-vaunted multilingualism is not about a particularly large number of children speaking English, French or Spanish, but almost exclusively about Arabic and, at most, Turkish.
The state is capitulating to the masses of foreign-language migrants who are unwilling to integrate, millions of whom it imported itself. Germans are becoming a minority in their own country, and in schools this Babylonian confusion of languages is even to be celebrated as an asset and a virtue. What’s more, this means that German children are no longer learning their mother tongue properly, because it is now only a marginal phenomenon in the international multicultural paradise, even though the government of CDU Minister-President Hendrik Wüst is trying to gloss over this de facto surrender. Instead of working to ensure that all children speak the language of this country, everyone should be able to speak and write whatever they like, and schools should encourage this benevolently. In the end, no pupil will have a proper command of any language. Here, too, the system is adapting to the deficits of immigrants and cheating them, and above all German children, out of the most basic foundations of a successful life, for which language is the be-all and end-all. Once again, politicians are committing a flagrant sin against the future of this country, whose demise is being sealed at all levels.
