The students go French in Spain

The so-called students are busy in Spain. What started over “school supplies” in Paris has now gone continental — Europe, that is. Over the weekend, we saw Paris in Barcelona — radical demonstrations, that is. Let’s check out the latest from Spain:

Riots and looting spread to Barcelona, Spain, on Saturday evening as local youths sought to imitate the unrest seen in France and other European nations in recent weeks, apparently motivated by little more than a desire to cause destruction and loot stores.

Hundreds of mostly young, hooded teenagers dressed in black descended upon the city centre of Barcelona on Saturday afternoon, destroying street furniture, clashing with police, and looting shops, the local Vanguardia newspaper reported.

Hooded teenagers dressed in black clashing with police? That’s sweet.

My first question, who is paying for this? Who is feeding them? Who bought the face masks and so on? It’s clear to me that someone is paying for all of this.

Another issue driving these protests in Spain could be youth unemployment, one of the unintended consequences of misguided labor policies. This is huge:

Spain’s youth unemployment rate is 22.7% as of August 2026, from official Eurostat data. It fell from 22.8% the previous month. Over the period shown it has ranged from 22.7% to 43.3%. That is 7.7 percentage points above the euro-area average of 15.0% — the 3rd of 21 member states that report it.

I’m not saying that they are throwing bricks at store windows because they’re uinemployed. At the same time, one cannot deny that such high unemployment is going to make a lot of people miserable. They may listen to the socialists lie about capitalism if the economy is not employing them.

Another weekend in Europe, and I don’t mean touring historic sites.
