According to information from the newspaper France Bleu, a violent brawl broke out between 20 to 30 youths in Jullouville (Manche) between the seafront and the town centre at around 1am on Wednesday night. According to Mayor Alain Brière, the gendarmes who were called in were ‘shot at with bullets’, although this has not yet been formally established. The rear window of a gendarmerie vehicle was smashed, as were the windows of a restaurant and doors.
The mayor speaks of a completely new situation for the normally “ peaceful and familiar” seaside resort. The police have requested the images from the municipality’s 14 video surveillance cameras. They are currently being evaluated. An investigation is being launched.
