On Monday, September 30, at around 8.45 am, a fire broke out at a barricade set up by pupils blocking the ‘Jean-Geiler-de-Kaysersberg’ grammar school in Strasbourg. This barricade had been erected against the façade of the Church of Sainte-Madeleine.
In the videos posted by witnesses on social media, the fire appears to have been extinguished before it spread to the church. Only the façade appears to have been damaged.
