Uproar in Bad Ischl! The trigger is a landlord known for his funny sayings. His text about people who eat pork is explosive. And in the eyes of some, it went too far in view of the already tense political climate. Others agree with the pub owner.
A plaque outside his restaurant reads: “Statistically speaking, people who eat pork are less likely to blow themselves and others up”. A provocation that is of course mainly aimed at Muslims. There is already a great deal of excitement about this on the internet, where images of the slogan are spreading rapidly. Some people there feel “deeply disappointed and offended”, while others see it as “pure racism”.
In a free newspaper, one reader, who is even said to have lost his breath when reading the text, called for “messages of peace”, as the situation was already very tense anyway.
However, opinions are not quite as clear-cut as the reporters would like to convey. A look at the comment columns clearly shows that the landlord is also getting a lot of support. “It’s a bit harsh, but unfortunately true,” says one user on Facebook. “Sometimes the plain truth hurts,” writes another. “He’s absolutely right,” is the response from many.
