According to a new Insa poll conducted for the Bild newspaper, the gap between the AfD and the two Union parties has widened to a new record high. If a federal election were held this coming Sunday, the AfD would still receive 28 per cent of the vote. The CDU and CSU would receive 23 per cent, a drop of one percentage point compared with the previous week.
The SPD has lost the same amount of support and now has 13 percent. The Greens and the Left Party have maintained their results at 13 and 11 percent respectively. The BSW and the FDP, with three percent each, would still not be represented in the Bundestag.
Together, the CDU/CSU and the SPD now only account for 36 per cent. However, a majority in parliament would require around 45 per cent. The AfD and the CDU/CSU, on the other hand, would secure a clear majority with 51 per cent. The CDU and CSU, however, categorically rule out a coalition with the party led by Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla.
