A distressing incident unfolded at the municipal swimming pool on WrocƂawska Street in Bytom on Saturday, 15 July, around 5 pm, as a group of individuals was reportedly involved in an altercation with several male foreigners. According to police reports, the group was accused of displaying socially unacceptable behavior towards minors, which has sparked outrage among local residents.

Commander Anna Lenkiewicz from the Bytom City Police Station confirmed that they received a report of inappropriate conduct by the group towards underage children, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. The detainees, identified as four Georgians, were allegedly involved in an assault on the children, with one of them being approximately 50 years old.

The situation quickly escalated as residents attempted to take matters into their own hands and retaliate against the suspects. However, the police intervened, preventing any further escalation of aggression. During the confrontation, gas was used by the officers to disperse the crowd.

As a result of the incident, the police detained four individuals suspected of engaging in pedophilic behavior. The suspects’ ages range from 18 to 48, and they are reportedly foreigners.

Commander Lenkiewicz mentioned that investigations are ongoing, and they are working closely with the prosecutor’s office to determine the appropriate charges for the detainees.

The Bytom city council also responded to the incident, revealing that security guards stationed at the swimming pool received two reports. The first report came from two boys who claimed to have been accosted by an approximately 50-year-old man, while the second report was from the mother of a girl using the pool. The girl informed her mother about an unsettling encounter with one of the suspects.

In response to the reports, the vigilant security guards immediately intervened and escorted the suspects out of the pool area before contacting the police.

All four detained men are Georgian nationals, ranging in age from 18 to 55. Police have secured CCTV footage from the pool area to aid in their investigation.

The incident has raised concerns among the local community, highlighting the importance of ensuring the safety and security of children in public places. Authorities are urging witnesses to come forward with any additional information that may assist in the investigation.
