Orban calls EU’s bluff on migrant quotas

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán (Fidesz) has offered illegal migrants open corridors through his country into the EU. “If they are good for you, take them,” he said on Hungarian state radio.

According to the head of government, around 90 000 illegal foreigners currently want to cross the border into Hungary. His country is currently still preventing their crossing and protecting both Germany and Austria, which otherwise would have to reckon with a high number of immigrants.

Orbán also criticized the EU’s refusal to support East Central European countries such as Hungary and Poland, which are currently expanding their border fortifications to withstand the flow of migrants. The countries that defend the borders for the EU cannot count on any support. At the same time, however, Brussels is ready to spend huge sums of money on climate protection, he added.

Meanwhile, the migratory pressure from Belarus continues. The Federal Police Directorate in Berlin alone registered 199 illegal entries across the German-Polish border in Brandenburg in the first three days of November. Most of the migrants who came to Germany from Belarus via Poland came from Syria, Yemen and Iran.
