Last Wednesday at 3:30 pm, a man of Arab appearance entered a butcher’s shop in Wuppertal, took a knife and stormed into the street. There he attacked a 32-year-old man while shouting “Allahu Akbar” according to witnesses, reports the newspaper Bild.
The victim was slightly injured. The perpetrator was shot and injured by police at the scene. According to information from newspaper Aftonbladet, the man is in his forties, a Tunisian citizen and has lived in Sweden for several years. He is registered in the Stockholm area and has a permanent residence permit.
He has previously been convicted in Sweden for drug and doping offenses, among other things. The German police are now investigating on suspicion of a terrorist offense. They are currently trying to establish why the man was in Germany at the time and what led to the crime. So far, there is nothing to suggest that the knife-wielding man deliberately attacked his victim. The investigating authorities have not yet been able or willing to reveal whether the perpetrator was under the influence of drugs when he committed the crime.
