A case that is representative of the ongoing Islamization of the Netherlands has exposed the Dutch tolerance for Islamic extremists, argues Paul Cliteur, a distinguished law professor in the Netherlands from Leiden University and a defence witness for Geert Wilders when Wilders was on trial for “hate speech”.
In the conservative Dutch daily Dagelijkse Standaard, Cliteur addresses a recent controversy over the remarks and activism of Moussa Lghoul, also known as Moussa L. or Abou Ilias, a self-proclaimed jihadist in the Netherlands. Cliteur wonders why people like Lghoul cannot be deported.
“It is a big mystery why dangerous jihadists are not deported from the Netherlands,” the Leiden professor said and added that his “patience was running out” with the soft policy toward terrorists who are dangerous to the state, and who cannot be deported. He goes further: “The Dutch system of justice, our government, the country, has been endlessly patient.”
The Hague jihadist, Moussa L. [Lghou] had wanted to take action in the terror section of the Rotterdam prison because nine years’ imprisonment was demanded against two men for preparing a terrorist attack, according to Wout Willemsen, journalist of the Dagelijkdse Standaard.
Moussa had announced that he wanted to die as a martyr and that his “patience was running out” with the Dutch, De Telegraaf reported. According to a terrorism expert, Moussa L. appears to be on the brink of organising a terrorist attack. “I have been following jihadist Abu Ilias and his entourage on social media for quite some time,” Flemish expert on radical Islam Peter Velle told De Telegraaf. “They are really dangerous. He has many sympathizers in Antwerp, among other places. A new Sharia class has arisen among us.”
Geert Wilders tweeted in response that he had a solution for the problem: Kick Moussa L. out of the country.
Cliteur pointed out that Moussa’s expressed lack of patience contained a message that the jihadist thought he had not gained enough recognition. Therefore “his patience was running out”. Part of the problem however is that too many people, especially people in The Hague, think that somehow, Moussa has legitimate claims even though they condemn terrorism.
This is evident from the reaction after the statement by Wilders that Moussa must be deported from the country. His suggestion has met with no enthusiasm. In fact, as Cliteur pointed out, Wilders is being attacked in the mainstream media because he suggested that the jihadist must be deported.
Sigrid Kaag, the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, even denounced Wilders as an enemy of democracy: “Another poisonous attack by Wilders on the press. This is an attack on all of us. And on our freedoms. More than ever, we need to protect them. We owe that to our democracy.”
And that is why the attacks will continue, concluded Cliteur. The legal expert is a member of the Dutch political party Forum voor Democratie, where he is chairman of the advisory board and the party’s official think tank. In 2019 he was elected to be parliamentary group leader for Forum voor Democratie in the Dutch Senate
This week Wilders tweeted a photo of at least a hundred jihadist death threats against him currently being processed by the police.
