The Pentagon leaks – reported by eXXpress – have now revealed what US intelligence services know about the terror plans of Muslim terrorists: There are concrete threats of attacks on our churches and shopping centres in Europe, 15 such plans would exist.
Vienna, on the night of November 2, 2020: In front of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, transverse police cars barricaded the main gate, behind them Cobra officers and police officers stood ready to shoot with their assault rifles – already two and a half years ago, when an Islamist committed a bloody serial murder in Vienna’s city centre, the executive branch anticipated an additional attack on our churches.
Now this threat is once again acute – this can be seen from the numerous documents that have now come to public attention with the Pentagon leaks: according to the Washington Post, Pentagon employees are said to have known in December of nine such plans being planned by IS leaders in Afghanistan. By February, the number had risen to 15.
The considerations of the Muslim attackers are known to be quite concrete: According to this document, the targets of the planned attacks are currently churches, shopping centres and embassies.
“IS has developed a cost-effective model for external operations that relies on deployments outside Afghanistan, operatives in target countries and extensive networks of intermediaries,” the Washington Post quotes from the assessment, which is classified as top secret. As the newspaper continues, the findings from Afghanistan represent one facet of a complex and evolving terrorist threat.
And: The document is not the only one of the Pentagon leaks dealing with the Islamic State. Other reports already revealed the terrorist group’s ongoing efforts to gain expertise in the production of chemical weapons and also in the operation of drones.
That the Austrian executive might also have indications of a possible new wave of terror is also shown by the large-scale alert just over a month ago: on March 15, special police units raced into Vienna’s city centre and once again secured the churches and synagogue in the city centre with dozens of heavily armed personnel. This “heightened security level” remained in place for several days. Security experts assume that a concrete warning from a friendly intelligence service in the Ministry of the Interior must have arrived beforehand – perhaps this intelligence service knew about the Pentagon leaks earlier than the world public.
