Germany: Two Syrian Islamists plotted an attack with explosives on churchgoers to avenge Qur’an burnings

According to the indictment, they had a murderous plan! A pair of Syrian brothers from Hamburg and Kempten (Bavaria) wanted to kill many people in an attack with explosives. The crime scene was to be a church in Sweden. Now the Hamburg Public Prosecutor’s Office has brought charges.

The charge against Anas K. (29) from Hamburg: attempted membership in a terrorist organisation abroad, preparation of a serious act of violence endangering the state and financing of terrorism.

The charge against his brother Ahmad K. (24) is: probable cause for supporting a terrorist organisation abroad and aiding and abetting the financing of terrorism.
According to the Hamburg Public Prosecutor’s Office, Anas K. is alleged to have plotted a radical Islamist-motivated explosive attack since spring 2023, the aim of which was to kill and injure a large number of people.

On April 14, 2023, Anas K. allegedly told an unidentified member of the “IS”-affiliated Al-Saqri Institute for War Sciences, who called himself “Emir”, about his plans to carry out the attack in a church in Sweden, where many visitors had gathered. He wanted to react violently to the Quran burnings in Sweden.
On April 25 at 6 a.m., heavily armed elite police officers of the Federal Police stormed a mezzanine flat on Bremer Reihe in Hamburg’s St. Georg district and arrested Anas K.!

At the same time, the raid took place in an apartment building in Kempten: there, investigators arrested the brother.
