In Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, two men have been taken into custody following investigations by the State Protection Service responsible for political offences. According to the police, the men were a 17-year-old German-Afghan and a 21-year-old German-Algerian. According to a police spokesperson, the two men were taken into custody after a threat assessment. They were to be brought before a magistrate on Saturday.
The newspaper “Hamburger Abendblatt” had reported the story first. According to the paper, the investigation is related to Islamism. The men are said to belong to the corresponding scene and the arrest in Hamburg took place in a Muslim cultural association. This has not yet been confirmed by the authorities. The newspaper also speculates about a connection with the 20th anniversary of September 11 – without, however, giving further details.
According to the police, the 17-year-old was arrested in the Hausbruch district of Hamburg, the 21-year-old in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The older man was then brought to Hamburg at his own request. According to the police, the investigation is still ongoing.
