Germany: Syrian stabs woman on motorway

The police officers assumed they were on their way to a traffic accident. But then they find a woman’s body with numerous wounds on the motorway!

At 6.09 a.m. on Saturday, patrol cars are alerted to the motorway in the direction of Hamburg. Shortly before the Schuby exit, between Flensburg and Schleswig, a silver Suzuki with Berlin licence plates is parked on the hard shoulder. A 31-year-old woman is lying lifeless on the asphalt in front of it. Her husband is standing a few metres away with his hands covered in blood. The 33-year-old was arrested without resistance.

The investigation by the homicide squad on Sunday revealed the inconceivable.

Senior public prosecutor Inke Dellius: “The man is strongly suspected (…) of having stopped on the hard shoulder and stabbed his wife several times with a knife in the area of the neck, neck and back.”

The seriously injured woman apparently tried to flee. But then a truck suddenly sped up on the motorway. It hit the woman and ran her over.

The senior public prosecutor: “According to the assessment of the accident investigator who was called in, the lorry driver may not have noticed that he had hit the injured woman.Investigators are not commenting on the motive at this time. The husband was admitted to a psychiatric hospital on suspicion of manslaughter. The husband and wife are both Syrians and officially registered in Denmark. It is not yet clear why they were travelling in a car that had Berlin licence plates.
