They wanted to commemorate in silence. But then they became victims of a vicious attack by anti-Semites.
On Sunday, 15 people gathered in Friedrich Ebert Park in Lahr (Baden-Württemberg), many carrying Israeli flags. On this day 87 years ago ( November 9, 1938), the Nazis organized a nationwide campaign of violence against Jews, torching synagogues, destroying shops and deporting thousands of people.
A police spokesperson said: ‘The people had gathered at around 4.30 p.m. to commemorate and pray together.’ Videos show the participants – including many elderly people and a child – singing a song. Suddenly, a man appears with a Palestinian flag, grinning provocatively and shouting ‘Free Palestine’. Other men follow. They disrupt the commemoration, shouting hate slogans against Israel.

Then the situation escalates: a man in a black Adidas tracksuit snatches the Israeli flag from a participant’s hand and runs away. According to the police, he then attempted to ‘set it on fire’.
A suspect is apprehended shortly afterwards. He is 17 years old and a Syrian refugee. He is accused of stealing the flag. A 32-year-old man is also taken into custody. According to police, he is stateless and also a refugee from the Arab region. The BILD newspaper has learned that both suspects are known to the police, but not for any relevant offences.
Restaurateur Bilal Aloge (50) happened to be there and spontaneously joined the memorial service. He told BILD: ‘It was terrible. The whole time we were being called “sons of bitches” and people were constantly shouting “Death to Israel”. I estimate there were around 20 young men causing trouble. It was very threatening, we were afraid.’
How there ever will/could be peace, with such sickening fanatic people ?
