France: The killers wore burkas – In Toulouse, the two main accused are sentenced to life imprisonment

The shooting had killed one person and injured a dozen on July 3, 2017. The district court of Haute-Garonne ruled today. On Thursday September 23, it sentenced six men for the “burqa” murder committed four years earlier in Toulouse, reports La Dépêche du Midi. Two of them, Walid Derqaoui and Abdelkader Ramdani, were sentenced to life in prison. They are accused of murdering a man killed by a shot from a Kalashnikov while one of the shooters was wearing a niqab.

Four other people, called ” the henchmen” by the prosecution and whose statements are quoted by our journalistic colleagues, were convicted of complicity. They were sentenced to prison terms of between eight and 25 years and are accused in particular of having supplied the shooters with weapons and logistical support.A seventh person was acquitted, according to the local daily. He was accused of harbouring his cousin Walid Derqaoui and three of his friends during a stay in Lyon a week before the shooting. It was at this time that Abdelkader Ramdani was allegedly recruited. However, charges against the landlord, who is suspected of belonging to a criminal organisation, have been withdrawn. “A long legal battle has paid off,” said his lawyer, Maître Axelle Chorier, quoted by La Dépêche du Midi. “The man spent twenty months in pre-trial detention and then twenty months under judicial supervision. It was time for the justice system to realise that he was unaware of anything.”
