A 24-year-old Moroccan national, who is homeless and undocumented, was arrested by French police and charged with raping a 12-year-old child and sexually assaulting a young adult in the village of Moissac in southern France on June 13 and 20.
According to the Montauban public prosecutor, “The presumed perpetrator was identified following an investigation into a complaint by a 12-year-old girl from Moissac who had been raped in a squat near the railway station on June 13.”
The victim told police she had been taken to a squat known to the homeless in Moissac, where she was forcibly subjected to anal penetration by the suspect, according to French newspaper La Dépêche. The young victim has since undergone a gynecological examination and DNA samples were taken. The latter are currently being analyzed. The suspect was subject to a deportation order to leave the territory of France, but as in many similar cases in France, it was never enforced.
Due to the evidence obtained in the case, it was sufficient for the public prosecutor to request the opening of a judicial investigation. On June 23, Otham M. was taken to the courthouse and charged with rape and sexual assault.
At the end of the homeless man’s first appearance in court, the examining magistrate called for him to be remanded in custody.
French President Emmanuel Macron admitted last year that half of all crimes in Paris are committed by foreigners; however, experts believe that this number is actually two-thirds of all crimes.
