France: Iranian refugee watched videos of executions in a public building

An Iranian migrant was arrested and taken into police custody on Tuesday morning 22 August by police officers of the Sûreté départementale in Montgermont in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine, where he lives, for publicly glorifying a terrorist act committed by means of an internet service, police sources told Valeurs actuelles.

On August 18, Maziar A. K., who was awaiting an appointment with the French Office for Immigration and Integration (OFII) at the prefecture in Rennes, had taken the opportunity to watch execution videos on a publicly accessible computer. The 31-year-old suspect, who was born in Bandar-e Anzali in Iran, was released after being held in police custody.

At the request of Valeurs actuelles, the Rennes prosecutor’s office said that the suspect “denies the facts” and that “investigations are continuing, in particular with regard to the computer, to verify the content of the images actually viewed and their possible use by him”. His legal situation is not precisely known.
