On Thursday October 12, 2023, at around 10 am, a man was arrested in a street in the first arrondissement of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône). The police were called to the crime scene because the man was suspected of making threatening remarks and shouting. These facts were reported by Valeurs Actuelles on X (formerly Twitter) and confirmed by a police source to Actu Marseille.
In particular, the suspect is said to have shouted that he belonged to Hamas, that he wanted to “rape” women and children and that he wanted to kill “everyone”, our colleagues report at length. After his arrest, he was taken into police custody. The decision to extend his detention was made the next day, Friday morning, according to the Marseille prosecutor’s office reported by Actu. The latter also confirmed to the news site that an investigation had been launched.
The man’s arrest came after the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas, which he allegedly referred to in his threats.
Israel said it was preparing a ground attack on Hamas after the terrorist organisation’s attack from Saturday October 7 killed more than 1400 people in the country and more than 2700 people in Gaza.
In Marseille, a banned pro-Palestinian demonstration took place at the Old Port on Tuesday and the police imposed fines, Actu points out.
