A family dispute escalates. On Sunday, June 4, an international soccer player with French-Algerian nationality was arrested by police in the Yvelines department for allegedly choking his sister, reports Le Parisien. Police intervened at the home of the footballer’s parents in Maurepas at around 6:45 p.m. on Sunday evening. Between the man and his 15-year-old sister there had been an argument for reasons unknown so far. The athlete allegedly choked his sister. The police, called by the parents to stop the violence, found reddened marks on the girl’s neck and scratches on her arms.

The victim’s brother was reportedly arrested and taken into custody for attempted murder at Élancourt police station to prevent any escape attempts. The national player reportedly made nineteen appearances for the Algerian national team since 2013. He trained at Trappes and Paris Saint-Germain and played for Olympique Lyonnais, then Italy and Germany before finishing his career in Qatar with Al-Gharafa SC.

Despite a request from police, his younger sister has yet to press charges. The soccer player is being questioned by investigators in police custody, and the Versailles prosecutor’s office has 48 hours to decide what action to take.
