Conor McGregor has launched an astonishing attack on allowing immigrants to vote on his ‘X’ account declaring: “Ireland, we are at war”.
In a series of messages posted on his feed he adds: “Do not let any Irish property be took over (sic) unannounced. Evaporate (sic) said property. It’s a war.”
It follows earlier messages where he retweeted a comment by conservative news website Gript, which criticised Taoiseach Leo Varadkar for stating “everyone resident in Ireland can vote in Local Elections, regardless of nationality or visa status”.
Retweeting the Gript comment that offers “three reasons why allowing migrants to vote is ludicrous”, McGregor storms: “Imagine a mega power nation allowing this absolute foolishness!!
“Imagine the United States! This is the most preposterous, ridiculous, scheming attempt at gaining votes this government has attempted yet.
“A real showing of the lack of care they have for the common Irish citizen. As it stands they do not have my vote. Shame on them!”
He then adds: “US allows non residents to vote? Visitors can vote? I can fly in now and register a vote in the United States elections? Surely not. However, Ireland’s current government is proposing this.
“A disgrace! A shame! Hang their heads in shame!”
He then adds the hashtags #ForAshling #ForIreland.
His comments have attracted thousands of replies with many appearing to support McGregor with one writing: “Conor, Completely agree with you brother. Your country is at war meaning YOU are at war. The same can be said all around Europe unfortunately.”
However, others appear to be confused by McGregor’s declaration with one asking: “Over what bud?”
Another asks with “With who? What did I miss?” while another urges: “Let’s keep it Civil”.
Others ask: “What ??? What war in Ireland?” and “War? But with whom?
In December last year, it was reported how McGregor had backed the East Wall protesters who had been staging large demonstrations over the housing of around 400 asylum seekers in an old ESB building in the area.
Local TD Gary Gannon had claimed the protests were “hijacked” by a number of far-right groups but asked about the protests in a Twitter Q&A, the UFC star said: “I stand with the people of East Wall. And no I do not want to be a politician. Just that they have to answer to me.”
McGregor also said he found outgoing Taoiseach Micheál Martin “likeable”, but he criticised Leo Varadkar.
“My input is I have no issue with Michael [sic] Martin. I feel he is as likeable as it comes in the space. Varadkar, different. He should not be stepping in to lead our country.”
It is not the first time the UFC star has waded into the debate surrounding immigration into Ireland,
He recently launched a tirade against the Government in the wake of the conviction of Josef Puska for the murder of Ashling Murphy in which he threatens “a war”.
Taking to his X account, McGregor linked his comments to an Irish Independent story relating to Ashling’s boyfriend Ryan Casey’s victim impact statement.
He then launches into a furious attack on the Government and Puska, who he describes as a “f**king despicable, scruffy, waste of oxygen c**t”.
“Horrific this whole situation has been,” McGregor stormed. “Shame on the Irish government for harbouring this.”
He adds in capital letters: “THIS IS YOUR FAULT AND WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!”
He then adds: “Despicable system! The Irish government makes me ashamed to be Irish. We are appalled with you all! You can’t fix this, no problem it is a war then and God is with us!!”
He then adds a bomb and gun emoji alongside an Irish flag and #ForAshling #ForIreland hashtags.
The Notorious then added in a follow up tweet: “Torture and Death to Josef Puska and all on the side of this vermin.”
