Biden Voters More Likely Than Trump Voters to Deny Holocaust – Antisemitism is a diversity problem

Another poll that buries the lede.

Most Americans believe there has been an increase in hate crimes in the U.S., and many think that antisemitism is a serious problem. Few American adults agree with extreme statements such as “the Holocaust is a myth,” but those who do are most likely to be under the age of 30.

It takes a while until the YouGov/Economist poll actually asks respondents if they agree with certain ideas such as, “The Holocaust is a myth”. (The poll lists this as a question about Israel for some reason.)

The vast majority of people don’t agree with it, but those who do are more likely to be liberals than conservatives (3% vs 2%), much more likely to be urban than suburban (5% vs 1%)and more likely to voted Biden (2%) than Trump (%1).

These are fairly small numbers overall, but they do rise significantly among the 18-29 set where they hit 20%.

We’ve seen similar results with support for the Hamas attacks of Oct 7.

So what’s going on here? This is not just a “what happened to the youth” thing.

Let’s drill down a bit. What do Biden voters and younger people have in common?

Among white people, only 5% agree with the idea, but 13% of black people and 12% of Hispanic people do.

Let’s look at the inverse.

82% of white people strongly disagree, but only 55% of black people disagree.

The numbers spike among the 18-29 set because it’s also the most diverse generation. The interesting part would potentially come from drilling down to break down the 18-29 numbers by race and gender. What I think we’ll find is that much of it is coming from the more “diverse” young men.

When asked whether Jews have too much power in America, the numbers jump from 13% among white people to 27% among black people. 57% of white people disagree, but only 27% of black people disagree.

We can’t talk about what’s really going on here and so we don’t.
