At around 5.30 pm on April 21, 2026, a 28-year-old Syrian national went to a bookmaker’s shop in Klagenfurt carrying a machete. He left the machete outside the premises before entering. Inside, he is reported to have stated that he was looking for a specific person and intended to kill them. As the person in question was not in the premises, he left again. The man then went to a nearby supermarket, where he is alleged to have brandished the machete and threatened customers present. The suspect was stopped and arrested in the immediate vicinity following a manhunt that was launched immediately. No one was injured in the incident. The machete was seized. He was subsequently taken to the Klagenfurt police detention centre.
