They allegedly severely abused their own daughter (23) for years and locked her up like a slave. Now the Vienna police put an end to the horror and arrested the parents. The Iranian couple (53, 52) is in custody.

On Saturday evening, an Iranian man (53) and his wife, who is one year younger, were arrested in the Döbling district of Vienna. According to the police, they are said to have abused their daughter (23), who had lived with them until the end, for years. The victim had filed a complaint.

The victim is believed to have suffered from the strict rule of her parents since childhood and to have suffered violence. Police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger said that she had been regularly beaten and tortured for around ten years. Verbal humiliations were apparently on the agenda. The father is said to have torn earrings from the girl’s earlobe as punishment or chastised the daughter with a belt if she did not conform to his guidelines and values. She is also said to have been locked in the apartment for several days and deprived of her freedom.

“It cannot be ruled out that religious and ideological backgrounds played a role,” Haßlinger said. The parents are formally stateless, but are originally from Iran. The daughter also accuses the two of having taken out loans for them using her name at a bank under threat of violence.

The parents deny the accusations made against them. Following questioning by the criminal investigation department, they were taken to the Josefstadt Prison. In addition to the continued use of violence and deprivation of liberty, they are also being investigated for aggravated extortion and aggravated coercion. The State Criminal Police Office (LKA), West Branch, is conducting further investigations. The 23-year-old is now in a women’s shelter.
