Allahu akbar – Allah is greater: This call was audible thousands of times in Vienna’s Favoriten district on Monday night. Masses of immigrants loudly celebrated the election victory of Recep Tayyip Erdogan (69), in Austria 72% of Turks voted for him. The Freedom Party criticized these celebrations.

Allah is greater, Allah is great – Allahu akbar: Thousands of Turks living in Vienna shouted these words, which are also used by Islamist terrorists, at the mass demonstration on Reumann Square. No wonder that worried residents of Vienna’s Favoriten district called the Vienna police – but it was not until 9:30 p.m. that the police reportedly tried to break up the noisy election party of Turks living in Austria.

As reported, Recep Tayyip Erdogan won clearly in the 2nd round of voting with 57.7%, in Austria the not uncontroversial Turkish long-term president even got 72% of the votes of Turks living abroad.

The celebrations in the Vienna district of Favoriten and Erdogan’s impressive result in Austria immediately provoked emotional debates on social media channels. For example, Vienna’s Freedom Party leader Dominik Nepp said on Twitter, “All Erdogan fans should cheer their leader in Turkey. Go home!”

Like Nepp, many Austrians did not understand why this mass gathering had been allowed – after all, there were also numerous far-right Turks among the participants who showed the “wolf salute.” The Allahu-akbar shouts are also – and the shouters know this – not really appropriate in a major Central European city after numerous terrorist attacks.

Not without danger, the situation also escalated on the Gürtel, on Triester Street and on Laxenburger Street: Hundreds of people were on the roadways, waving flags, again and again Turkish immigrants let their cars roar, honked.

“This is not a parallel society, but a counter-society. These people reject us and actively want nothing to do with Austria,” commented Vienna’s Freedom Party leader Dominik Nepp. So far, no statements have come from the other parties on the irritating scenes in Vienna.

As reported, the party representing foreigners also wants a very special Ramadan illumination for the district of Favoriten in the future – just like the Christmas illumination in other districts.
