Algerian shouting “Allahu akbar” is deported to Germany after amok alert in Swiss school

The man arrested a week ago after a school shooting in Cortaillod, Neuchâtel, has been deported from Switzerland. The Algerian (25) is being escorted back to the German border, where he had first applied for asylum.

There he will be handed over to the German authorities. The Neuchâtel public prosecutor’s office opened a criminal investigation against him on suspicion of causing public disorder, as it announced on Friday.
The man had behaved conspicuously on the school grounds of the Neuchâtel municipality last Friday afternoon and shouted “Allahu akbar” after coming into contact with a teacher and a technical employee. As he was perceived as a threat, an amok alert was triggered at the school.

The Algerian had made his first application for asylum in Germany and had subsequently travelled through several European countries under different identities. “To date, no link to terrorism has been established and the person concerned is not the subject of an alert in the European Union in this connection,” the statement from the Neuchâtel police and public prosecutor’s office added.
