Switzerland to vote on limiting immigration

svp

A referendum could soon push Switzerland towards significantly stricter migration policies and potentially place its bilateral agreements with the European Union on free movement under strain.

On June 14, Swiss voters will decide whether to approve or reject the so-called “Sustainability Initiative”, also known as the “10 million Switzerland Initiative”, which seeks to cap the country’s population at 10 million by 2050. Switzerland currently has more than nine million inhabitants in steady growth.

If approved, the proposal would require the federal government to introduce restrictive measures on immigration once the population exceeds 9.5 million to prevent it from surpassing the 10 million threshold. Among the measures envisaged is the possible termination of Switzerland’s agreement with the EU on the free movement of persons.

The new initiative was launched by the Swiss People’s Party (SVP), Switzerland’s largest political force, which typically secures around 25 per cent to 30 per cent of the vote in federal elections and participates in government under the country’s power-sharing system.

The party is known for its hardline positions on immigration, national sovereignty and EU relations, often adopting a strongly Eurosceptic stance.

Switzerland’s referendum system is based on direct democracy, allowing citizens or political groups to trigger a nationwide vote by collecting 50,000 signatures within 100 days to challenge legislation passed by parliament.

The SVP argues that the initiative responds to population growth driven primarily by immigration rather than natural increase.

Switzerland’s fertility rate stands at around 1.4 children per woman, well below replacement level, yet its population has risen from about 7.25 million in 2002 to more than 9 million today. That is largely due to net migration facilitated by the 2002 bilateral agreements with the EU on free movement.

Although Switzerland is not an EU member, these agreements allow Swiss and EU citizens to live and work in each other’s territories. Since their introduction, migration flows have increased, supported by strong labour demand, higher wages and attractive working conditions.

According to the SVP, this demographic growth is placing pressure on housing, transport, public services, and the environment. In this context, “sustainability” is framed in demographic and political terms, focusing on limiting population growth to preserve quality of life and resources.

The proposal is firmly opposed by a broad coalition including the federal government, parliament, business associations, trade unions, and cantonal authorities. They all warn of significant economic risks and potential damage to Switzerland’s relationship with the EU.

Justice minister Beat Jans has said the measure could threaten “prosperity, internal security and Switzerland’s humanitarian tradition”.

The vote is being closely monitored in Brussels, where officials warn that any restriction on free movement could have implications for Switzerland’s access to the EU single market, which is underpinned by a network of bilateral agreements.

The European Commission has repeatedly stressed that free movement is a core pillar of the relationship, warning that undermining it could destabilise the broader framework.

Polls indicate a deeply divided electorate. A Leewas survey published on April 29, 2026 showed a slight lead for supporters of the initiative (52 per cent in favour versus 46 per cent against), while an SRG poll released later on May 8 pointed to an almost even split at 47 per cent to 47 per cent, underscoring the uncertainty ahead of the vote.

Germany: A Syrian man is alleged to have planned a terrorist attack in Hamburg with the aim of killing as many infidels as possible

Wikimedia Commons, Mario Lang, CC-BY-4.0

Whether a shopping centre, a bar or a police station: a 17-year-old is alleged to have planned an attack in the heart of Hamburg. The Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday that it is believed the teenager intended to kill an unspecified number of “infidels” – by means of an explosion, Molotov cocktails or a knife.
The Syrian national is now in custody. At the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, an arrest warrant has been issued on suspicion of preparing a terrorist offence and financing terrorism.

According to investigators, the 17-year-old is alleged to have obtained, among other things, all-purpose fertiliser, liquid barbecue lighter fluid, a balaclava and a knife. Special forces from the Hamburg police arrested him on May 7. The items in question were seized during a search of his premises.
According to current findings, the foreign terrorist organisation “Islamic State” is believed to have served as the inspiration for the alleged plot. According to the authorities, the success of the investigation was largely due to information provided by the Federal Intelligence Service and the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, as well as investigations by the Federal Criminal Police Office and the Hamburg State Criminal Police Office.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office had previously ordered a psychiatric assessment of the young man in separate proceedings concerning possible breaches of the Associations Act.

Europe is the canary in the coal mine, and Western Civilization is in serious jeopardy

by Susan Quinn

No matter how much the news fills with the conquest of Europe by the Islamic hordes, we think that in this country, their experience does not apply to us. After all, we are the most successful country in the world, and we celebrate our founding and freedoms more than any other nation; we are incredibly naïve and seriously at risk, as we study the Europeans’ downfall.

What made Europe so vulnerable to this takeover?

For one, they lauded multiculturalism. They heralded their own openness, generosity, and compassion for hundreds and thousands of third world foreigners, and Europe opened their doors. They finally realized that they’d been overrun by alien cultures that hold Westernism in disdain, and disrespect the rule of Western law. The question for the host countries was, what should they do now? It turns out that they were intimidated by these alien Muslims and the leftists, and they certainly didn’t want to admit that multiculturalism simply didn’t work.

Until it was too late.

Now that they realize that Muslims do not appreciate their hospitality, and certainly don’t want to become part of the culture of their hosts, the Muslims to a great degree have isolated themselves. Even if they don’t create exclusively Muslim neighborhoods, they tend to build relationships with other Muslims. The European population knows they have created their own prison overseen by lawless immigrants who have come to their countries:

In avoiding risk, the cowardly leaders of Western Europe – those sell-outs to an increasingly antagonistic extremist Muslim electorate upon whom they are increasingly dependent for political office — are a disgrace to their nations. They are also a great disappointment to those who believe in the preservation of history’s finest civilization – one with freedom, democracy, human rights, and an embedded Judeo-Christian moral foundation.

One community that demonstrates the slow destruction of the culture is that of the U.K. Muslims—they are angry that the U.K. is showing any support at all for Israel, and believes the British government has abandoned Gaza. Although the U.K. supported recognizing a Palestinian state (which, of course, doesn’t exist), the Muslims were not pacified by this action. The British Muslims support the Gazans, in spite of their current home. Support of Gaza has even invaded the local elections in the U.K.:

The Gaza effect will be felt more clearly in bigger cities like London and Birmingham, with surging support for the left-wing populist Green Party, which has made the Palestinian cause a key part of its platform, and a host of independent candidates, the majority Muslim and featuring explicitly pro-Gaza platforms. Vaseem Ahmed, an independent candidate in the London district of Redbridge, has appealed to Muslim voters to punish the party that ‘abandoned us on the altar of Zionism.’

[snip]

Ahead of this week’s elections, a poll conducted by the center-right think tank Policy Exchange in areas with high Muslim populations found that Gaza was the second most important electoral issue for British Muslims, after the cost of living and ahead of Islamophobia. A quarter of the 1,000 Muslims surveyed said Gaza was a leading issue in the coming local elections, compared with around 5% of the general British population, which ranked Gaza far below most other listed priorities, from the economy to immigration to welfare.

The U.K. is not alone in Europe in demonstrating that lack of assimilation and the lawlessness of the migrant Muslims. Recent statistics show alarming data in Germany. Violent crime is documented in never-seen-before numbers, including murder, rape, and theft.

You might wonder why the situation in Europe, and specifically in the U.K., has anything to do with the United States. Although Muslim immigration has been greatly reduced here, the Muslim population here is growing. Muslims are running for political office at federal, state and the local levels, and many are considering the plight of the Gazans as part of their agenda. Amidst the fraud perpetrated in Minnesota primarily by Somalis, some funds were being sent to Al Shabab, a terrorist organization.

People who have observed the migrant Muslim community in this country for years provide a dismal forecast for their future here:

In 2026, we’ve got somewhere between 4,000,000 and 6,000,000 Muslims enclaving in our communities across America. With over 2,600 mosques, they are building them at breakneck speed. Those mosques’ imams preach overthrowing America.

There’s even a Muslim named El-Sayed in Michigan running for U.S. Senator. If given enough power, he would install Sharia Law over our U.S. Constitution. He even said, and I’m a quoting him, ‘America deserved 9/11.’ In fact, given enough numbers in Congress, Muslims would use our Constitution to displace our Constitution.

We full-blooded Americans need to vote to outlaw Sharia Law. We need to deport any Muslim preaching or speaking out against America, such as the ones in Dearborn who are chanting, ‘Death To America.’

We need to stop all legal and illegal immigration into America before we face Islamic violence that ALWAYS follows when Muslims move into Western countries.

We need to take the Muslim invasion of Europe very seriously. The Europeans may differ from us in some ways, but they also represent the Western mentality and cultures that believe, for the most part, in freedom.

We must understand that we have been invaded, too.

‘Another victim of radical Islam!’ — Bangladeshi migrant charged over alleged rape of 17-year-old mother and suspected child bride in Italy

A Bangladeshi national is under investigation in Venice after a 17-year-old compatriot accused him of raping her inside the Mestre home she shares with her husband and newborn child.

The alleged attack took place on Thursday evening while the girl’s husband, also Bangladeshi, was out of the property. According to the initial report, the suspect, described as a fellow Bangladeshi who lived in the same accommodation, allegedly waited until the husband had left before assaulting the teenager.

As reported by Il Giornale, the girl reportedly managed to break free and contact her husband, who then called the police. Officers attended the scene, took the girl’s statement, and began inquiries into the suspect, who has been identified and charged with sexual assault.

Politicians from the right-wing Lega party commented on the attack. Anna Cisint, a member of the European Parliament, and Alex Bazzaro, the party’s group leader on Venice City Council, linked the allegation to wider concerns about illegal subletting, abusive housing arrangements, and the treatment of women in some migrant communities.

“An unacceptable episode, a shameful rape that targeted a 17-year-old Bangladeshi girl,” Cisint said. “Another victim of the violence of radical Islam and probably of the rotten system based on hospitality. The same pattern I have already seen in Monfalcone. A Bangladeshi minor already with children: I wonder, a child bride?” she added, as cited by Leggo.

Bazzaro said the attack was partly due to a broken housing system he described as a “black market of illegal sublets and abusive bed spaces.”

“This is the pseudo-culture that the left wants to bring to the Venice City Hall. We believe these individuals must be repackaged and sent back to where they came from,” he added.

Authorities have not confirmed any wider investigation into the girl’s marriage, housing situation, or immigration status.

The criminal investigation into the sexual attack is ongoing.

UK: Triggered students given the right to walk out of lectures unpunished if they feel ‘offended’

Students will be allowed to storm out of lectures if they feel “offended” under new guidance issued by a British university.

Bath Spa University has introduced a policy permitting students to exit lectures without explanation if they become “distressed” by difficult subject matter.

The institution’s wellness team developed a content-warning guide outlining the provisions for its 28,000-strong student body.

Under the new rules, staff must tell students at the beginning of each year that they may leave their lectures as they like – even if doing so could affect their academic performance.

Lecturers must also distribute written warnings before classes addressing topics such as mental illness, stalking, hateful language, and kidnapping, The Sun revealed.

University leadership has insisted that the approach grants students “agency to act in their own best interest”.

But Free Speech Union director Lord Young has laid into Bath Spa’s approach.

“Pandering to students’ imaginary mental health problems is not the way to turn them into resilient adults,” he said.

The policy has also attracted mockery from within academic circles.

One source said the arrangement would serve as ideal cover for students nursing hangovers who wished to avoid early morning lectures.

“How are you meant to teach students if they can leave at any point when a discussion becomes challenging?” they added.

A spokeswoman for Bath Spa University said: “Our content warning policy provides students with advance notice of material that may be particularly distressing, while fully recognising that engagement with challenging ideas and debate is a fundamental part of higher education.

“The policy does not remove challenging content from teaching, nor does it limit academic debate.“

In 2024, the University of Reading came under fire after it emerged that biology students were being given trigger warnings when being shown “graphic” images of human anatomy.

Students studying life sciences received the alert when they were set to study “challenging” areas which could “upset” them.

The students were also informed that they would require consent from their peers before they performed practice clinical exams – involving “physical contact through clothing”.

Those who feel “uncomfortable” performing such exams “can either observe or work on their own body”.

It adds: “Every week will include potentially graphic images or videos showing the human body, as well as content on specific health conditions or diseases/death.”

Medics blasted the university’s measure at the time, claiming that it might be detrimental to students’ “preparedness” in their future career.

“This trigger warning scenario is actually creating the problem they’re trying to avoid,” NHS GP Dr Renee Hoenderkamp told The Sun.

She added: “When they do this in real life, after graduating, it only means they’ll be even more shocked.”

A University of Reading spokesman previously said: “We follow best practice on the content and description of our courses.

“People who aspire to work in healthcare will expect to encounter bodies and diseases.

“We think it is fair to students to tell them accurately what they will be studying, and it may be helpful to them as they choose a career.”

Transgender Pedophile Held In A Women’s Prison Seeks To Settle “Religious Discrimination” Case With New Jersey Department of Corrections

Marina Volz (L) and Ashley Romero (R)

A sadistic transgender pedophile serving his sentence in a women’s prison has entered into settlement negotiations with the New Jersey Department of Corrections after suing officials for denying him access to “Wiccan religious items.” Marina Volz is currently serving a 25-year sentence for horrific sexual crimes he committed against his own 7-year-old daughter.

As previously reported by Reduxx, Volz, born Matthew, was first sentenced on charges of human trafficking, aggravated sexual assault, conspiracy and endangering the welfare of a child on May 2, 2022. The conviction stemmed from a lengthy investigation into Volz and three of his associates.

Volz in 2017 serving as the Clark College Queer Association president.

A search warrant was executed at his home in 2019 after the New Jersey Department of Child Protection received a tip indicating that a child was present in a premises where sexually explicit material was being filmed. Volz, along with another trans-identified male named Ashley Romero, had been operating a “transgender fetish porn” business from the home, and concerns had been raised that Volz’s 7-year-old daughter had been exposed to indecent material.

But after his electronic devices were seized, the investigation took a decidedly darker turn. Several sexually-explicit photos and videos of the child were found after forensic examination. As the investigation continued, it became clear that the child had been repeatedly sexually abused to create sadistic bondage pornography that Volz distributed through his network.

Investigators learned that Volz had taken the child from her mother in 2018, traveling cross-country with Romero to transport her from Oregon to New Jersey for the explicit purposes of using her in child sexual abuse material. It is believed the girl’s mother, an ex-partner of Volz’s, struggled with addiction issues, making it easy for the two men to take the child without her full knowledge of what was happening.

Some of the media found by police featured Romero sexually abusing the girl with another man. Romero lived in the residence with Volz and with two other individuals; Sean Allen, who had also sexually abused the child on film, and Dulcinea Gnecco, who acted as a domestic assistant.

During the trial, prosecutors told the Judge the little girl had been subjected to “a vortex of darkness” after being removed from her mother’s care.

Judge Peter Tober declined to delve into the full details of the case due to their highly graphic nature, but noted to the court that she had been subjected to torture-like conditions, mentioning neck collars, a cage in the basement, and sex toys.

“If this was not heinous, cruel and depraved, I don’t know what is,” Judge Tober said, stating that the girl had been taken from her mother “solely for the sexual gratification” of others.

In media coverage of the horrific case, Volz and Romero were referred to as “women” and were addressed using “she/her” pronouns. Volz was even identified as the girl’s “mother” in the Daily Mail and My Central Jersey. It was later uncovered that Volz had previously served as the Clark College Queer Association president prior to his transition, just one year before the sexual abuse of the child began.

Volz was ultimately sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of human trafficking, aggravated sexual assault, conspiracy and endangering the welfare of a child. Ashley Romero was also sentenced to 25 years after admitting to assisting Volz in transporting the child from her mother for the purposes of sexually abusing her.

The two other men in the home were also convicted for their roles in the sexual abuse of the child. Sean Allen, 54, was handed a 12-year sentence for his role in the crimes, and Dulcinea Gnecco, was also charged on four counts of child endangerment and received a 5-year sentence.

After their sentencing in May of 2022, Reduxx learned that Romero had immediately been housed in the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women, but that Volz had initially been placed in the South Woods State Prison for men. Just two months later, Volz was quietly transferred to Edna Mahan but was still recorded as a “male” inmate until 2023, when the state of New Jersey updated his inmate profile to classify him as a “female” inmate.

That same year, Volz launched a discrimination lawsuit against the New Jersey Department of Corrections, alleging human rights violations on the basis of his “religious freedoms.”

In the suit, Volz claimed he was being denied religious accommodations in accordance with his Wiccan beliefs. Wicca is a modern Pagan spiritual practice that centers on nature, rituals, and reverence for divine forces often represented as a Goddess and a horned God.

Volz alleged that Joy Lynch, the head of religious services at Edna Mahan, had denied him a number of Wiccan religious accommodations, including the ability to maintain a “Witch’s Garden” for growing “sacred herbs” and the ability to perform night-time rituals either nude (“sky-clad”) or in a cloak.

From the lawsuit filed by Volz.

The NJDOC permits the practice of Wicca in the state’s prisons, and practitioners are reportedly allowed to access at least some of the items Volz claimed he had been denied, such as the Book of Shadows, which contains instructions for magical rituals, a pentacle, incense, three electric or battery-operated candles, and a cup of grape juice as a substitute for wine.

The case has been slow-moving, but a new update shows that Volz has now entered into settlement negotiations with the Department, and had requested a number of measures to settle the case that Department lawyers are now considering.

Volz has presented the Department with 12 settlement demands, including the right to perform outdoor Wiccan religious ceremonies in the nude during certain observations, and the ability to be designated a Wiccan religious leader within the prison.

But another striking point from the latest joint update includes a request from Volz to marry his sex offender accomplice, Ashley Romero, while the two are incarcerated.

If the request is approved, Volz and Romero would not be the first trans-identified male inmates at the women’s prison to be permitted to marry while incarcerated.

Another Edna Mahan inmate, Perry “Michelle Hel-loki Angelina” Cerf, was permitted to marry another inmate at the facility while serving a 50-year-sentence for the brutal slaying of 47-year-old Ecuadorian immigrant Flor Andrade in 2002.

Cerf had been stopped for speeding while driving her car in Demearst, New Jersey, and further investigation by police led them to the corpse of Andrade, whose naked and bound body had been dumped in a nearby ravine. He was charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, aggravated sexual assault, possessing a knife, providing false information to police, and various motor vehicle offenses.

Speaking to media in 2005, Cerf said he had no regrets about murdering Andrade. “Personally, I don’t like to say I regret things that I’ve done,” he said, concluding: “I feel bad because I got caught.”

During his trial, prosecutors initially offered Cerf a 40-year sentence if he pleaded guilty to rape and murder. However, Cerf told authorities he didn’t want to enter prison on a sex-related charge and accepted a 50-year sentence to avoid a rape conviction, expressing concerns that being a sex offender would make him a target for other inmates.

Cerf was quietly transferred to the women’s facility at an unknown date after beginning to identify as transgender.

In 2022, a female inmate at Edna Mahan spoke to Reduxx and revealed that Cerf had been permitted to marry another inmate at the facility, and that the two had even been housed together for a period of time before being separated due to repeat complaints from other inmates.

Germany: René Stadtkewitz of the AfD party becomes the new mayor of Zehdenick with almost 60% of the vote

René Stadtkewitz. Screengrab youtube

René Stadtkewitz (AfD) is to become the new mayor of Zehdenick (Oberhavel). In Sunday’s election, he secured 58.4 per cent of the vote, beating his rivals Stephan von Hundelshausen (FDP, 28.6 per cent), Wolf-Gernot Richardt (independent, 7.8 per cent) and Dennis Latzke (Party of Progress, 5.2 per cent).

Voter turnout stood at 52.8 per cent. The quorum was met.

René Stadtkewitz is thus the first directly elected full-time AfD mayor in Brandenburg. Although the state had previously had a full-time mayor with an AfD membership card – Arne Raue in Jüterbog – he was an independent candidate when he was elected in 2011 and re-elected in 2019, and only joined the AfD in 2024. In 2025, he moved to the Bundestag.

As early as 2025, Stadtkewitz had stood against the police officer Alexander Kretzschmar (independent) for the office of mayor of Zehdenick, but was defeated at the time.

Stadtkewitz, a native of Berlin, has been a member of Zehdenick’s town council since the summer of 2024. He had moved to the town on the River Havel with his family just under a year earlier. He is chair of the Committee for Urban Development and Construction. Stadtkewitz was formerly a CDU MP in Berlin and broke with the Christian Democrats in 2010. He founded the party “Die Freiheit”, of which he was federal chairman until 2013. In 2024, he became a member of the AfD.

Synthetic Diversity vs. Organic Diversity: A Right-Wing Definition of Diversity

Medforth AI

One of the dominant concepts in today’s Europe is diversity. It is a word long claimed by the Left, while the Right has struggled to formulate a vision of its own. The Right is better at articulating what it is against than what it is for. This is partly because diversity today usually evokes immigration, integration, and people of different origins living in Europe. Yet this is only one meaning of diversity, and not the deepest. Europe already possesses another: older, more organic, and more rooted in history, the diversity of churches, regions, peoples, languages, rites, folk memory, and inherited ways of life.

Organic diversity is not invented by bureaucrats in Brussels. Rather, it grows from the bottom up through generations and centuries. Synthetic diversity is engineered from the top down by bureaucrats who have ignored the will of Europe’s peoples. Organic diversity is not one uniform thing but an order of smaller, interconnected forms: the regional cultures of Europe, formed and refined over centuries; local customs, food and drink, dialects, folk songs, traditional dress, legal traditions, local myths and stories, and inherited ways of life.

Organic diversity is the opposite of the Left’s synthetic diversity, which endangers organic diversity, especially microcultures where only a few thousand people still speak a dialect, preserve an accent, or live according to a rooted local way of life. Synthetic diversity is not diversity at all. Contrary to its advocates’ claims, it creates a homogenising effect throughout Europe: the same slogans, global cities, consumer culture, and multinational stores. Athens, when shaped by organic diversity, has its Athenians, Greeks from the provinces and islands, descendants of Asia Minor Greeks uprooted by the Catastrophe and genocide, other Europeans, and a number of non-Europeans, all helping make the city uniquely and spiritually Greek. London, when shaped by organic diversity, has native microcultures developed over centuries, alongside other Europeans and a number of non-Europeans living within its inherited English form. But Athens and London remade by synthetic diversity become interchangeable global cities: different in architecture and size, perhaps, but increasingly the same city in spirit.

This same organic diversity is not limited to the spirit of European cities; it is also visible in Europe’s Christian heritage. When one thinks of Christian Europe, one usually imagines a flat religious category or, at best, its main families: Catholic, Protestant, and Eastern Orthodox. But beneath these families lies an organic plurality of smaller churches, rites, and traditions: Melkite Greek Catholics, Ruthenians, Waldensians, Moravians, Hussites, and Russian Old Believers, some of whom fled persecution in Russia from the late 17th century onwards and settled in Romania as Lipovans, preserving older Russian speech and pre-Nikonian Orthodox rites. Europe has also received Christians not European in origin but spiritually and historically connected to it through the wider Mediterranean, late antique, and Eastern Roman Christian worlds: Armenians, Syriac Orthodox, Copts, Maronites, and others. The point is not to produce a catalogue of denominations, but to show that Christianity has never existed as one flat cultural form. Rather, it contains an organic plurality of cultures, rites, liturgies, languages, customs, sacred inheritances, and even traditional clothing. Their presence reveals that organic diversity is not reducible to crude ethnic categories, but belongs to deeper civilisational continuities of rite, memory, worship, and inheritance. This is organic diversity in practice: a diversity that the Right should preserve and protect, and which synthetic diversity, with its mass immigration, threatens.

Europe’s ethnic minorities also form part of this organic diversity, such as the Frisians, a Germanic people found in Friesland, East Frisia, and North Frisia. Their related languages are spoken by roughly half a million people: West Frisian in the Netherlands and North Frisian and Saterland Frisian in Germany, where they have regional status. Germany also has a native Slavic minority, the Sorbs, often estimated at around 60,000 to 80,000 people, mainly in Lusatia, between Saxony and Brandenburg. Their languages are Upper and Lower Sorbian. These languages have long been contracting, not helped by cuts to Sorbian institutions and schools, while far greater resources are found for the projects of synthetic diversity.

Romania, too, has organic minorities; one of these is the Transylvanian Saxons, a German-speaking people whose ancestors settled in Transylvania from the 12th century onwards from various Germanic and western European regions such as Flanders and Luxembourg. They speak Transylvanian Saxon, a native dialect developed over centuries, which is close to Luxembourgish, and have their own culture, customs, and costumes.

Another case is the Griko people in Southern Italy. They are heirs to the Greek-speaking world of Southern Italy, with roots often associated with Magna Graecia and later Byzantine continuities. They do not speak Standard Modern Greek, but Griko, a Greek variety shaped by ancient, Byzantine, and southern Italian influences. Many of these minorities have created microcultures in Europe and testify to organic diversity working over centuries and, in cases like the Griko, for millennia. Some are threatened by synthetic diversity and mass immigration, especially because many of these languages and minorities are very small in number. Even regions without ethnic minorities in the same sense, such as Flanders, are deeply diverse in their own way: Flemish is not one uniform dialect or pronunciation; in a small place, one need only travel a few kilometres to encounter a different local speech.

Beyond Christianity, organic diversity also appears among Europe’s historic non-Christian minorities, such as Jewish communities. Jewish Europe is not one flat category either, with different communities preserving their own languages, dialects, and microcultures. The best-known Jewish tradition with its own language is that of the Ashkenazi Jews, whose Yiddish developed in Central and Eastern Europe. In Greece and Cyprus there are the Romaniote Jews, present since the Hellenistic period and preserving their own Judaeo-Greek tradition and culture. Sephardic Jews, originally from Spain and Portugal, preserved Ladino or Judeo-Spanish, derived from Old Spanish and enriched by Hebrew and Mediterranean influences. Europe also has Muslim minorities of its own, such as the Pomaks, a native Slavic Muslim people living especially in the Rhodope Mountains of Greece and Bulgaria, including a Greek community often estimated at around 50,000, with their own culture. Here again, the point is not multicultural abstraction, but rooted historical presence: communities formed by time, memory, loyalty, language, and place.

Besides the Abrahamic religions, Europe also preserves very ancient organic diversity in its pre-Christian survivals, some of which now survive under a Christian framework. The Lithuanian Rasos is a midsummer festival connected to the summer solstice, later Christianised as Saint John’s Day. During the festival, people light bonfires, gather herbs, and search for a mythical flower. In the French Pyrenees, people still mark the summer solstice with fire festivals. After sunset, people carry flaming torches from the mountains to light beacons built in the traditional way. It marks the passage from adolescence to adulthood. In Northern Greece, Anastenaria survives as a Christianised ritual associated with Saints Constantine and Helen, involving music, ecstatic dances, and walking barefoot over coals. It is often associated with older Dionysian traditions.

These movements are not always unbroken traditions, but they reveal a related desire: the recovery of ancestral memory, sacred symbolism, and vertical continuity after rupture. Europe’s organic diversity is therefore not only Christian, ethnic, religious, or linguistic; it also includes symbolic and mythic diversity, whether preserved through inherited festivals or sought through ancestral recovery.

If one applies Traditionalism with a capital T, the 20th-century school of thought, rather than small-t traditionalism, the difference between organic and synthetic diversity mirrors the difference between verticality and horizontality, sacred and profane, quality and quantity, form and formlessness. Verticality, in the Traditionalist sense, means continuity with what is eternal, enduring, and transcendent. It binds the living to the dead and the local to the sacred. Horizontality means life reduced to quantity, utility, comfort, interchangeability, population, economy, administration, consumption, and individual preference. In Mircea Eliade’s sense, the sacred gives everyday life meaning and orientation through festivals, myths, symbols, and sacred places, while the profane reduces the world to management and interchangeable space. Quality means metaphysical and spiritual form; quantity means counting. A Transylvanian Saxon dress, a Griko dialect, a Cockney accent, a Maronite liturgy, a Romaniote Jewish tradition, or a Lithuanian midsummer festival is not just one more difference, but an inheritance with shape, rhythm, memory, and soul, because it belongs to an intergenerational chain of transmission carried across centuries and millennia. While synthetic diversity is formless: it replaces living rhythm and soul with mechanism, control, and bureaucratic beat.

As a response to liberal homogenisation and synthetic diversity, the contemporary Right answers with slogans like “the West,” “Europe,” or “our Graeco-Roman and Christian heritage.” But it rarely defines what these things mean in form, materially or spiritually. But if the Right wants to mature and acquire real depth against a modern liberalism that is shallow and horizontal, then it must know what it claims to defend and become more vertical. This would enable voters to imagine another kind of diversity, so that voters know they are defending something bigger and older than themselves. Instead of merely fighting its opponents’ manufactured diversity, the Right should preserve the organic diversity that history has given Europe. Instead of surrendering Europe to those who want to dissolve every bit of inheritance and turn it into interchangeable sameness, the Right should recover, not develop, because it is already there: diversity as inheritance, heritage, and legacy.

Over Half Million Migrants Waiting in Libya to Cross Into Europe, Warns Greek Immigration Minister

The Greek government has warned that there are over half a million migrants waiting in Libya to cross the Mediterranean and land in Europe, sparking concerns of another migrant crisis.

Greek Migration Minister Thanos Plevris said this week that Athens estimates there are approximately 550,000 migrants waiting in Libya, the African hub, for the opportunity to cross to Europe.

Pelvris said that Athens is working closely with Libyan authorities as well as the European Union’s external border force Frontex to prevent migrant boats from taking off from the coastline of the Maghreb nation.

“Those who are not entitled to asylum will be detained,” the migration minister said, per Greek news outlet Voria. “Now, when it is likely that someone will not get asylum, they are not placed in a freedom status but in a detention status, so that with the rejection of asylum, they can be returned.”

The official defended the hardline approach taken by the conservative government of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to reduce illegal immigration, saying that “there is no reason for Greece to open its borders and accept people” and therefore Greece “will operate within the legal framework, but will also reach its limits in order to protect the borders.”

Among the policies enacted by Athens to stem the tide of illegals has been the erection of a 41-kilometre (25-mile) wall along the Turkish border, which has previously been weaponised by the Islamist Erdogan government in Ankara.

The government has also made it a criminal offence to enter Greece illegally, with a minimum prison sentence of 2 years and a fine of up to €10,000. Those found to have stayed past their visa expiration or remained in the country after having their asylum claims rejected face two to five years in prison.

Migrants who had their asylum requests shut down are now only legally allowed to remain in the country for 14 days before facing fines, prison, and potential ankle monitoring.

Upon the law’s passage in September, Migration Minister Plevris said: “We are accountable to Greek citizens, and Greek citizens want to be protected… The message is clear [for migrants]: if your asylum request is rejected, you have two choices. Either you go to jail or return to your homeland. The Greek state does not accept you… You are not welcome.”

The warnings of a new migration surge from Libya come amid an uptick in recorded illegal landings in Greece, with this week seeing 268 migrants arrive on the southern island of Crete in just a 24-hour period. Earlier in the week, 126 landed in Crete after crossing the sea in small boats from Libya.

The estimates from the Greek government may be on the low end, with the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM) identifying some 939,638 migrants living in Libya at the end of 2025, a record high. However, the agency did not identify how many are actually planning to seek better fortunes in Europe, stay in Libya, return to their homeland, or travel elsewhere.

Clustered in metropolitan centres like Benghazi and Tripoli, the main migrant groups residing in the country are from fellow African nations such as Chad, Egypt, Niger, Nigeria, and Sudan.
