Europe’s left wants to replace the white working class with migrants

Granting citizenship to hordes of illegal immigrants coming from Africa and the Middle East is a threat to the whole of Europe, but it makes the left happy

by Giulio Meotti

We live in strange and interesting times, in which leaders of the left hope that migrants (who, of course, will not be Cuban, Ukrainian, or Venezuelan) replace, literally, white people.

The Spanish MEP and leader of Podemos, Irene Montero, celebrated the dramatic regularization of illegal immigrants wanted by Pedro Sánchez’s government as a “victory”. The measure will benefit at least half a million illegal immigrants. An enormous figure for a very old population of 49 million Spaniards, who in fact do not approve of the demographic invasion.

Granting citizenship to hordes of illegal immigrants coming from Africa and the Middle East is a threat to the whole of Europe as well.

Niall Ferguson will recall that the main reason for Brexit was immigration: “Many people in the United Kingdom looked at the refugee crisis in Europe and thought: ‘If these people get German passports, they will come to Great Britain and we will not be able to stop them.’ This was a fundamental issue for voters, and legitimately so, because the Germans had opened the doors to a vast influx from the Muslim world. If you looked at these things from the United Kingdom the reaction was: wait a moment, what happens if they arrive here?”

German journalist Jochen Bittner, writing in The New York Times, also explained that Brexit gained momentum with Angela Merkel’s decision: “At the end of 2015, the Leave campaign began posting billboards showing the exodus of Syrian refugees and others from Balkan countries, using slogans like ‘Breaking Point’ and ‘Take Back Control.’ With Merkel favoring an open-door policy, the message struck millions of concerned Britons and Europeans. It was during this period that support for Brexit began to strengthen.”

With these insane immigration policies they will end up destroying the European Union.

Montero went so far as to call for the replacement of Spaniards with immigrants: “I hope that we can sweep this country clean of fascists and racists with migrants,” she exclaimed, defending the “replacement theory.”

Montero was speaking at a Podemos rally (a party sympathetic to Hamas, Maduro, and Iran) in Zaragoza as part of the campaign for the Aragon regional elections on February 8, and she asked “please, migrant and racialized people,” do not “leave us alone with so many fascists.”

“We have obtained the documents, regularization now. And now we are trying to obtain citizenship or to change the law so that they can vote, obviously. We hope, with the theory of replacement, to be able to sweep this country clean of fascists and racists with migrants, with workers. Of course, I want there to be a replacement – a replacement of fascists, a replacement of racists – and that we can do it with the workers of this country, whatever the color of their skin, whether they are Chinese, Black, mixed-race, with all the workers of this country.”

Despite having one of the lowest birth rates in the world, Spain has just reached a population of 49,442,844 inhabitants, a historical record, thanks to the increase in immigration. According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), this demographic growth is due to the increase in individuals born abroad currently residing in Spain, in contrast with the decrease in the number of inhabitants born in the country.

ABC writes: “The foreign population will grow 20 times faster than the Spanish population.”

In 1990, Muslims in Spain numbered 100,000. In 2010, the number reached 1.5 million. In 2017, two million. In 2025, two and a half million. This is a growth of 1,900 percent in just 27 years. And in the future? 11 million within another generation.

Spain must accept 191,000 immigrants every year from now until 2050 if it wants to compensate for the ongoing population collapse, according to the document Spain 2050 presented by Prime Minister Sánchez, who has begun the work with the first 500,000 naturalized illegal immigrants. “We will have to welcome and integrate hundreds of thousands of immigrants from now until 2050,” the report states, also considering the reception of a larger volume. “If we accept 255,000 people per year, the decline of the working-age population would be 1.8 million people, instead of the 3.7 million expected with a migratory balance of 191,000.”

According to estimates by the think tank Funcas, cited by La Gaceta, the number of irregular immigrants increased from about 107,000 in 2017 to nearly 840,000 in 2025, an increase of almost 685 percent.

Impressive are the words of Rafael Bardaji, former national security adviser to Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar:

“In 1996, Spain had 542,314 registered foreigners. Most came from Northern European countries and the United Kingdom – retirees with dual residence who came to enjoy long stays or retirement in the benefits of the Spanish climate. In 2004, when the Socialist Party returned to power, the foreign population had multiplied sixfold, reaching 3 million. From 2004 onward, with very few exceptions linked to the deep economic crisis generated by the Socialist government of Rodríguez Zapatero, immigration continued to grow. The last census of 2022 places it at over 5.5 million (12 percent of the total population), and estimates for 2024 range from 6.5 million to 7.5 million, 15 percent of the population.

“The infamous Arab and Muslim route has shifted from the Middle East to the West with the acquiescence of timid conservatives and the complacency of an infantile and nihilistic left. Today, Barcelona looks more like Tangier than Copenhagen or Milan. In Spain, Spanish women have a fertility rate of 1.1 children, Moroccan women have 3.4. Not far from now, there will be more worshippers in mosques on Fridays than Catholics at Mass on Sundays.”

A few days ago Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of La France Insoumise and head of the French left, invited his party to demonstrate “its ability to embody the new France, the France of the Great Replacement, the France of the generation that replaces another because it has always been so since the dawn of time.” He also stated: “We do not speak enough Arabic in France.”

Le Figaro just reported: “Six out of ten new French citizens are of African origin.”

In the Paris region, the ten most given male baby names are, in order: Mohamed, Adam, Ibrahim, Isaac, Imran, Ismaël, Amir, Issa, Yanis, and Rayan. For girls: Nour, Lina, Aya, Inaya, Fatoumata, Sofia, Aïcha, Alya, Sarah, and Yasmine.

Muslim women in France have a fertility rate of 2.73 children, double that of native French women, according to a study published in Causeur.

And yet the “grand remplacement” was a fascist fantasy. What do Americans think when reading these numbers?

Philosopher Peter Boghossian explains it to Le Figaro:

“Before coming to France, I was at a dinner and when I said I would be coming here, several people replied: ‘Why are you doing it? It doesn’t matter. Don’t go. France is lost.’ I think many Americans, from the center to the right, do not believe that France will still exist at the end of the century. If a society does not want to fight for what it considers important, then it deserves what happens to it. We can do a few thought experiments. Imagine that all the inhabitants of Uganda settle in Belgium: will Belgium be the same in fifty years? No. Okay. Now imagine that all the Swedes, except those from Malmö, move to Uganda and Ugandans become a minority. What will it be like in fifty years?

“These are legitimate questions. More than 1 percent of the French population is made up of illegal immigrants. This represents 700,000 people. You have no idea who these people are. It is completely insane. It is a cultural suicide. University professor Gad Saad calls it ‘suicidal empathy.’ The denial is immense. That is why many Americans think you are finished.”

Merry Hermanus, an official of the Socialist Party in Brussels, revealed: “What would the Socialist Party be without the mosques? Less than 10 percent. The Socialist Party obtained 23 percent in the last elections. Without North Africans it is worth 8.”

What the Socialists have done in Brussels they want to replicate everywhere, from Spain to France to Italy, with the unconditional surrender of the Democratic Party to the demographically profitable crescent.

At the municipal council of Molenbeek, one of the municipalities of the Brussels region, the interim mayor and socialist councilor Saliha Raïss said: “Do women with veils bother you? Then leave!”.

When the French writer Renaud Camus, who coined the expression “Great Replacement,” was supposed to walk through the streets of the Brussels municipality of Saint-Josse, the mayor Emir Kir, a socialist of Turkish origin who denies the Armenian genocide, issued an ordinance banning the demonstration:

“Saint-Josse symbolizes the Great Enrichment, not the Great Replacement.”

Let us look at the data, which date back several years. Saint-Josse is already 49 percent Islamic. Replacement accomplished.

They have turned the fears of the “Great Replacement” into victory reports.

For years, the left said that the expression “Great Replacement” was a right-wing conspiracy theory and now shifts the debate to the taboo of “remigration.”

For me, who does not believe in conspiracies, the definition given by Michel Houellebecq therefore applied: “I was very shocked that it was called a ‘theory.’ It is not a theory, it is a fact.”

The left is now converted to a ruthless operation of social and political engineering disguised as humanitarianism and to an imperative of self-replacement addressed to native populations, while they-the cosmopolitan elites-preserve their privileges and enclaves.

Their slogan is: “Replace yourselves”. Second person plural.

Historic First UK Muslim Mayor Helped Hide Son’s Rape of 15-Year-Old Girl

After being elected mayor, Naheed Ejaz read a passage from the Koran.

The Pakistani Muslim sex grooming gangs, we keep being told, are a fringe phenomenon and the rape of underage is in no way emblematic of the fine historic Pakistani Muslim UK mayors accused of helping allegedly hide their son’s rape of 15-year-old girls.

It was a night of firsts at Bracknell Forest Council on Wednesday (May 24) as it met following earthquake local elections earlier this month.

Councillors elected their first ever Asian woman mayor, their first woman leader and their first woman deputy leader in its 50-year existence. And it is the first Labour-run administration at the council since 1997.

Labour mayor Naheed Ejaz told the authority’s annual meeting women were “smashing the glass ceilings” and making history.

After being elected mayor, Naheed Ejaz, Labour councillor for Great Hollands ward, read a passage from the first chapter of the Quran, which she said was called “the opener – the key.”

“That’s what we are doing today,” she added. “We are opening a new chapter in Bracknell Forest Council’s history.

She opened a new Koran chapter, but she wouldn’t open the door for the police.

A former Labour mayor helped her son hide evidence of his alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl, a court has heard.

Naheed Ejaz, the former mayor of Bracknell in Berkshire, allegedly delayed police officers when they came to arrest 41-year-old Diwan Khan in September 2024.

Winchester Crown Court heard that she stopped officers entering her home for “some minutes” and spoke to her son in Urdu to “assist” him in concealing a phone, which contained a video of the alleged sex attack.

Khan is accused of giving the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, MDMA and vodka in June 2024 before raping her when she “blacked out”.

Prosecutors said that when she awoke in the back seat of his car without any clothes on, Khan showed her a video of him having sex with her, choking her and slapping her face.

Does that chapter of the Koran have any tips on hiding evidence or just Mohammed’s usual way of raping underage girls?

Epstein files expose links to transgender ideology’s wealthiest backers

Mug shot of Jeffrey Epstein Wikimedia Commons, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department. PD Florida

During an episode of his show on Tuesday, Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire drew attention to a number of emails between the serial sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein and prominent LGBT activists, which were released over the weekend in the U.S. Department of Justice’s document dump. All of the communications occurred after Epstein was convicted of “procuring a child for prostitution” and registered as a sex offender in 2008.

One email, from billionaire Tom Pritzker, was sent to Epstein in June 2011, jovially noting that he was in Afghanistan, ostensibly looking at investment opportunities, but, in reality, fulfilling “my birthday wish, with boys with toys” after being lent two choppers by General David Petraeus. Pritzker, Walsh noted, is one of the wealthy men pushing transgender ideology. As investigative journalist Jennifer Bilek told me in a 2024 interview on the billionaires behind the transgender industry:

The Pritzker family in Chicago is one of the richest families in America. Though their fortune evolved out of the Hyatt Hotel industry, their predominant investments now are in the medical-tech sector. Their massive philanthropic efforts have made them some of the biggest drivers/funders of the gender industry. Tim Gill of the Gill Foundation – the second largest LGBT NGO in America and connected to Jon Stryker and his family – contributes significantly as well, originally coming from the tech sector and now involved in a home AI platform business. The tech giants – Google, Intel, Microsoft, Facebook, Salesforce, Hewlett Packard, and Amazon – leverage their financial power both to fund this industry in body dissociation and also to browbeat entire states to accept the ideology by threatening the withdrawal of their capital. They did this in 2016, when they signed an amicus brief against North Carolina. After that the state insisted on bathroom privacy for boys and girls in schools.

Another email, this one from December 17, 2018, is from Robert Trivers, the famed American evolutionary biologist. In a truly chilling exchange, Trivers lays out the pseudo-scientific rationale behind the transgender experiment.

It is very simple – I will compare male to female with female to male. With greater molecular control over development we are increasingly capable of producing novel phenotypes – more feminine men, by blocking testosterone receptors (or castration) and, at the same time, increasing estrogen production – the one bocks male features, the second encourages female features. More masculine women – heavy testosterone dosage – incredible external effects, heavily bearded men, you would never guess they had a female bone in their body.

Trivers goes on to note, in terms too pornographic to reproduce here, the sexual difficulties and sexual fantasies associated with each kind of “transgender” person – male-to-female, female-to-male – and the way treatments permanently transform their bodies.

Trivers observes that males who undergo sex change surgeries post-puberty are frequently miserable and suggests that a solution is to medically intervene earlier. “(S)o you notice your 3-year-old son has trans tendencies, so now you intervene with hormones – I would be frightened to do that – but who knows?” Trivers writes.

The email details the thinking of the pioneers of transgender ideology as it developed – Trivers might have been “frightened” to give a 3-year-old cross-sex hormones or puberty blockers after the toddler displays “trans tendencies,” but the transgender movement swiftly got over such fears. “Transition” for children is now advocated as a human right by the LGBT movement and their political allies.

Another email, this one from Jess Ting on May 14, 2016. Ting is, as Walsh noted, “the trans surgeon who supposedly pioneered a new way to carve out fake female genitals in men.”

In the email, Ting pitches Epstein on support for a propaganda documentary pushing the transgender industry:

Hi Jeffrey,

I hope you are well. I have 2 things to tell you about:

1) The research you supported with a $50,000 grant has borne fruit. We have submitted a paper for publication summarizing our results. If you would like a outline of the results of the research, we can email one to you, or present to you in person.

2) I have been made surgical director of the brand new transgender surgery program at Mount Sinai. That’s right – Mount Sinai, being the progressive place that it is, saw am opportunity and need to take a leadership position in the area of Transgender Health and created the first full-spectrum academic program in the U.S. focused on transgender surgery and care.

This was such an interesting and innovative idea, that I thought it would make a good documentary. I pitched the idea to a well-known director and we have started scouting interviews and are in the process of making a fundraising trailer.

If I could just be really forward, I was wondering if you would be interested in supporting this documentary? If so, the producer, director and I would love to come and give you the pitch in person. This is an exciting, groundbreaking project – both the center and the documentary – that will do good for the world. I hope you can be a part of it.

Best regards,

Jess Ting

There is no record of Epstein’s response or whether he responded to Ting’s request for funding, but several years later a transgender propaganda documentary titled Born To Be, after Ting’s work in “transgender medicine,” was released to great acclaim.

Ting shows up hundreds of times in the Epstein files; according to one media outlet, the emails document “a yearslong relationship between Ting and Epstein that encompassed travel to Epstein’s private island, visits to his homes, coordination of medical care through Epstein’s staff, and direct outreach seeking Epstein’s support for research and for a new transgender surgery program at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.” Ting has claimed that the relationship was merely professional.

In responding to media questions about his long relationship with Epstein – which continued, based on the available emails, right through 2017 – Ting attempted to portray himself as an LGBT pioneer being attacked for his work. “Since creating this program in gender affirming surgery, I have been the subject of death threats, bomb threats, stalkers, and protestors,” he responded. “Despite that all, I remain committed to devoting my career to providing care to trans and nonbinary patients.” None of that, of course, explains why he spent so much time with a convicted sex offender and pedophile.

Neither Pritzker nor Trivers, who maintained friendly contact with Epstein long after his conviction for pedophilia, have publicly responded to these latest revelations.

Dutch government refuses to probe UK ban on Eva Vlaardingerbroek, declines to seek explanation from London

The Dutch government has refused to investigate or seek clarification from the United Kingdom after Dutch commentator Eva Vlaardingerbroek had her permission to travel to Britain revoked, confirming it has not even asked London for an explanation over the decision.

The position was set out in formal parliamentary responses from Foreign Affairs Minister Caspar Veldkamp’s ministry, delivered on Jan. 30 by Minister Van Weel, after questions were submitted by Lidewij de Vos, a Member of Parliament for the right-wing Forum for Democracy (FvD).

De Vos questioned the government over last month’s revocation of Vlaardingerbroek’s UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), which now prevents her from entering Britain without a visa. British authorities informed the commentator that her authorization had been canceled because her presence in the UK was deemed “not conducive to the public good,” and that the decision could not be appealed.

Asked whether the Dutch government had sought clarification from the British government or ambassador, the minister responded simply, “No.”

When pressed on whether the government would now demand an explanation, the minister replied that the Netherlands would not intervene in such cases, stating, “The Dutch government is not a party in this matter and does not engage with the United Kingdom regarding individual cases.”

“It is not for the Dutch government to judge or interfere in how legal remedies are structured under United Kingdom national legislation,” the minister added.

The responses mark the first official Dutch government reaction to the controversy, which has drawn attention internationally.

Vlaardingerbroek said she received notice of the ban shortly after posting criticism of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on social media. Reacting at the time on X, she wrote, “I’ve been banned from traveling to the UK. No reason given. No right to appeal. Zero due process. Just an email saying the UK government deems me ‘not conducive to the public good’ — exactly three days after I criticized Keir Starmer.

“I guess my point that the UK is no longer a free country has been indisputably proven,” she added.

The right-wing commentator later accused her own government of failing to defend one of its citizens, posting, “While Orbán, Salvini, and even the U.S. State Department spoke out about my UK travel ban, the Dutch government just came forward saying it sees no problem with the UK banning one of its citizens and is not going to take action. Always a pleasure to be able to count on one’s own government.”

The British government has not publicly commented on the individual case. However, officials have said ETA cancellations do not automatically amount to a permanent ban and that border decisions remain sovereign matters.

In its parliamentary reply, the Dutch government also stated that it could not establish from media reporting that Vlaardingerbroek’s opinions were the reason for the cancellation, adding that revoking an ETA is not legally the same as denying entry. It does, however, mean that the subject cannot enter the country without a visa and thus must formally apply for entry. Travel between the United Kingdom and the Netherlands is usually visa-free for nationals of the two countries.

During a recent conversation with former British prime minister Liz Truss, Vlaardingerbroek criticized what she described as double standards in British justice and immigration policy, saying, “It just confirms everything that everyone has been saying, two-tier Keir, two-tier justice.”

She added, “The fact that all the immigrants are allowed in without any questions asked, without papers, and they are given the free hotels, they are given everything for free.”

Truss also commented publicly on the case, writing on X, “People who tell the truth about what’s happening in Britain are banned from the country. People who come to the country to commit crime are allowed to stay.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán similarly expressed support, saying Vlaardingerbroek was “always welcome in Hungary.”

In its parliamentary responses, the Dutch government also declined to amend travel advice for the United Kingdom, stating it had received no signals of changing safety risks for Dutch travelers.

Starmer Faces Labour Rebellion over Plans to Give Gov’t Housing to Migrants

Screengrab youtube

The leftist Labour Party government is facing backlash from backbenchers over plans to prioritise migrants over Britons in newly built government housing.

Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer may be forced into another politically embarrassing U-turn, as a brewing rebellion from within his own party’s ranks is brewing over the already contentious issue of housing asylum seekers, many of whom entered the country illegally.

The government is seeking to move away from the Tory-era scheme of block booking hotels across the country to house migrants, which sparked nationwide protests following a spate of sexual assaults committed by foreign inhabitants against native women and girls. The government appears to believe the public objects not to the migrants themselves but the hotels, and that by moving the new arrivals into different forms of accommodation the controversy will evaporate.

One scheme as a potential alternative to hotels is a programme to create new council housing by building new buildings or refurbishing derelict properties to house migrants.

However, this has raised the issue of the 1.3 million low-income families in Britain currently on government waiting lists for council housing, with some Labour MPs vowing to rebel against the plan unless their constituents are given priority over migrants.

Labour MP for Hartlepool, Jonathan Brash, told the Daily Mail: “We have an acute shortage of council housing, with local families and key workers stuck on waiting lists or in temporary accommodation.

“Any programme to build new social homes should be focused first and foremost on meeting that local need.”

Blackley and Middleton South Labour MP, Graham Stringer, added that the scheme is “unacceptable” given the “shortage of council housing that should be going to local people.”

One Labour MP, who spoke to the paper anonymously, predicted that the scheme “will go down awfully” in the so-called Red Wall seats of the country that traditionally backed Labour but have increasingly sided with Nigel Farage’s anti-mass migration Reform UK party.

“I’ve told the Home Office I’m against it and they need to U-turn on it in my seat,” the MP said. “My problem is they won’t become council houses for years and when you have … a waiting list of 10,000 people – they will feel asylum seekers will be prioritised – never mind the loss of houses in our area.”

At present, the government is housing around 36,000 asylum seekers in hotels throughout Britain, a figure which is likely to continue to rise in light of the over 41,000 illegal migrants who reached the UK by crossing the English Channel from France last year.

One Labour MP, who spoke to the paper anonymously, predicted that the scheme “will go down awfully” in the so-called Red Wall seats of the country that traditionally backed Labour but have increasingly sided with Nigel Farage’s anti-mass migration Reform UK party.

An assessment from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government reportedly warned: “The proposal [to house migrants] may give rise to anxiety amongst local residents, which may be adversely affected by protesters/demonstrators or riots.”

Indeed, it is already clear buying up property in communities has already created new community grievances which can also lead to protests. As reported at the time of the Ballymena protests last summer, in analysis of the social and economic issues which built the pyre sparked by another sex assault, local journalist Dougie Beattie revealed:

…the alleged attack on a 14 year old girl, now that isn’t what is at the very heart of this problem… There are other problems in social housing in Northern Ireland… the [government’s contractor] has bought up contracts with all the private landlords and what that has done is reduced the housing stock, but it has also… set up the price of rent much, much higher.

Because of course the [government] pays much, much more than an ordinary person going to hire a house… [the government’s contractor] has offered all the private landlords twice the rent in order to keep these migrants because, of course, the government is giving them big money to get them out of the hotels.

So what’s happened is the people of Ballymena that lived here, born here, actually can’t get housed here and that too is causing friction in this area.

Censorship Concerns Rise as Police Raid Musk’s X Offices in Paris

French authorities have searched the Paris offices of X and summoned the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, in a move that has intensified concerns over state pressure on online speech.

The raid—carried out on February 3rd by French cybercrime investigators with the involvement of Europol—forms part of an investigation into whether X’s recommendation algorithm was used to influence domestic politics. The probe was opened last year after a lawmaker from President Emmanuel Macron’s party accused Musk of improper “personal interventions” in the platform’s management.

French economist Philippe Murer described the accusations against the platform as “extremely serious,” adding that officials “want to censor Twitter and eliminate freedom of expression.”

Swedish journalist Peter Imanuelsen added that searches like those carried out against X are “what happens in Europe when you don’t bow down to censorship.”

Pavel Durov, CEO of the messaging service Telegram, has previously condemned French officials, and the EU more broadly, for waging a political campaign to silence dissent and tighten state control over digital platforms. Following today’s raids, he said that “France is the only country in the world that is criminally persecuting all social networks that give people some degree of freedom (Telegram, X, TikTok…),” adding:

Don’t be mistaken: this is not a free country.

Musk has yet to publicly comment on the searches, and on his call-up for a ‘voluntary interview’ with French prosecutors.

The raid comes as Britain’s data regulator opened a probe into X over sexual imagery generated by artificial intelligence. Officials said “the reported creation and circulation of such content raises serious concerns under UK data protection law and presents a risk of significant potential harm to the public.”

French Far-Left Leader Mélenchon Celebrates the ‘Great Replacement’ for a New France

A political taboo long enforced across Europe fractured this week when French far-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon openly invoked the term “Great Replacement” during a municipal campaign event—language left-liberals, globalists, and pro-mass migration activists have spent years condemning as dangerous “conspiracy theory.”

Speaking in support of La France Insoumise (LFI) candidate François Piquemal, Mélenchon addressed critics on the conservative-nationalist right by declaring, “Yes, Mr. Zemmour, yes, Mr. Bayrou, there is a ‘Great Replacement.’” The remark stunned observers, given the French left’s long-standing effort to criminalize or censor the term.

Mélenchon, being the clever politician that he is, attempted to soften the impact by redefining the phrase as a matter of generational change rather than immigration. He said the “Great Replacement” simply described “a generation which comes after another,” calling it a natural process that has existed “since the dawn of time.”

Yet Mélenchon went further, explicitly linking the concept to his party’s political ambitions. He said upcoming municipal elections should demonstrate LFI’s ability to “embody the new France, that of the Great Replacement,” framing demographic transformation as an electoral asset rather than a concern.

Conservative figures immediately saw and highlighted the comments as a blatant admission. Reconquête founder Éric Zemmour said Sunday that Mélenchon had confirmed what critics have argued for years.

“He finally admits it,” Zemmour said. “La France Insoumise is the party of the Great Replacement.” Zemmour added that Mélenchon is openly staking his political future on immigrant-heavy urban districts.
National Rally president Jordan Bardella echoed the criticism, accusing Mélenchon of promoting “community fragmentation” and empowering political Islam under the banner of diversity.

Mélenchon, for his part, responded dismissively on social media, comparing demographic change to leadership succession. “Jean-Marie Le Pen was replaced by you,” he told Bardella, calling it “the mechanism of life.”
The controversy is not confined to France. Across Europe, left-wing parties that once denied demographic change are increasingly reframing it as inevitable—and desirable.

In Spain, leading figures from the radical-left Podemos party have made similar remarks. Senior Podemos politicians have spoken of Spain becoming a “plurinational” and “post-traditional” society, with some explicitly celebrating large-scale demographic transformation driven by mass immigration as a political necessity.

Last week, a video out of Spain, circulated widely online, drawing attention well beyond the country’s borders and reigniting debate over how parts of Europe’s radical left approach immigration policy. The clip has intensified claims that, for some political actors, migration is viewed not merely as a social issue but as a mechanism for long-term electoral change.

One prominent Podemos figure previously described mass migration as essential to building a “new Spain,” remarks widely interpreted by critics as endorsing population replacement while dismissing native cultural continuity as obsolete.

The video features Irene Montero, a senior figure in Spain’s far-left Podemos, a former equality minister, and a current member of the European Parliament (MEP), speaking at a public event. In her remarks, Montero said she hoped immigration would help “sweep this country of fascists and racists,” language that critics say suggests an intent to reshape the electorate through demographic transformation.

After spreading on X, the footage quickly went viral, amassing more than five million views and becoming a flashpoint in wider European political discussion.

Like Mélenchon, Spain’s radical left has attempted to rebrand these statements as inclusive or progressive, while continuing to label critics as extremists or conspiracists.

The shift reflects a broader European trend: denial has given way to normalization. What was once dismissed outright is now being reinterpreted, repackaged, and integrated into campaign messaging—especially in urban districts transformed by decades of mass immigration.

For years, the phrase “Great Replacement” was treated as radioactive across Western politics. Journalists, academics, and politicians insisted demographic change was either imaginary or irrelevant. Now, leading figures on the left are openly discussing and celebrating it—while attempting to control the narrative.

Ban on road salt puts Berliners on a slippery slope

Illustration GROK

For days on end pedestrians in Berlin have had a difficult time moving around the German capital.

Exceptionally wintry weather has turned many sidewalks in the German capital into skating rinks – and little relief is possible as the city has banned the use of road salt.

As one Berliner told Brussels Signal today: “You cannot leave the house anymore without risking slipping on ice that is inches thick. It is all over the pavements and cycle paths and the city is doing very little to fight it with a bit of grit.

“People with disabilities are dependent on external help because they can no longer leave their homes. I have also had several close calls. It is pure luck that nothing has happened to me so far.”

Not everybody has been so lucky. According to media reports 30 to 40 people have needed to be treated daily for “accidents caused by slippery conditions” in Berlin’s largest trauma hospital alone – primarily for broken wrists and hand bones as well as concussions.

A spokesperson for the hospital recommended Berliners use the “penguin walk”, shuffling about in very small steps like the Antarctic animals, to avoid accidents.

Spikes for walking shoes sold out in the capital, according to Nils Busch-Petersen on January 31, manager of the Berlin Trade Association. Some Berliners are now pulling socks over their shoes to improve their grip on ice.

The slippery malaise is compounded by a long-standing ban on the use of road salt.

Berlin’s Nature Protection Law from 2013 expressly forbids the use of road salt or other defrosting agents throughout the city. The ban covers pavements and driveways as well as public roads.

There is derogation from the ban in Berlin’s Street Cleaning Act in case of “extreme slipperiness” but it only applies to roadways and cycle paths. Pavements are not covered by the exemption.

“Road salt is a real danger for trees,” the City of Berlin explains on its website. “Anyone who wants to clear paths of ice and snow by using road salt, accepts that this will irrevocably damage the trees.

“The salt accumulates in the soil and then in the roots of the trees which are no longer adequately nourished and die.”

Infractions of the ban carry fines of up to €10,000.

On January 30, Berlin’s city senate announced an emergency rule allowing the use of road salt on sidewalks despite the legal ban. The intended liberating move, though, was immediately challenged as the Berlin Greens party. Influential environmental NGO Nabu announced it would examine whether the emergency regulation was even legal.

The exceptionally cold weather that has the German capital in its grip is expected to last for another week at least.

Berliners who want to escape the dangers of walking by taking the bus or the subway are in for a tough time too: yesterday, a  strike by union Ver.di shut down the city’s public transportation system almost completely.
