Macron’s Grim Wishes for a Year of Misery

French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a sombre message for 2026 during his official New Year’s address, which was met with coldness and consternation. He made the euthanasia vote one of his main objectives for the new year—as if programmed death has become the only horizon for the country he is increasingly struggling to destroy.

The president appeared in an unflattering setting, cramped in an overly tight suit that restricted his movements. His jerky delivery made him seem unnatural. True to his habits, he began by congratulating himself on hypothetical successes while absolving himself of any responsibility for the country’s failures—which he dismissed as mere “flaws” entirely dependent on external factors, such as “war” or “the return of empires.” At most, he consented to express a few “doubts.”

The salient feature of the French president’s speech is certainly his inability to think in terms of political deadlines. While the French are calling for their destiny to be returned to their own hands—either through dissolution or the president’s resignation—Macron preferred to evoke the vague concept of “useful political time” to explain that he intended to work energetically until the end of his term, which is due to end in spring 2027. Offering up a list of half-hearted measures and promises—some of which have been around since his first election in 2017—the president appeared lost and directionless. Just a year ago, he promised to consult the French people. A year later, his promise of direct democracy has gone unfulfilled.

His next projects include implementing the new national service, regulating access to social media for minors, and finally, finalising the end-of-life bill. A dull and inglorious horizon: a national service that is a shadow of its former self; social media regulations that are part of a broader strategy of ever-tighter control of information; and, finally, a societal advance that rhymes with death.

There is, of course, a whole symbolism here. Is the future of Macron’s France now to ‘die with dignity,’ which, let’s be clear, means in despair, human contempt and budgetary austerity? This may cynically be the only way Macron and his teams have found to restore public finances, since, as a professor working in intensive care at a public hospital explained to the press on December 19th, welcoming the ongoing debates on the subject: “Resuscitating everyone is not sustainable in financial terms, nor in human terms, and even less so in ethical terms.”

The incantations that are inseparable from the exercise of wishes—“unity, strength and independence”—have once again revealed the contradictions of a president who has neither the desire nor the energy to fight. He calls for independence while claiming to want to act “as a European,” even though his voice no longer carries weight, either in France or in Brussels, and he has never been so isolated among the heads of state and government of the member states.

Fifteen months before the deadline, Macron has already announced—something everyone already knows, since the constitution does not allow it—that he will not run in the 2027 presidential election. Coming from him, this unnecessary announcement sounded like an admission of failure. April 2027 will above all be a time of reckoning for him, and the campaign, we must wait and hope, should finally allow the truth to be told about the countless lies and failures of his presidency.

The New Year’s address was harshly judged: “sad,” “disappointing.” For several years now, the audience for this obligatory television appearance—all channels broadcast it, so it is impossible to avoid it by switching from one programme to another—has been in free fall. According to figures published by Médiamétrie, 8.9 million viewers watched the President’s New Year’s address. This is less than in 2024 and even less than in 2023. Close observation of viewers’ behaviour shows that they deserted the presidential address within the first few minutes… only to return en masse to their screens as soon as the president’s speech was over.

“Who cares about this litany of announcements that have already been betrayed a hundred times and empty words? He himself seemed ready to fall asleep while speaking. Something is broken in him and in the country,” thundered Jean-Luc Mélenchon, president of La France Insoumise, on X, with stark brutality in his words.

On the Right, in the Rassemblement National (RN), elected officials said they were struck by the degree of disconnect of President Macron, who dared to congratulate himself on the good results of the French economy: “an imaginary balance sheet,” according to MP Edwige Diaz. The final word undoubtedly goes to Éric Ciotti, president of the Union des Droites pour la République (UDR), allied with the RN: “The only wish we can make for France is for him to leave so that national recovery can begin,” he concluded.

Syrian Suspects in Face-Slashing of American Tourist in Germany Finally Charged

Two Syrian migrants who allegedly attacked and cut up the face of an American tourist who is said to have gone to the aid of young women being harassed by the pair have, months later, been charged by prosecutors.

Dresden prosecutors have charged two men, both 21-year-old Syrian migrants, in one cade of dangerous bodily harm and in the other grievous bodily harm. Separately the men, who already have prior convictions for what Die Welt states are “minor” crimes, are also accused of several counts of assault and aggravated robbery.

The charges come months after the alleged August 24th assault. According to reporting at the time, 20-year-old New York model John Rudat was travelling on a tram through the picturesque city-centre of eastern European city Dresden when he witnessed two men harassing girls on the carriage.

Stepping in on behalf of the females, it is alleged the two Syrian migrant suspects took exception to being interrupted, and attacked the tourist. One of the men is alleged to have beaten Rudat while the other is said to have drawn a knife and slashed it across his face, causing deep cuts to his nose, lips, and mouth. Shortly after the attack, German police accidentally released one of the suspects.

Rudat spoke out from hospital after the alleged attack, decrying Germany’s immigration problem. In one statement he reflected: “…if ya’ll didn’t’ think that Europe has an immigration problem, specifically an integration problem, let me drop some knowledge on you… if they can do this to the people of Germany and then just get released 12 hours later, even less at this point, where’s the law? Where’s the structure? … what do we do?”.

A contemporary report states he thought the attack wasn’t a simple brawl, and claimed that the suspect was on drugs and “wanted to kill me”. Rudat said: “He had this completely insane look in his eyes… Suddenly I heard the click of a knife – and before I knew it, he cut my nose.”

More Than 1,000 Cars Burned in France, as New Years’ Eve ‘Celebrations’ in Europe Turn Into a ‘Fireworks War’ Between Migrants and Police (VIDEOS)

Cars burning on NYE: Macron is presiding over the destruction of France.

The suicidal policy of unchecked mass migration is takings its toll on the European nations.

Among the multiple problems, there’s the fact that the New Years ‘celebrations’ have turned into an excuse for violent migrants to attack police, firefighters and commons citizens with fireworks, turning it into a war.

As Jim Hoft reported previously here on TGP, in Amsterdam a secular church was destroyed by fire as a result of these firework rampage.

In France, where some of the NYE events were cancelled, the situation worsened considerably compared to last year.

Proto Thema reported:

“More than a thousand vehicles were set on fire and more than 400 people, the majority of which according to sources are illegal immigrants, were arrested in France during New Year’s Eve, the Ministry of the Interior announced yesterday, Thursday (1).”

“In total, ‘505 individuals were taken into custody’, and in 403 cases the detentions were converted into arrests and pretrial detention, the French ministry explained, referring – surprisingly – to a night that was ‘calmer’ than that of 2025, since, as it noted, ‘more limited urban unrest’ was recorded.”

A South African Betrayal

In 2015, South Africa’s ruling African National Congress refused to implement the arrest warrant issued for genocide by the International Criminal Court against Sudan’s then President Omar Al-Bashir when he visited South Africa — a “shameful failure”, as reported by Amnesty International. On January 4, 2024, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa continued this alliance when he welcomed Bashir’s military appointee, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (“Hemedti”), the commander of Sudan’s murderous and genocidal militia, the Rapid Support Forces. Pictured: Al-Bashir. Wikimedia Commons, khamenei.ir, CC-BY-4.0

The African National Congress (ANC) government in South Africa has a shameful record in its response to the worst genocidal and racist crisis now continuing in Africa.

“Is South Africa’s voice… loud enough in addressing the recent conflict in Sudan?” asked journalist Nkanyezi Ndlovu recently. “While condemnation [of the war in Sudan] is noted, what other diplomatic steps has South Africa taken, not only as an African superpower but also as the current G20 President?”

These are crucial points, but reflecting on the people of South Africa’s response to what Ndlovu accurately calls the “humanitarian crisis” in Sudan, the reality is far more damning.

First, it is essential to remember that when Jacob Zuma was president between 2009-2018, with Cyril Ramaphosa his deputy president (2014-2018), the ANC government refused to implement the arrest warrant issued for genocide by the International Criminal Court against Sudan’s then President Omar Al-Bashir when he visited South Africa in June 2015 — a “shameful failure”, as reported by Amnesty International. Effectively, on this issue, the ANC government aligned itself with Bashir in opposition to the ICC.

On January 4, 2024, President Cyril Ramaphosa continued this effective political alliance when, in Pretoria, he welcomed Bashir’s military appointee, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (known as “Hemedti”), the commander of Sudan’s murderous and genocidal militia, the Rapid Support Forces.

The British historian Justin Marozzi in 2025 published an essential book, Captives and Companions: A History of Slavery and the Slave Trade in the Islamic World. Marozzi, fluent in Arabic, summed up his understanding of the Sudan issue in “The shocking truth about slavery in the Islamic world today”, published in London’s Daily Telegraph on July 3, 2025. The article begins:

“Up to 17 million people have passed through the slave trade in the Muslim world since the 7th century. Tragically, the practice lives on.”

In his book, Marozzi makes it clear that nowhere else on the continent more than Sudan — right up to today — have black Africans suffered for so long under a foreign colonialist and imperialist power, and its descendants. The following is a long but crucial passage from Captives and Companions (pp. 332-34):

“Slavery in Sudan long preceded the Ottomans [masters of Turkey and the Ottoman empire since the 15th century]. It antedated Islam by more than a millennium. One of the earliest references to it comes from Herodotus, writing in the fifth century BCE. Discussing the Persian Great King Cambyses’ invasion of Egypt in 525 BCE, the Greek historian recorded that the biennial tribute imposed on the ancient kingdom of Kush (northern Sudan and southern Egypt) included five ‘Ethiopian’ slave boys.

“In 652, almost 1,200 years later, the conquering, faith-spreading Muslim Arabs struck their first diplomatic treaty in this region. According to Al Maqrizi, the fifteenth century Egyptian historian, the Baqt treaty … imposed an annual payment of 360 slaves on the Christian kingdom of Nubia [based along the Nile river]…. By 1877, when there were said to be upwards of 6,000 slave-traders operating in the region, the British government estimated in a report to the Egyptian authoriities that around 30,000 slaves per annum were being sent across the Red Sea from the East African coast to the Arabian peninsula alone.

“In the mid-tenth century, the Coptic [Christian] Bishop of Al Ashmunain, Severus Ibn al Muqaffa (d. 987), reported that Muslims were plundering and enslaving and selling their captives in Egyptian markets….

“When Muslim states started to be established along the central Nile and Sudanic states from the sixteenth century, they took up where their pagan and Christian predecessors left off, raiding along their borders and enslaving their neighbours. For Arabic-speakers along the Nile Valley, both the terms Nubi (Nubian) and Sudani (Sudanese), meaning black, were synonymous with ‘slave’. Bilad al Sudan, the Land of the Blacks, referred to all sub-Saharan territories in general, but it is from that Arabic term that the nation of Sudan takes its name.

“A lasting and painful irony, which has had baleful consequences, is that the northern Arab Sudanese do not consider themselves black, reserving that pejorative term for their dark-skinned Sudanese and South Sudanese compatriots, in addition to Africans from further afield, who for centuries they enslaved.

“The great arterial link between Egypt and Sudan, the enduring commercial thread that bound these two states together in a nexus of slaving as the market and source for enslaved Africans respectively, was the Darb al Arbain, as the Arabs knew it, the Forty Days’ Road. The easternmost of the great north-south trans-Saharan routes, this was an 1,100-mile road from Kobbei in Darfur to Upper Egypt, running through a string of oases so that water was always available within two to three days.

“Like slavery itself, the Darb al Arbain long predated Muslim Arabs and was trodden successively by Egyptian pharaohs, Persian temple-planners, Macedonian invaders, fort-building Romans and Ottoman traders. Caravans of camels – groaning under loads of elephant and hippopotamus ivory, rhinoceros horn, gold, ostrich feathers and eggs, animals skins, plants, civet, aromatic oils, incense and gum Arabic, salt, alum, natron and cowrie shells – dutifully padded alongside lines of African slaves on foot, often in chains, togther with the odd ‘exotic’ animals destined for a royal court. They plied the track towards Egypt….

“Conditions for the slaves along the Darb al Arbain varied from humane to appalling.”

Then followed the disgraceful betrayal of the black Africans of Sudan by the government of the African National Congress, with Cyril Ramaphosa both as deputy president (2014-2018) and as president, up to today.

“By the dying years of the twentieth century… slavery was once again thriving in Sudan.

“For the National Islamic Front of Omar al-Bashir, the then president of Sudan (in office 1993-2019), it was an effective weapon of war against his black southern Sudanese compatriots. From 1989 to 2011 he presided over the systematic enslavement of Sudanese and South Sudanese from the border region, arming, financing, transporting and supporting slave-taking militia raids into the Nuba Mountains, Abyei and [19th century Arab slave-master] Zubayr’s former stronghold of Bahr al Ghazal.

“Men were routinely killed, women and children enslaved. Boys were trafficked to Libya, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Non-Muslims were forcibly converted to Islam, and existing Muslims were forcibly Arabized. They were sold into the slave trade, renamed and forced to travel hundreds of miles from home, separated from their families, beaten, abused and foced to work for no pay. Many of the women and children were subjected to sexual abuse and torture.

“When the country split in 2011, it was estimated that over 35,000 South Sudanese people remained enslaved in Sudan. In Darfur the Janjaweed militia ran amok, committing numerous atrocities. One eyewitness, Neimat al Mahdi, recalled how the Janjaweed would enter the village of an African tribe, kill all the men and rape the women, mocking them afterwards with the age-old racial slur: ‘You should celebrate, you slave. You are going to give birth to an Arab.’

“The International Criminal Court issued two arrest warrants for Bashir in 2009 and 2010, the first time a sitting head of state had been indicted by the ICC. The court quoted the perpetrators of attacks aganst civilians, especially from the Fur, Masaalit and Zaghawa tribes, telling their victims: ‘the Fur are slaves, we will kill them’; ‘You are Zaghawa tribes, you are slaves’; ‘we are here to eradicate blacks (nuba )’.

“Bashir is accused of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide in Darfur. At the time of writing, reportedly he remains held in a hospital in Merowe, 200 miles north of Khartoum, and is one of the ICC’s longest-running fugitives from justice.

“Whichever way you looked across the nineteenth-century Dar al Islam [“Land of Islam”], slavery coolly returned your gaze.” (pp. 353-54)

Sadly, in the Qur’an, slavery is condoned and used as a justification for rapemale control of women, and other abuse.

“He gives you this example, drawn from your own lives: do you make your slaves full partners with an equal share in what We have given you?” (Qur’an 30:20, Abdel Haleem translation)

“Allah makes this comparison. On the one hand there is a helpless slave, the property of his master. On the other, a man on whom We have bestowed Our bounty, so that he gives it both in private and in public. Are the two alike? Allah forbid! Most men have no knowledge.” (Qur’an 16:75, N.J. Dawood translation)

South Africans need to reflect on this. There is a moral duty for South Africans to acknowledge the 14 centuries of Islamic jihad against black Africans, and its genocidal character — not least since the massacre by Islamists of unarmed Jewish civilians in Sydney, Australia on December 13, while celebrating the religious festival of Chanukah.

UK: ‘Sick joke!’ Justice Secretary hands Islamist double killer £250,000 of taxpayers’ cash

Justice Secretary David Lammy. Screengrab youtube

An Islamist who murdered two people and held a prison officer hostage has been handed nearly £250,000 of taxpayer-funded compensation and legal costs.

Fuad Awale is serving a life sentence | TVP

Fuad Awale is serving a life sentence for shooting two teenagers in the head in what a judge described as a planned “execution” in Milton Keynes’ Fishermead Estate in May 2011.

He then went on to ambush a prison officer and threatened to kill him unless Britain released hate preacher Abu Qatada.

After being moved to a special separation unit, he claimed this segregation had breached his right to a private life under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), suggesting he had suffered “severe depression” as a result of being denied contact with other inmates.

Now, Justice Secretary David Lammy has agreed to pay £7,500 in compensation and foot a £234,000 legal bill after a judge ruled that his treatment in jail breached his human rights.

The judge said: “The degree of interference with the claimant’s private life which has resulted from his removal from association has been of some significance and duration.”

During a hearing, the court was told Awale had been held in HMP Woodhill since 2021 and had not associated with any other prisoners since March 17, 2023, spending as little as one hour a day outside his cell.

His lawyers argued the decisions to deny association were “opaque”, he had been denied the chance to argue his case and prison managers had failed to regularly review his segregated conditions as required by law, reports The Telegraph.

A letter written by Mr Lammy, to his Conservative counterpart Robert Jenrick explaining the fees, said the £7,500 compensation sum was a “modest proportion” of the overall settlement.

He added it had been contested by the Ministry of Justice as was the case with “all litigation by prisoners convicted of terrorist offences”.

A review by the terror watchdog Jonathan Hall KC is currently being assessed which, alongside recommending an appeal into the Awale ruling, would look at how security could be improved after an alleged knife attack on three prison officers by Manchester Arena bomb plotter Hashem Abedi.

Mr Lammy told Mr Jenrick: “I can assure you that significant policy and operational changes are under active consideration to ensure that the legal framework regarding the placement in separation remains robust, relevant and trusted.”

Mr Jenrick was quick to criticise Labour over the payment.

He wrote on social media: “Lammy put the ECHR above the safety of officers and the interests of the British people. It’s one of the most shameful acts by a Minister in recent times.

“Lammy could have appealed the courts decision to award compensation and costs. He didn’t. Lammy could have brought forward emergency legislation as I urged him to do. He didn’t.

“Instead he cowed to one of the most despicable terrorists in Britain and handed him a massive payout.”

Awale was sentenced to a minimum of 38 years prison in January 2013 after killing Mohammed Abdi Farah and Amin Ahmed Ismail in an alleyway over a drugs dispute.

In 2013, just days after the murder of British Army soldier Lee Rigby by Islamist terrorists Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale in Woolwich, southeast London, Awale took a prison officer hostage and made threats to kill him.

He pointed a sharp implement at the throat of the officer who was pinned to a chair and said: “Stop struggling, I’ve killed two people, I’ll kill you.”

The ECHR court heard how, following his isolation, Awale had asked to associate with one of Mr Rigby’s killers but was denied the request owing to “counter-terrorism concerns.”

Mr Jenrick and Mr Lammy previously clashed over the issue in the Commons.

The Shadow Justice Secretary said: “Fuad Awale is an extremist and double murderer who later took a prison officer hostage and demanded the release of the radical cleric Abu Qatada. He is the definition of evil.

“And yet the Justice Secretary’s department is now set to pay him compensation as his ECHR rights have apparently been infringed because he couldn’t associate with monsters like those who killed Lee Rigby. Will the Justice Secretary ensure not a single penny of taxpayers’ money is handed over to this man?

“And if he won’t, and he put our membership of the ECHR above the interests of the British people, will he put his money where his mouth is and pay any so-called compensation himself?”

Mr Lammy replied: “I know that the Rt Hon gentleman is always keen to get headlines but he knows that the consequences of judgments and what then impacts on government and any payments made have been an issue for successive governments for the entire time that he and I have been on the planet.

“He knows that we’re committed to the ECHR, offering asylum to those who are genuinely fleeing torture and execution.

“But he knows too that on the issues I referred to earlier, Article 8 in particular and what we can do domestically and how we can work domestically, we are seeking to do that.

“So this is not the time to start effectively revising decisions that have been made by our courts.”

WATCH: Leftist German Streamer Kunshikitty Sets Out To Prove That New Year’s Eve in Cologne Is Perfectly Safe for a Single Woman – Gets Repeatedly Attacked on Camera!

Kunshikitty attacked repeatedly on camera.

No surprises, except for the adventurous young woman who was proven wrong in a painful way.

Almost everyone recognizes, by now, how the suicidal policies of unchecked mass migration have frayed the European nations’ social fabric, and submitted women and children to a torrent of crime and abuse that only in the future will people have the real, catastrophic dimension.

But still, many young women let their leftism blind them to the obvious realities of life.

Case in point, a German Twitch streamer called Kunshikitty wanted to demonstrate, in Cologne, that women can safely walk through the cheerful ‘groups of men’ during the New Year’s Eve ‘celebrations.’

The young woman, who has over 220,000 followers, was hit by what some described as ‘Knallerbsen bang snaps’ during her broadcast on December 31.

Young woman in a black beret and pink outfit poses with a smartphone, showing off her playful expression and stylish nails in a mirror selfie.
Kunshikitty – Social media X.

The clips gained millions of views with calls for deportations, as normal people were quick to make the obvious link of the incident to the reality of the rampant migrant violence, referencing Cologne’s 2015 assaults.

Yes, because in 2015 things were WAY worse.

The New Year’s Eve 2015 in Cologne became a tragedy where large groups of North African and Arab men surrounded, groped, robbed, and sexually assaulted hundreds of women in a coordinated manner.

It’s estimated that around 500–650 women were victims of severe groping, sexual assault, and several rapes, while many more incidents involved theft combined with harassment.

So, in the end, Kunshikitty didn’t have it so bad, comparatively.

She downplayed it as ‘a minor hit from an old jerk’, and urged fans to ignore what happened.

This, amid Germany’s chaotic NYE with a myriad of attacks on police and firefighters.

The Zabjelo Uprising: Fears of Turkish Neo-Ottomanism in Montenegro

In late October 2025, a stabbing incident in Podgorica’s Zabjelo neighborhood sparked widespread protests and unrest in Montenegro, highlighting tensions over immigration, particularly from Turkey. On October 25, 2025, a 25-year-old local man, identified as M.J., was stabbed multiple times during an altercation outside a bar. Police investigations implicated foreign nationals—initial reports mentioned three Azerbaijanis and one Turkish citizen.

This led to the arrests of suspects (one Azerbaijani and one Turkish) and the detention of around 45 Turkish and Azerbaijani individuals for questioning on residency and potential involvement. Several faced deportation or fines. Prior complaints about migrant-related disturbances, including traffic violations and crime, had fueled resentment.

Citizens accused authorities of downplaying incidents to preserve diplomatic relations and economic benefits from investment schemes. Social media amplified these grievances, often facing censorship. The next day, hundreds gathered in Zabjelo, chanting anti-Turkish slogans and lighting flares. Protesters vandalized vehicles with Turkish plates, ransacked a Turkish-owned bar, and targeted other symbols of Turkish presence. Three Turkish citizens sought shelter in a casino before police intervened.

Demonstrations spread to government buildings, demanding visa restrictions. In response, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić announced a temporary suspension of the visa-free regime for Turkish citizens on October 27, 2025, to maintain public order while reviewing controls. Protests continued into early November, with smaller rallies and online campaigns.

Beyond the incident, the unrest reflected deeper anxieties about rapid Turkish migration. Official figures as of September 2025 showed over 13,300 Turkish citizens with temporary residence or work permits, dwarfing the native Turkish minority (about 1,800). Many arrived via golden visa programs requiring investments (e.g., €250,000 in real estate). Critics alleged that corruption, fictitious companies, and inconsistent enforcement inflated actual numbers.

Turkish buyers have acquired significant real estate, transforming neighborhoods and inflating prices, seen by locals as demographic shifts rather than mere investment.

Central to these fears is Turkey’s neo-Ottoman foreign policy under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, aiming to revive influence in former Ottoman territories. Agencies like TIKA and Diyanet fund mosques and cultural centers, while Erdoğan emphasizes Balkan ties. Migration, via economic settlers and investors, is viewed by critics as a tool for cultural and demographic influence, shifting the region from its European heritage.

In Montenegro (population approximately 633,000; about the size of Riga, Latvia, or Palermo, Italy), with a delicate multi-ethnic balance—native Muslims (Bosniaks, Albanians) coexisting moderately with Orthodox and Catholic majorities—an influx of conservative Turks raises concerns about radicalization, sectarian divides, and political shifts.

Protesters in Zabjelo voiced fears of losing national identity to historical Ottoman echoes through ‘peaceful’ demographic and economic means.

While visa suspension and stricter controls are steps forward, some argue broader action is needed: tying Western aid to migration oversight, sanctioning corruption, and countering Neo-Ottomanism Turkish influence.

The Zabjelo events signal alarm over identity and sovereignty in a vulnerable nation.

Ten Years On, German Elite Still Plays Down 2015 Cologne New Year’s Eve Migrant Sex Attacks

Cologne‘s Bahnhofsvorplatz between the central railway stati (left) and the city’s cathedral (right) was the main site of the sexual assaults and robberies on New Year’s Eve 2015–16. © Superbass / CC-BY-SA-4.0 (via Wikimedia Commons)

Over 1,000 women were sexually assaulted and raped across Germany’s major cities exactly ten years ago today, in an enormous and apparently coordinated act of violence by recently arrived migrant men, the nature and causes of which are still the subject of attempted obfuscation to this day.

The North African origins of the perpetrators of the infamous mass rapes and sex assaults seen in German cities on New Year’s Eve 2015-16 were not “a criminogenic factor”, a German academic has asserted, but rather were a function of radical “masculinity”. The remarkable comments come as the nation looks back ten years on to an event that both darkened the lives of a huge number of young women and changed the course of political history as it became “a turning point in the debate about refugees”.

The attacks — which were initially unreported in the German national media — were first brought to global attention by Breitbart News and saw women in practically every major German city set upon by gangs of migrant males. There were over 1,300 people targeted in the city of Cologne alone, primarily women. Of them, 600 women were sexually assaulted and 28 raped, while still more were beaten and robbed.

One 18-year-old woman was reported to have had an abortion after falling pregnant from being raped alongside another woman on the floor in the square between the Cologne Cathedral and the city’s central railway station.

Nationwide, over 1,200 women are reported to have been sexually assaulted in just one night. Although there were said to have been over a thousand perpetrators, the vast majority were never traced, and a decade later, just 39 convictions have been secured. Only two of those were for sexual assaultit is reported.

Early eyewitness accounts, which were borne out much later by police investigations and arrests, stated the perpetrators were overwhelmingly men of North African origin, mainly of Moroccan and Algerian extraction. Compounding the scandal of the attacks, were Angela Merkel government’s policies, which had brought the perpetrators to the country only months before, and the astonishing failures of the police to even realise what was happening at the time and what was widely claimed to have been an attempted cover-up.

The Cologne police command centre rejected the support of reserve officers held nearby and dismissed them home on the evening of the attacks, even as their own officers struggled to contain the chaos on the Cathedral square. The following morning, the force published a cheerful press release stating the night had passed off “peacefully” and without incident.

Broadcaster WDR notes then-Federal Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière acknowledged the attacks were “a turning point in the debate about refugees in Germany” and changed the course of German political history, setting migrant-critical party the AfD up for greater successes and ushering support for stricter migration policies in the years that followed. Evidently the narrative created on that night ten years ago remains difficult for left-wing pro-migration politics and activists, and attempts to revise history continue.

As reported by German broadsheet Die Welt, Hamburg-based police researcher Rafael Behr, a former professor of police science at the Hamburg Police Academy, used the anniversary to put forward his particular theories. The paper states he told WDR5 radio that the perpetrators having Arab or North African origins is not from a criminological point of view, “a criminogenic factor”.

Instead, he asserted: “I would summarize it as a radically uprooted masculinity”.

Behr rejected the German police shorthand for “North African Repeat Offender”, ‘NAFRI’, as unhelpful and said instead the Cologne attacks should be seen in the light of “masculinity as the motive and not nationality”. The paper quoted him as saying that the migrants had “endured existential fears” and were then transferred to a society “where they are not allowed to do anything, not even have the prospect of being allowed to stay here.”

On New Year’s Eve, then, “something was being compensated for that night” and this “was released explosively”.

This sudden rush of thousands of sex assaults and rapes taking place simultaneously across Germany was essentially spontaneous, he said he believed, and was not actually “strategically” planned, as has been widely reported.

The policing academic also said the criticism of the police that they failed to intervene on the night had “deeply affected” and “shook” the force, but emphasised that in the years that followed, the police investigated themselves and this allowed them to discard “many stereotypes and prejudices”.

Local Cologne newspaper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger reports the 10th anniversary of the sex assaults was being memorialised on Wednesday night by a vigil in the same square by the Women’s Heroines group, which accuses police of being overwhelmed and that the importance of the attacks have been downplayed.

The Heroines group said in a statement of their motivation:

The consequences of failed migration and integration policies have long disproportionately burdened women: with acts of violence in public spaces, parallel societies that isolate themselves through clothing and behaviour, sprawling concentrations of young men, and an openly displayed rejection of central values of the free democratic order and thus of the hard-won women’s rights in Europe.

The Cologne New Year’s Eve attacks ten years ago were a warning sign of this trend at the expense of women and girls. And the far too late reaction of the city and authorities at the time was a worst-practice example of failed analysis… the acts were not accidental and cannot be explained by alcohol, trauma, or “cultural misunderstandings”… here is a clear motive: contempt for Western civilization. Europeans are seen as weak, their legal system as exploitable, their women as legitimate prey.

The group made 11 demands of the government, including that the government should recognise it has a constitutional duty to protect the life and liberty of women and girls and that this “takes absolute precedence over all considerations related to migration, integration, residency, and perpetrators”.

Violent and sex criminal migrants should have their citizenship stripped and be deported, they said, and big-money NGOs that ” downplay, excuse, or cover up violence” should be defunded.

Failure to deliver means the rule of law loses its legitimacy, they warned.

A persistent question in the wake of Germany’s 2015-16 New Year’s Eve attacks remains whether it could happen again. At the time of the attack, the pattern of behaviour in the mass rapes and sex assaults was compared to the “Taharrush” phenomenon in the Arab world, a “game” where large gangs of men attack women for sport. And given the frequency with which this has been cited over similar attacks since, it seems clear that it has already continued to occur in Europe, if at a slower pace.

“Taharrush” was cited on New Year’s Eve 2024-25, for instance, in the Italian city of Milan, when groups of “North African men” stalked women out partying for the holiday, with an eyewitness account stating: “We were trapped, helpless in the face of such violence! It was a waking nightmare… We were surrounded, and we couldn’t move! We held hands while they touched us all over the clothes and under the clothes! Despite our jackets and scarves. And it lasted 10 minutes, which is a very long time in this kind of situation.”

As reported at the time:

According to a report from the Italian newspaper Il Giornale, the prosecutor’s office in Milan suspects that the alleged sexual assaults were a manifestation of the “Islamic ritual” known as taharrush gamea, or the “collective sexual harassment in crowds”. The paper said the attacks generally target “insolent women, guilty of showing up in public”.

… The first widely documented ‘taharrush gamea’ incident occurred in Egypt in 2005 when the government allegedly hired gangs of men to assault female protesters and journalists sexually. Amnesty International reported in 2015 that since 2012, “mob sexual assaults, including rape, have become a regular feature of protests in the vicinity of Tahrir Square in Cairo.”

The practice has since spread into Europe, most notably in the 2016 New Year’s Eve Cologne attacks brought to international attention by Breitbart London… Gang sex attacks have also occurred in Italy, including in Milan on New Year’s Eve 2022 in the very same Piazza del Duomo when nine young women fell victim to similar sexual assaults, leading prosecutors to believe that the recent attacks may have been a copy cat of the incidents two years prior.
