100-Year-Old Veteran on Live TV: We Fought WW2 for Nothing, Britain Less Free Than in 1945

A centenarian Royal Navy veteran took full advantage of an appearance on live television to express his sorrow at the state of modern Britain, saying he and his comrades fought for freedom that has been frittered away, eliciting what critics called a “patronising” response by show hosts.

Royal Navy and Arctic Convoy veteran Alec Penstone told Britain’s ITV breakfast show “the sacrifice wasn’t worth” what the country has since become, mourning the loss of freedom he and his friends fought and died for.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Friday for a segment on the upcoming Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day on November 11th, Penstone was asked what the events commemorating fallen troops from the two World Wars meant, and what his message to the country now is. Far from the feel-good sentiments the piece had evidently been set up for, 100-year-old Penstone remarked: “I can see in my mind’s eye those rows and rows of white stones.

“All the hundreds of my friends, everybody else, who gave their lives. For what? The country of today. No, I’m sorry, the sacrifice wasn’t worth the result that it is now.”

Comedian Adil Ray, best known for creating Citizen Khan, a BBC comedy about a “British Pakistani” family living in “the capital of British Pakistan” — Birmingham, England — quickly interjected to ask of the veteran: “what do you mean by that, though?”.

Penstone continued: “what we fought for was our freedom. We find that even now, it’s a darn sight worse than what it was when I fought for it”.

Ray’s co-host Kate Garraway, a former journalist and news presenter, placed her hand on Penstone’s shoulder and reassured him that people of her generation did appreciate the sacrifice of the veteran and his friends, before announcing that he was to be presented with a compact-disc of Second World War-era popular music in thanks. British academic Professor David Betz was among those responding to the turn of events, calling Penstone’s remarks “heartbreaking” and the response from the television hosts “patronising” and “simply infuriating”.

According to a profile by the Royal British Legion, a prominent veterans organisation, Penstone was a young man when the Second World War broke out and initially volunteered as a messenger for the Air Raid Precautions organisation in London during the height of the Blitz. He said of his time in London during the worst bombing of the war: “The moments at 15 years of age, pulling bodies out of bombed buildings you grow up very quickly.”

His father, a veteran of the Great War, made Penstone vow not to serve in an infantry role due to the horrors he’d witnessed in the trenches in the Great War. So he joined the Royal Navy as a submarine-detector, and ended up in one of the most deadly assignments of the Second World War, on the Arctic Convoys. He also served in minesweeping to clear the sea ready for the D-Day landings, and in the far east, fighting Japan.

The Imperial War Museum states of the Arctic Convoys delivering materiel to the Soviet Union to help them fight Nazi Germany:

Conditions were among the worst faced by any Allied sailors. As well as the Germans, they faced extreme cold, gales and pack ice. The loss rate for ships was higher than any other Allied convoy route.

Over four million tons of supplies were delivered to the Russians. As well as tanks and aircraft, these included less sensational but still vital items like trucks, tractors, telephone wire, railway engines and boots.

While appearing on television today, Mr Penstone was seen wearing the distinctive white beret and badge of the Arctic Convoy Club, a veterans organisation for survivors which disbanded in 2005, given it had so few surviving members. On his left breast he wore a rack of British medals from his war service including the 1939-45 Star, the Atlantic Star, the Arctic Star, the Pacific Star for service in Burma, and Defence Medal for his service in the ARP.

Separately on a red ribbon, Penstone wore the insignia for a Knight of the Légion d’honneur for role in liberation of France. In 2024, Penstone was personally greeted by French President Emmanuel Macron and thanked for his service.

On his right breast, Penstone wore several Russian Medals including Medal of Ushakov for convoys, and USSR-era convoy medals. While these are not authorised for wear by Britons in uniform, it is normal practice for British veterans of the Arctic Convoys to wear them on the right breast in this way.

Europe’s Race to Net-Zero – and Total Self-Destruction?

In 1992, global carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions stood at 22.3 billion metric tons. By 2024, they had reached a record high of 37.4 billion tons— an increase of nearly 68%.

Europe, by comparison, emitted 4 billion tons in 1992. By 2023, this figure had fallen to around 2.5 billion tons, a reduction of approximately 40% — on a global scale, a derisory amount.

China, for its part, emitted only 2.5 billion tons of CO₂ in 1992. Today, China is responsible for nearly 12 billion tons of CO₂ emissions — five times Europe’s current emissions and one-third of the global total.

While Europe flagellates itself in a supposedly virtuous asceticism, aiming to eliminate carbon from the continent (“net-zero”), the rest of the world, led by China, is burning coal at full throttle, propelling global emissions to unprecedented heights.

Industrial collapse

Worse still, this European decarbonization has been accompanied by an accelerating industrial collapse. In 1992, manufacturing represented 20% of the European Union’s GDP; today, it accounts for barely 14%, and the trend is downward. Globally, Europe once produced nearly 30% of global manufacturing; it now represents only 15%, overtaken by China, which dominates with more than 30%.

Europe’s misguided decarbonization has handed its prosperity to China on a silver platter. Moreover, it has done so through the European Union. Many people despise the EU without really knowing why. Now they do.

Decarbonization is a pure myth — a fiction skillfully designed by Malthusian ideologues to keep Europeans in servitude (see Robert Zurbin, Merchants of Despair: Radical Environmentalists, Criminal Pseudo-Scientists, and the Fatal Cult of Antihumanism). Under the pretext of “saving the planet,” Europeans have dismantled their factories, outsourced their jobs, increased their energy costs, and subjected their economies to the tutelage of an authoritarian, arbitrary Brussels bureaucracy — as ignorant as it is malevolent and complicit with Beijing.

Murder by energy

When an American pays $100 to heat his home, a European pays between $300 and $500. When an American spends $100 to light his home, a European spends $200 — despite the average gross income in the United States being twice that of Europe and the average net income 2.5 times higher.

In Germany, 10,000 industrial jobs are being lost every month. The chemical industry, once the pride of the port of Antwerp, Belgium, is in rapid and massive decline. Chemicals in Antwerp are not a minor detail; they are a fundamental and structuring element of its prosperity. Antwerp politicians who attempt to balance public finances while adhering to the myth of decarbonization are deluding themselves. One can have either decarbonization or prosperity — not both. A choice must be made — now.

“But Global Warming!”

Environmentalists from all parties have turned Europe into a vast, unproductive, and dependent wind farm. But, say the well-trained creatures, “What about global warming? Won’t we all perish in torrents of lava and a deluge of floods if we stop building wind turbines, and fail to sacrifice our last factories on the altar of decarbonization?”

Even America’s premier climate alarmist, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, last week dismissed , in his words, the “doomsday view” that climate change would “decimate civilization,” and, according to Time, called for:

“a recalibration of priorities—including more funding for global health and a narrower focus on key technologies that can make a difference on climate. Paired with a move to cut funding for efforts to craft climate policy earlier this year, [Gates’] memo was perceived as an indication of a dramatic pivot.”

Since the beginning of the industrial era, a slight warming has indeed been observed — +1.2°C, not exactly the Apocalypse. Humanity will adapt, as it has always done — to ice ages, droughts, and floods. This will be all the easier now that we have at our disposal rapidly advancing technological tools: artificial intelligence, precision agriculture, and large-scale desalination.

Humans are preparing to colonize the Moon and Mars — where the average temperature is -63°C. But we are told we could not adapt to a 1.5-degree increase on Earth? What a grim joke.

We mock the credulity of ancient peoples who believed in myriad deities, to whom they did not hesitate to offer human sacrifices — even children. We condemn the Mayan rites — decapitations, immolations, the extraction of still-beating hearts — to appease Chaac, god of rain and storms, who demanded blood to make it rain; Quetzalcóatl, because blood nourished the cosmic serpent, and so on. We feel only contempt for such myths. Yet today, the European Union is sacrificing 500 million citizens on the altar of a faceless green god.

Not a single European will die from “global warming.” But millions could die from not being able to heat their homes during the winter.

What Europe needs

Europe needs a policy of strength — economic, military, geopolitical. It must destroy the myth of decarbonization and reaffirm its true goals: the well-being of individuals and families, economic growth, and technological progress. Relocate industry, free up fossil and nuclear energy, and invest massively in research. Only a sovereign, industrious, and assertive Europe will regain its prosperity.

The Chinese Communist Party, for years, has been opening two coal-fired plants a week. In just the first half of 2025, China expanded these coal-fired plants more than in the last nine years. Crucially, however, China has also been investing billions in nuclear-fusion energy – to provide limitless clean, cheap energy for the unimaginable amounts of electricity that will be required for global dominance in artificial intelligence.

Europe and the UK would be well-advised to stop listening to charming little scoundrels like Boris Johnson, that ephemeral former British prime minister who now profits from his “moral commitment” to the totalitarian absurdity of the “net-zero society,” cashing in with the highest-bidding regimes and lobbies.

Decarbonization is a myth. There is no “decarbonization.” Only Europe — alone, like an old drunkard lost in its fantasies — is hanging itself.

No better example illustrates the sham of decarbonization than the case of wind farms. Not a single wind turbine is profitable without massive public subsidies, which Europeans pay for every month through their exorbitant energy bills.

The real problem, though, rarely mentioned, lies in the replacement of these sad monsters. The lifespan of a wind turbine is short. By 2030, around 14,000 of them will need to be replaced in Europe. How fortunate! Simply do not replace them. The issue is easy: the semi-public companies managing these turbines have set aside nothing at all — not a single cent — for their replacement. All that is needed is to dismantle and remove them. Think of it: our landscapes will no longer be dotted with these useless eyesores. Then we can all write them off as a bet that was lost.

‘We can beat Reform!’ Arabic poster urging Labour voters to switch to Greens to block Nigel Farage’s path to No10 spotted in London

Mr Farage, Mr Polanski, Mrs Badenoch and Sir Keir’s faces all featured on the poster | GB NEWS

A poster calling for Arabic speakers to vote for the Green Party to stop Nigel Farage winning the next General Election has been spotted at a London bus stop.

GB News has seen a photo of the poster, which was accompanied by an English version, on Edgware Road earlier today.

The Arab population of Edgware Road is as high as 37.4 per cent in places. | 224 Edgware Road – Google Maps

The poster, which was not accompanied with any labelling to suggest it had been sanctioned by the Green Party, urged residents in the Queen’s Park & Maida Vale constituency to tactically block Nigel Farage’s march to power.

“We can beat Reform,” the English version of the poster said. “Leave Labour. Join the Greens.”

Mr Farage, Mr Polanski, Mrs Badenoch and Sir Keir’s faces all featured on the poster.

The poster included recent polling conducted by Find Out Now that put Reform UK’s nationwide support at 32 per cent.

The survey also put Zack Polanski’s Green Party in second place on 17 per cent.

Meanwhile, Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour ended up in joint third with Kemi Badenoch’s Conservative Party on just 16 per cent.

The poster suggested that the Green Party would overtake Reform UK if all Labour voters switched to support Mr Polanski.

Find Out Now’s poll could turn Queen’s Park & Maida Vale into a key battleground seat between the Green Party and Labour.

Electoral Calculus suggests such a scenario would see the Greens surge from 13.6 per cent to 30 per cent, putting them 2.1 per cent ahead of Labour.

Labour would likely lose thousands of votes, tanking from 52.5 per cent to just 27.9 per cent.

However, such a scenario would also see Reform UK put up a reasonably strong showing in the diverse borough, with Mr Farage trebling his vote share to 15.5 per cent.

Edgware Road, which is located in the City of Westminster, is known as a haven for the Arabic diaspora in London.

There are a large number of Middle Eastern restaurants and many shops include Arabic signage.

The Arab population of Edgware Road is as high as 37.4 per cent in places.

Arabic is also the second most spoken language in the City of Westminster.

More than 26 per cent of residents in the borough do not have English as their main language, including four per cent of residents who cannot speak English well or at all.

Despite no evidence of the poster being officially endorsed by the Green Party, Mr Polanski’s steady rise in the opinion polls has come as a result of hoovering up pro-Gaza supporters.

Mr Polanski has also looked to distinguish himself from Mr Farage by claiming the UK was “built on migration”.

He has also sparked fury by labelling the Reform UK leader a “fascist”.

Following Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York, Mr Polanski has also been sharing social media posts comparing the two to one another.

Mr Mamdani, who last week released a campaign advert of him speaking to New York voters in Arabic, has been described as a “communist” by US President Donald Trump.

GB News has approached the Green Party for comment.

When Two Stars Align…

Screengrab youtube

The ruling establishment of the EU will be watching closely the outcome of the Orbán-Trump White House Summit on Friday. As far as they are concerned, the close rapport between these two leaders and the influence Hungary can now exercise on the world stage is unwelcome news.

By now, yet another meeting between the Prime Minister of Hungary and the President of the United States is no longer unusual news. The close relationship between these two men was forged during Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign during the summer of 2016. At the time, when Orbán publicly endorsed his support for Trump’s presidential campaign, many European observers interpreted his action as a high-risk gesture. Eight years later, most of them discounted the possibility of a second Trump term and looked forward to Orbán getting his comeuppance from the incoming Democrat president. Orbán was the only EU leader to openly endorse Trump’s candidacy in 2024.

Even before Trump’s election in 2016, Orbán pointedly highlighted his preference for the Republican candidate. Praising Trump’s proposals on terrorism and immigration, he stated that “as a European, I could not have drawn up better what ‘Europe needs.’” Trump got the memo and soon concluded that he had at least one reliable European ally in Orbán. In May 2019, Orbán was invited to the White House for what would prove to be the first of several face-to-face encounters between the two leaders. In turn, in January 2022, Trump offered his complete support and endorsement for Orbán’s election campaign.

It was during 2024 that a relationship bordering on genuine affection was forged between the two leaders. Orbán visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago on two occasions and declared that he believed that the newly re-elected president was going to create peace between Russia and Ukraine. Since that time, there have been several phone calls between the two leaders dealing with the prospect of peace and critical issues such as tariffs and energy. “Viktor is a great person,” Trump declared during the Sharm el-Sheikh peace fest.

Until now the mutual admiration phase of the relationship between Orbán and Trump has not been seriously tested. Their political and intellectual affinity is well-known. It is likely that Trump was genuine in his praise of Orbán as a “very great leader, a very strong man.” However, when they meet this week, they will encounter each other not merely as two charismatic heads of state possessing a strong affinity for one another’s leadership style but as leaders pursuing their own distinct national interest.

Will the exigencies of realpolitik get in the way of their ideological bromance? It is likely that on most issues there will be little to divide the two parties. They are likely to sign a series of agreements on issues such as financial collaboration, the defence industry, and energy. However, Hungary’s request to be treated as a special case and be given a free pass to continue its imports of Russian oil despite Washington’s oil and gas sanctions will prove to be an interesting test of the relationship between the two leaders. So will Hungary’s close economic relation with China.

However, though the national interests of these two countries do not align on every issue, they are closely bound on the key domestic and geopolitical issues facing the Western world. Despite their difference on oil and gas sanctions, the two leaders share a similar orientation to the war in Ukraine.

No doubt the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict will be top of the agenda at this summit. The two leaders will want to assess the prospect for drawing up a realistic roadmap that could eventually lead to a peace agreement. Several Beltway insiders told me that Budapest remains their favourite site for an American-Russian summit later this year. Nothing would please the prime minister of Hungary more than hosting such a summit in Budapest.

In the end, it is likely that the demands of realpolitik will work towards strengthening the solidarity that has been cultivated by the two leaders. There is little doubt that the relationship between little Hungary and the American superpower is an asymmetrical one. But size does not always matter. The strengthening of diplomatic relations between Hungary and America is underpinned by an important coincidence of interest. Steve Bannon, Trump’s former chief strategist, famously called Orbán “Trump before Trump.” More recently, he stated that he saw Viktór Orbán as the “ridge between the U.S. and Europe’. That may be an exaggeration. It is more accurate to characterise Hungary as a well-tested conservative ally inside the EU. The leading lights in the MAGA movement recognise Orbán’s political intellectual legacy and regard him as the key voice of the conservative movement in Europe.

From the standpoint of Budapest, the election of Donald Trump represents its very own diplomatic triumph. For years, Orbán faced the threat of isolation by an informal alliance between the EU’s federalist leaders and the old Biden administration. That Orbán has been able to cultivate a close relationship with the White House has thwarted the attempt of the Brussels bureaucracy to diplomatically isolate Hungary. Whatever occurs at this Friday’s summit, the very fact that it is even happening shows that Viktor Orbán has emerged as a diplomatic player that Brussels can no longer wish away.

BBC Punishes Presenter For Identifying ‘Pregnant People’ as ‘Women’ in News Programme

A BBC News presenter has been upbraided for rolling her eyes while reading the phrase “pregnant people” from a teleprompter, correcting it to “women”, the broadcaster ruling she broke impartiality rules.

BBC News presenter Martine Croxall has had a complaint against her about her delivery of a news report in June of this year on health precautions to be taken during a heatwave. Offered up the phrase “pregnant people” in the script on her teleprompter, Croxall was observed to give a glance of frustration with the eyes before correcting to say “women”. She said: “the aged, pregnant people — women — and those with pre-existing health conditions need to take precautions.”

While her bosses inside the broadcaster were reportedly “intensely relaxed” about this moment and intended to take no further action, the language generated 20 complaints from the public which were assessed by the BBC’s internal Executive Complaints Unit (ECU), which has now decided to rule against her. The presenter is consequently to be censured.

The ECU said it found not only the act itself, but the fact Croxall had received congratulations from other members of the public for daring to say what some might think of as being the obvious was the proof that she had indeed expressed a “controversial view about trans people”. The body said those who had made complaints said they interpreted Croxall’s facial expression as “showing disgust, ridicule, contempt or exasperation.”

Graham Linehan, a comedian who has pursued aggressively by critics and harassed by police including being arrested at an airport over his views on transgenderism called the ruling “absolute astonishing”.

The ECU finding comes at a time of high reputational risk for British state broadcaster the BBC, following the leak of a suppressed internal dossier by its own ethics advisor which criticised it for materially misleading viewers with aggressively edited clips of a Donald Trump speech. The “mangled” footage make it appear that the President was going to go to the Capitol building with supporters on January 6th to “fight like hell”, when he actually told supporters “to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard”.

This scandal has intensified with other revelations of internal criticism for bias, including over programming on the Israel-Gaza war. In one stand-out incident, the BBC’s ‘Verify’ unit — the centre of its present bid to establish the corporation as the ultimate arbiter of truth in the United Kingdom with a world-class fact-checking body — was found to have been forced to delete a whole article on racism after it was found to make “thoroughly wrong” allegations. The internal standards advisor called it “ill-researched”, something of a fatal blow for a body specifically established to fight “disinformation”.

French-African woman suspected of burning and torturing her Swiss landlord, cutting his body in half, and stabbing him 28 times

The 75-year-old victim, was cut in half by the woman from the Ivory Coast, according to investigators.

A French woman with a migration background is accused of participating in a barbaric killing of her Swiss landlord in the French village of Fédry, including torturing and burning him.

The 75-year-old victim, who lived in France, was found by a local fisherman near a riverbank with his body cut in half and with multiple defensive wounds on his hands. The body, overall, had signs of severe mutilation.

The 39-year-old French woman was preparing to return to her original country of origin in the Ivory Coast, according to police.

The autopsy found the man had died from hemorrhaging caused by stab wounds to the chest. In total, the woman reportedly stabbed her victim 28 times.

Investigators believe he was first killed inside his apartment. A triangular knife tip was found in the victim’s body, and when the suspect’s car was searched, they found a knife with a broken tip. Investigators say the missing knife tip found inside the victim’s body exactly matches the broken knife blade, according to French newspaper Le Parisien.

After the murder, she set the apartment on fire. Police have arrested the woman.

The woman was also found to be in possession of a pump-action shotgun that could fire rubber bullets and €6,000, which investigators believe she was going to use to fly back to the Ivory Coast.

The woman was living in a rental unit in the village, which has fewer than 100 inhabitants, and which was located near the Saône River.

According to Swiss newspaper Blick, the landlord believed his tenant was “disturbed,” and he had reportedly evicted her after he became fed up with her behavior.

The mayor said he is in shock.

“We will contact his family tomorrow, probably, to offer our support and deepest condolences,” said Mayor Yvan Pahud on Wednesday. “What happened to him is despicable. You only see this kind of thing in the worst crime novels.”

The 75-year-old man was a well-known figure in the community. A member of the Liberal Party (PLR), he had served for many years on the municipal council and had even chaired it, reports 24heures.ch.

He was also very active in the community organizations in the area and chaired a number of organizing committees, as well as managing an agency distributing high-tech products from the medical and industrial sectors.

The man first went missing on Oct. 31.

Girls wearing hijabs at French parliament spark controversy

The photo share by the right-wing outlet Frontière.

Controversy erupted in France after girls and women were spotted yesterday wearing hijabs on the balcony of the French parliament.

The images quickly circulated on social media, first shared by right-wing outlet Frontières, prompting outrage from politicians in the National Rally (RN)  party and other factions on X.

Marion Maréchal, niece of RN de facto leader Marine Le Pen and head of the right-wing movement Identity and Liberty, described the incident as a provocation. “It is unacceptable to tolerate this Islamist provocation in the National Assembly,” she said.

RN President Jordan Bardella stated that, if the party ever comes to power, it would ban such attire nationwide.

Hijabs are already banned in French public schools but wearing them elsewhere remains permitted, whereas Niqabs are prohibited in public spaces.

While hijabs cover the hair but leave the face visible, niqabs cover the entire face, leaving only the eyes exposed.

In response to the growing online debate, Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly, condemned what he called “ostentatious religious symbols”.

“At the very heart of the hemicycle, where the 2004 law on secularism in schools was voted on, it seems unacceptable to me that young children can wear ostentatious religious signs in the galleries,” she said.

“We had not been confronted with this situation in the past. I have called on everyone to exercise extreme vigilance so that this does not happen again. It is a matter of republican consistency,” she added.

Critics, though, argue that Braun-Pivet’s response misinterprets the French principle of secularism.

Marine Tondelier, leader of the Greens, accused authorities of Islamophobia.

“There are things that are allowed and things that are not allowed; it’s not forbidden. The Assembly’s ushers are very scrupulous, so if it had been forbidden, they wouldn’t have got that far,” she said.

Left-wing leader in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, criticised Braun-Pivet for “throwing these young people who come to visit our Assembly to the wolves of the far-right and the press.”

She added that her party was “alarmed by the growing servility to the racist theses of the far-right” in the public debate.

Some observers also pointed out what they saw as a double standard: Men have been seen wearing kippas, brimless skullcaps traditionally worn by Jewish males, in the National Assembly corridors without any controversy.

According to Article 8 of the General Instructions of the Bureau, visitors must “dress appropriately” and remain “seated, bareheaded and silent” while observing debates.

Wearing religious clothing is not explicitly prohibited.

UK: Muslim ITV GMB star backs Sharia law in New York after election of communist mayor Zohran Mamdani

Adil Ray. Wikimedia Commons, CTigerWiki, CC-BY-SA-4.0

Adil Ray has sparked outrage among social media users after appearing to welcome the idea of implementing Sharia law in New York City following Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral election victory.

Earlier this week, New York City elected its first Muslim mayor after Mr Mamdani secured a remarkable victory over former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

The 34-year-old democratic socialist triumphed despite President Donald Trump’s eleventh-hour endorsement of Mr Cuomo on Monday evening, with the President even warning he’d be “reluctant” to provide federal funding to New York if “communist” Mr Mamdani won.

Mr Mamdani’s flagship policy involves freezing rents for four years on the city’s one million rent-stabilised flats, addressing the average Manhattan rents that have reached $4,778 monthly, as well as overhauling the city’s transport plans.

His agenda extends to establishing a network of city-owned grocery shops across the five boroughs and introducing universal childcare provision.

To fund these initiatives, Mr Mamdani proposes raising corporate tax rates to 11.5 percent and imposing an additional two percent levy on earnings exceeding $1m annually.

While President Trump was one vocal opponent to Mr Mamdani’s victory, over in the UK, one person who was overjoyed to see him emerge victorious was Good Morning Britain presenter Mr Ray.

Taking to X on Wednesday following Mr Mamdani’s win, the ITV star penned on X: “As a Muslim, at a time of division, Mamdani has brought much of his city together.

“He spoke for Mexican abuelas & Ethiopian aunties. ‘No longer would politics be something that is done to us. Now, it is something that we do’.

“It is shameful that no UK leader has done the same,” Mr Ray added in a parting shot to the current Labour government and opposition party leaders.

Soon after his initial post, Mr Ray followed it up with a second in which he addressed fears about the implementation of Sharia law.

“Some say Mamdani may implement Sharia Law. He might,” Mr Ray began. “The heart of Sharia is social justice, welfare, fairness, charity and cohesion.

Adil Ray welcomed the election win of Zohran Mamdani | X

“Most Muslim countries operate a hybrid of Sharia & civil law, are slowly reforming and abandoning unethical practices despite the west’s portrayal.” (sic)

Mr Ray’s seeming endorsement of the practice quickly sparked anger among those who’d seen the post, although they were unable to reply directly to it thanks to the presenter’s restrictions on social media.

Instead, many reposted Mr. Ray’s remarks, adding their thoughts alongside them. “Take your Sharia Law… and f*** off,” one X user raged while a second suggested: “This will be your undoing.”

“What a load of s***e,” another weighed in before a fourth took aim: “No right to reply allowed. Cowardly little man.”

Adil Ray appeared to back the idea of Sharia law in an X post | X

Despite the angst and opposition to his victory, Mr Mamdani put on an upbeat and defiant front when addressing the city’s voters after his win.

In his victory speech, Mr Mamdani addressed President Trump directly: “Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up.

“To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.”

The new mayor, who was born in Uganda and moved to New York aged seven, represents a stark departure from the Democratic establishment. He defeated Mr Cuomo despite having minimal name recognition and no institutional party backing when he entered the race last year.

Despite his pledges, Mr Mamdani faces significant obstacles in implementing his progressive agenda, with New York Governor Kathy Hochul already declaring her opposition to the tax increases necessary to fund his proposals.

Elsewhere, critics from Maverick Real Estate Partners have warned that the four-year rent freeze would prove “catastrophic” for building owners, whilst others question the feasibility of his minimum wage increase to $30 per hour by 2030.

His plan to create a department of community safety, deploying mental health workers instead of police for certain emergencies, has drawn criticism from opponents who consider it unrealistic.

The new mayor must also navigate relationships with the corporate and financial elite he criticised during his campaign, a reconciliation process he has already begun in recent weeks.

GB News has contacted Mr Ray’s representatives for comment.
