India: Non-codified nature of Muslim personal law poses significant challenges for women, lack of Uniform Civil Code  resulted in inequalities and inconsistencies

NCW discusses UCC, Muslim personal law and rights of women (Source: Twitter account of NCW)

On the 15th of July, the National Commission for Women (NCW) held a deliberation to discuss the rights of Muslim women. The particular focus of the discussion was to review the Muslim Personal Law.

The panel said that the “non-codified” nature of the Muslim personal law has led to misinterpretation and posed significant challenges for Muslim women.

After the discussion, the Women’s Commission issued a statement highlighting the key aspects of the discussion and its prominent attendees. According to the statement, the panel noted that there was an unequivocal need for the codification of Muslim Personal Law. Additionally, it argued that there is a need to revisit the marriage and divorce law and guardianship law.

During the discussions, the panel stated that the lack of a Uniform Civil Code has perpetuated inequalities within our diverse nation.

It stated, “The discussion also emphasised that the absence of a Uniform Civil Code has perpetuated inequalities and inconsistencies in our diverse nation, hindering progress towards social harmony, economic growth, and gender justice.”

NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma said that the nation needs to draft a legal framework to provide equal rights for all irrespective of their religious belief.

She said, “In our pursuit of equality, let’s reflect: if a law cannot serve the rights of Hindu, Christian, Sikh, and Buddhist women, can we truly say it is just for Muslim women? The need for codified laws is urgent. We need to work towards a legal framework that ensures equal rights for all, regardless of religion.”

Prominent participants in the discussions comprised notable figures such as Attorney General R Venkataramani, senior law officers, vice chancellors of law universities, legal experts, and civil society organizations.

According to the statement, Attorney General Venkataramani stressed that there is a need to reform and strengthen the institution of marriage. Further, the Attorney General emphasised the significance of granting equal respect and status to both men and women. Moreover, he emphasised the necessity for fairness in the processes that preserve the dignity of individuals involved in entering and exiting marital relationships, irrespective of their religion.

The consultations were held in the background of the ongoing debate on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Notably, the Law Commission issued a notification on the 14th of June, seeking responses from various organisations and the public in relation to UCC within one month.

A day earlier, on the 14th of July, the Law Commission of India extended the last date to submit views on ideas on the proposed UCC by two more weeks. Now, any interested individual, institution, or organisation may furnish their comments on the issue of the Uniform Civil Code till the 28th of July, 2023.

Austria: Syrian stabbed mother of 3 to death because he had to “restore his honour”

screen grab youtube

He killed the love of his life, the mother of his three children. Adil S. (name altered), a Syrian who had moved to Vienna to join his family at Brunnenmarkt in the Ottakring district only three weeks ago. The supposed happy family life did not last long.

His partner quickly revealed to him: “I just don’t love you any more”. This open rejection of his attractive wife was too much for the 35-year-old – and meant the death sentence for her!
What happened afterwards was described by the 35-year-old in the intensive care unit of the Vienna General Hospital to his defence lawyer and the murder investigators from the Vienna police department during the first interrogation. Without any emotion, he told them how he had executed the 28-year-old woman with 30 stabs of a knife. His only question was: “Is she really dead?” He made it perfectly clear why he had killed her: “I had to restore my honour!

Adil S. himself is in Vienna General Hospital because he jumped out of the window on the 3rd floor of the flat where the crime took place in order to take his own life. “He is currently paraplegic,” says his defence lawyer Manfred Arbacher-Stöger. But there is a chance of recovery in the coming months. The cost of his hospital bed (without treatments): 9000 euros per day. The suspected murderer has been in the hospital bed for a fortnight, he will be treated for another two weeks. That adds up to 252,000 euros!
A second suicide attempt by the Syrian shows that his life is apparently worth as little to him as that of the mother of his children: After he woke up from his coma, he bit through the intubation tube for his ventilation – in vain.

Maybelline goes full ‘Bud Light’ with a bearded male to promote its products

By Monica Showalter

Did Maybelline learn nothing from the Bud Light fiasco?

It’s hard to think otherwise, now that it’s trying to sell its beauty product with this weirdo:

That’s a grown man using women’s Maybelline makeup, and he puts those products on like a clown.

Who is Maybelline’s audience here? What are they trying to do?

Are they trying to sell to circus freaks?

Are they telling women to buy these products so that ‘you, too, can look like a clown?” Are they planning a line of fake beards for the gals, too?

Or are they expecting women to translate the experience down into their own context from his, as if they were the outsiders here in this world of women’s makeup, which extremely bad UX/UI as they say in the web design world, forcing customers to take those extra steps to get to “buy,” which is not how ads are supposed to work.

Makeup itself is historically associated with magic, with longing, with transforming oneself into something more beautiful than one is. That explains why women buy makeup. They do it to please themselves, they do it to have credibility at work or at court or at places of that nature where they need to be listened to and believed, they do it to best their female rivals for men’s attention, and they do it to attract men.

Not one of those things are accomplished with this freak appointed as Maybelline’s makeup spokesman.

News reports say that consumers do intend to boycott this company for its obvious contempt for its customers and they buy makeup.

Like Bud Light, Maybelline itself is a fairly low end makeup brand with many rivals. If these are the same customers as the Bud Light customers (and yes, Bud Light had a lot of women customers), it almost seems like a given that they will carry on with such a boycott, or, rather, flight, since they’re likely the same people.

Personal products, as Tom Wolfe noted in his piece called “The Natural” on black baseball player Willy Hammer who was featured in a men’s perfume ad, can evince some of the most visceral reactions and responses from customers if they are not played right and if customers are not receptive.  Wolfe wasn’t just blowing air here — he had interviewed Mad Men-type Madison Avenue advertising executives for his piece on the advertising trade. (The television series Mad Men may very well have been named after Wolfe’s book where the essay appeared: “Mauve Gloves and Madmen, Clutter and Vine.”) If that’s true, and I think it is, then some very basic rules of advertising, including the importance of not insulting one’s customers, is pretty obvious. I know I quit buying M.A.C. cosmetics back in 1998 when they started featuring a drag queen in store displays for their makeup. I didn’t want to look like a drag queen or be forced to benchmark that look as the ultimate look I would be going for. I just moved on to Laura Mercier — which was a higher-end label, just as the Bud Light customers moved on to higher-end, higher quality Modelo Especial.

These things are how customers behave.

Even if the ad makers knew nothing about the rules of advertising successfully, though, there’s no excuse for these people not to have noticed what happened to Bud Light when they started insulting their own female customers, thrusting a bearded male in front of them as the be-all of beauty, when there was nothing beautiful about his use of female beauty products.

Apparently, they thought that lesson didn’t apply to them, perhaps because they’re in a glamour industry, and glamour industries often have significant participation of the gay community. That’s actually never been a problem in the past in terms of attracting customers — but it is when the product becomes all about the strangest, most outre, most shock-the-bourgeoisie, aspects of the beauty trade. Women don’t want that thrown in their faces to the exclusion of their beauty needs, which they want to see affirmed, not mocked.

It’s sad stuff, but they dropped themselves into this. Now they can pay the bearded piper.

There you go ! Gang rapists in Mallorca have a migrant background, are “y origen turco”

Serious charges have been brought against six “Germans” on Mallorca. The police are investigating the gang rape of an 18-year-old girl. The “Germans” are said to have videotaped the crime with their mobile phones. A judge will now decide whether the “Germans” must be remanded in custody.

Six holidaymakers from Germany are being investigated on Mallorca for a possible gang rape. The six “Germans” are currently in a courthouse. The police said that one of the six “Germans” had met a young German woman in the night from Thursday in the party stronghold at Ballermann. Both had consensual sex in a hotel room.

Later, the woman was raped by some of the man’s five “German” friends. The woman finally managed to escape and, with the help of the hotel receptionist, alerted the police, who arrested five of the men at 3.40 a.m. on Thursday morning. The sixth suspect was arrested on Friday, German mainstream media report with reference to “Última Hora”.

What “Última Hora” reported, however, our left-wing journaille did not: The “Germans” in question, who were arrested for a horrible crime, a gang rape of a young woman, all have a Turkish migration background, according to the Spanish media. The media there now refer to the suspects as “La manada alemana” (Spanish for: the German pack). Incidentally, this is not the first time something like this has happened on Mallorca.

In 2019, our quality press had played a very similar game of obfuscation. Then, too, four “Germans” had been remanded in custody on charges of raping a German woman at Ballermann. And also then the “Germans” had a Turkish migration background.

According to the newspaper Bild, the current case is causing a stir in Spain. As Spanish media report, the number of violent crimes committed by foreign tourists has skyrocketed throughout the country in 2023.

Because many Muslims find it “obscene”: German women should no longer lick ice cream

Sarah Murray, CC-BY-SA-2.0

Colourful zebra crossings across every street, Pride flags on public transport and transgender pictures in kindergartens. While we are becoming more and more diverse, a major German newspaper asks whether women should eat ice cream in public. After all, Syrians would find that obscene.

It is simply part of the perfect summer day to walk through the city with an ice cream in your hand. But for many migrants this is not a matter of course, as Mohamad Alkhalaf explains in the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. In Syria, for example, it is considered obscene to lick an ice cream in public. Even worse, from a cone. Even bananas are cut into pieces before being eaten, so as not to trigger any bad fantasies.

“After all, it wasn’t long ago that this situation would have caused me considerable difficulties. A woman licking a scoop of ice cream in my line of sight. For several years, blushes of shame suffused my cheeks at such moments,” the author recalls. Incidentally, he thinks it’s okay to find it obscene here, too, but at least he suggests that immigrants get used to the fact that women are allowed to eat ice cream in Germany. Even transwomen – but it’s not quite that “colourful” in the newspaper “SZ” …

African Migrant Arrested After Woman Pushed in Front of Paris Train

A West African migrant has been arrested after allegedly pushing a woman in front of an oncoming train in Paris “for no apparent reason” on Friday, leading to the woman’s death.

The Paris prosecutor’s office announced on Saturday that a man has been arrested on accusations of murdering a 52-year-old woman by pushing her in front of a Réseau Express Régional (RER) train at the Cité Universitaire station in the 14th arrondissement of Paris on Friday morning, Le Figaro reports.

When the woman, who was of Algerian heritage and was wearing a hijab at the time, was pushed onto the tracks “for no apparent reason”, she got up, yet she was unable to escape from the oncoming train, which ultimately killed her.

A police source said that upon his arrest, the man claimed that he was “God” and that he “had to kill people”, specifically “weak people”. The source said that there were no immediate links between the alleged murderer and the victim.

According to a report from Le Parisien, the alleged perpetrator, who was born in 1981, was a migrant from the West African nation of Guinea.

The Guinean national successfully fled the train station but was arrested six hours after the killing for attempting to shoplift from a store in the Val-de-Marne suburb of Paris.

At the time of his arrest, he allegedly claimed to have told police that he had a hidden bag full of knives near the Vitry tram station that he intended to use to kill children and elderly people, which he is said to have described as easy prey.

The suspected murderer has since been transferred to a psychiatric facility, with the Paris prosecutor’s office saying: “The continuation of his police custody was considered incompatible with his state of health.”

So much for the horror heat wave: Cooling down to 27 degrees in just 5 days in Austria

A cool drink in the shady pub garden, a refreshing swim in the lake, a dreamlike panorama in the mountains – summer can be so beautiful. But unlike in the past, when it was eagerly awaited, today it is a cause for alarm for many mainstream media.

In just five days, however, the temperatures will drop again anyway: while the thermometer in Vienna shows more than 30 degrees at the weekend and at the beginning of the week, the temperatures will drop to 27 degrees on Thursday – just five degrees above a usual room temperature.

But it’s not only getting cooler in Vienna – starting in Bregenz, a storm front is already cooling temperatures from Monday. In the capital of Vorarlberg, temperatures drop to 26 degrees at the beginning of the week. In Innsbruck and Salzburg it will also be cooler at the beginning of the week – after temperatures initially drop to 29 degrees, they will drop to 27 degrees on Wednesday.

Some heavy summer thunderstorms may also occur in Graz, St. Pölten and Klagenfurt from Monday. Temperatures will remain above 30 degrees for the time being. It will cool down on Wednesday – 29 degrees Celsius are expected, dropping to 27 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

Linz and Eisenstadt will initially be spared heavy rain – but there may be isolated showers. From Wednesday, however, thunderstorms are expected here as well. Temperatures will drop to 27 degrees on Thursday.

In Vienna only isolated thunderstorms are expected – especially on Wednesday.

Germany: When the children were away from home, the Pakistani stabbed the German mother to death – he is only sentenced to a paltry 12 years’ imprisonment

Their sons (4/12) have to deal with the fact that their beloved mother is dead and the father, who became a killer, will be locked away for many, many years! A horrific family tragedy!

On November 4, 2022, Johanna A. (35) from Hamburg-Lohbrügge takes her little son (4) to daycare in the morning, his older brother (12) attends school.

When the mother of two returns to her flat in Harnackring, her husband Zahier A. (51) is lurking there. The Pakistani has been living only a few doors away for several months. Johanna A. had separated from him and wants a divorce. The 35-year-old has a new partner, but her ex cannot come to terms with that – and he still has a key to the flat they used to share.

A barbaric bloody deed is committed: Zahier A. pulls out a knife and stabs his wife. He then dials the emergency number himself, calmly puts the 20-centimetre knife in the sink – and allows himself to be arrested without resistance by the alarmed police officers.

Emergency doctors and paramedics cannot save Johanna A. – she dies at the scene! Police spokesman Sören Zimbal: “Despite immediately initiated resuscitation measures, the 35-year-old succumbed to her injuries at the scene.” The mother of two bled to death in the flat – from a stab in the aorta.

Before the fatal stabbings, Zahier A. is said to have discovered two used condoms in the waste bin of the bathroom. According to the newspaper “Hamburger Abendblatt”, he then said to his older son about his rival: “If she takes him home again, I’ll kill her.

Now the sentence against the killer who did not want to come to terms with the impending divorce: only twelve years in prison. No life sentence! Because: According to the court, murder characteristics such as insidiousness could not be substantiated in the trial. The 51-year-old was “only” convicted of manslaughter. The prosecution had previously demanded a life sentence in its plea.

German state of Bavaria to increase checks on Austrian and Czech borders to curb illegal immigration

Bavarian border police will be ramping up the frequency of random checks along the German state’s border with both Austria and Czechia in a bid to tackle a rise in illegal immigration facilitated by smuggling gangs.

The increased level of security will occur from August, Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann announced on Friday, adding that up to 50 more law enforcement officers will be deployed at the border every day.

“In August 2023, the Bavarian State Police will expand the support of the Bavarian Border Police with additional units, primarily for covert random checks,” Herrmann said.

“We will place the main emphasis on the fight against illegal migration and smugglers. Because of this, the Bavarian border police closely cooperates with the federal police, who also carry out checks in the border area,” he added.

One of the main migratory routes from Europe’s external border to Germany runs through Czechia, along which a large number of migrants without the necessary documentation pass through the country to affluent European nations in the north and the west.

Because of this, the German states of Brandenburg and Saxony demanded the temporary restoration of permanent border controls with the Czech Republic and Poland, along the lines of those that have been carried out on the border with Austria since 2015.

However, these controls do not exist along the entire border with Austria, but only at selected crossing points. Germany’s Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser rejected the extension of permanent border controls but agreed with Poland and the Czech Republic on a series of countermeasures, including more restrictive controls.

Bavaria is not currently requesting the renewal of permanent border controls. In May, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder assured Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala about this during a joint meeting in Regensburg. Söder praised the Czech leader for the fact that Czechia protects its borders well.

Bavaria is the only German state that has its own border police. However, its operation is closely linked with the federal police, which is in charge of border security in Germany.
