Apple’s iPhone14 registers rollercoaster ride as serious traffic accident
In the US, the number of faulty automated emergency calls is currently increasing. The trigger is the function of current mobile phones, which is intended to call the police in the event of serious car accidents if drivers can no longer do this themselves.
The emergency call center near an amusement park in Ohio alone has received six such emergency calls since the iPhone14 went on sale, even though the owner was actually taking a ride on a roller coaster.
The system that is supposed to prevent such false alarms is not foolproof: First, a message is shown on the display for 10 seconds, followed by a 10-second countdown with an alarm tone.
But while one is enjoying the ride, one would hardly be looking at a mobile phone. Besides, hearing the sound of a phone with the screeching of many roller coaster riders is well-nigh impossible.
Many software designers and companies appear to miss the point that being well intentioned is quite the opposite of good. At some point there will be an emergency that the police will consider a false alarm.
Italy’s government passes new law against illegal raves, but left claims law threatens freedom
One of the first things Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s coalition government did was to amend the penal code to crack down on the growing problem of illegal rave parties across the country. The left opposition, however, is now attacking the government claiming that the measure is a furtive way to curtail freedoms.
The amendment, which came into effect just as police were dismantling a rave party in Modena, raises the maximum penalty for unauthorized occupation of public spaces or buildings by over 50 people with three to six years in prison.
Using the new law, police forces declared the Modena rave party, held in a hangar, unauthorized. Authorities identified more than 1,300 people and 300 vehicles, seized technical equipment worth €150,000, and are prosecuting 14 organizers of the illegal rave.
The clampdown applies to events considered by law enforcement forces to be dangerous for the physical safety of participants or a threat to the public order. The organizers could face fines of between €1,000 and €10,000.
Enrico Letta, secretary general of the left-wing Democratic Party (PD), called the law, which he said restricted freedom of assembly, a Trojan horse that the right-wing government will use against trade union demonstrations and student protests.
In Italy, unauthorized occupation of educational institutions — universities and high schools — by students is a common occurrence and was tolerated by authorities in most cases.
However, these type of protests could now face serious legal consequences through the amendment of the law.
Cost of energy hampering Austria’s only salt producer
Salinen AG, based in Ebensee, is Austria’s only salt producer. Because of the massive price increases in energy, production has been cut back by 20 percent.
Just as Germans can no longer bank on clean water with standards lowered to compensate for a lack of energy in sewage treatment, Austria’s only salt producer is facing problems. CEO Peter Untersperger called for an end to the suicide sanctions against Russia.
The salt works already charge 12 percent more for salt, but actually they should raise the price by a good 30 percent so that they do not get in trouble with the increased costs. Because the stocks of gas are gradually decreasing and they have to buy more at the massively increased market price.
Production will therefore initially be reduced by 20 percent by the end of the year. CEO Peter Untersperger is especially tough on politicians. He demanded that Germany open Nord Stream 2 so that enough gas could flow to Europe and market prices could drop again.
Americans benefit from sanctions
The Saline CEO also thinks little of the sanctions imposed on Russia: “They don’t harm the Americans at all, they benefit from them”, but Germany and Austria “shoot themselves in the foot”.
In his opinion, the EU is also to blame, because it “made very, very big mistakes beforehand”. He explained: “We should never have offered Ukraine membership in NATO, but now you can’t go back, as Europe will lose face.”
He also criticised the government and its CO2 tax, which lead to “massive distortions of competition” with Germany. “Our German competitors get money thrown at them and we idiots are left in the dry and have to pay 400 euros for one megawatt,” said Untersperger.
Austria’s credit rating downgraded
Austria is dependent on Russian gas supplies. Nevertheless, the government has signed off on every suicide sanction package from Brussels. This has inevitably resulted in the highest inflation in 70 years with the rating agency Fitch now downgrading Austria’s credit rating.
Even if the previous credit rating of “AA+” was confirmed, Fitch is less optimistic about the future and the rating outlook was lowered from “stable” to “negative”. This means that the country’s international credit rating could soon plummet with long-term foreign currency bonds becoming more expensive.
In view of the lavish use of inflated money supply to cushion the ruinous lockdown and sanctions policy, this is bad news for Austria.
As early as March, the debt amounted to 350 billion euros and the national debt to over 70 percent of the gross domestic product. Austria’s national debt was almost as high as that of “bankrupt” Greece.
Fitch is also forecasting a recession for the coming year, essentially falling into the stagflation trap. This means that the economy is shrinking at the same time as the currency is depreciating massively. This shows once again that the economic forecasts that Austria had relied on were completely wrong.
In fact, the downgrading is now directly related to the support for sanctions: Fitch complained that Austria’s dependence on Russian gas was too high.

Austria: In the horrific riots on Halloween, the violent 200 to 300 migrants from Syria and Afghanistan involved shouted “Allahu Akbar”
An end to empty promises: Austrians finally want to see action after the shocking riots committed by migrants in Linz and Salzburg, the promised deportations should take place today, say eXXpress readers – Interior Minister Gerhard Karner ( Austrian People’s Party) should act.
They called on the social media channel TikTok to “re-enact” the massive race riots in Paris suburbs, they attacked and injured police officers, frightened the inhabitants of the inner cities of Linz and Salzburg – and they still yelled “Allahu Akbar” (” Allah is great”), the Islamists’ battle cry: The dramatic pictures of the riots of the violent 200 to 300 migrants from Syria and Afghanistan caused a shock among the Austrian population, eXXpress reported.
“There is an abuse of the right to hospitality” or “Soon they will also set fire to our houses” and “No more tolerance should be shown here” were posted by concerned citizens in the comment forums, while the well-known Austrian asylum lobby was conspicuous by its notable silence. Only Michael Landau, the chairman of Caritas, at least shared an article about the migrant riots on Twitter, albeit without comment.
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner ( Austrian People’s Party) said that the Syrians and Afghans involved in the riots would lose their asylum status and be deported. And: “Last night’s crimes are an expression of a profoundly anti-democratic attitude towards our constitutional values and attitudes,” the Minister of the Interior condemned Monday night’s riots. He instructed provincial police commander Andreas Pilsl and the Linz city police commander to hold a security summit with the mayor. This is also confirmed by Provincial Police Commander Andreas Pilsl.
However, many Austrians no longer believe these announcements of deportations. For example, an eXXpress reader posted in the forum: “We want to see the footage of the deportation today!” With 23,000 police officers on duty in Austria, it should perhaps also be possible to arrest the 30 ringleaders of the asylum riots within a few hours and fly them to Syria in a federal army transport plane. These pictures should then also be posted on TikTok. For days and over and over again.

France: A Sudanese political refugee attacks a young woman in the street after threatening her “Tonight I feel like killing a woman. Women don’t like me”
To escape the police, he climbs over the parapet of the Pont Royal in Orléans and falls almost ten metres.
[…]
When the police, who had been called by friends of the victim, spotted him, the man ran in the direction of the Pont Royal. At Quai Cypierre, he climbed over the parapet and jumped into what he thought was the Loire. In reality, he fell almost ten metres and landed on stones that were by the river. The man was taken to hospital in Orléans on Tuesday evening and (miraculously) suffered no broken bones.
If his health condition enables it, the Sudanese citizen, who has the status of a political refugee, should be quickly questioned by the police. A few minutes before his spectacular fall, he allegedly beat up a young woman who was walking home after an evening out with friends.
With a bottle in his hand, he threatened her with the following words: “Tonight I want to kill a woman. Women don’t like me” before grabbing her by the neck from behind. La République du Centre
