When the police, who had been called by friends of the victim, spotted him, the man ran in the direction of the Pont Royal. At Quai Cypierre, he climbed over the parapet and jumped into what he thought was the Loire. In reality, he fell almost ten metres and landed on stones that were by the river. The man was taken to hospital in Orléans on Tuesday evening and (miraculously) suffered no broken bones.

If his health condition enables it, the Sudanese citizen, who has the status of a political refugee, should be quickly questioned by the police. A few minutes before his spectacular fall, he allegedly beat up a young woman who was walking home after an evening out with friends.

With a bottle in his hand, he threatened her with the following words: “Tonight I want to kill a woman. Women don’t like me” before grabbing her by the neck from behind. La République du Centre
