Web giants shouldn’t get to decide what we can say -Meloni

Brothers of Italy (FdI) leader Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday that Web giants should be stripped of their ability of limit what people say on social-media platforms via their terms of service.
“I think, in an age when opinions travel prevalently on these channels, it is absurd that one has to obey the diktats of the owners of the platforms,” Meloni said via Facebook.
“They claim the right to say what is right and what isn’t, what you can say and what you can’t.
“Freedom of speech is a fundamental principle for us, not a concession from the web giants.
“The same rules should apply on social media as on other news media.
“Freedom of speech and transparency in the handling of our data cannot be put into doubt.
“We proposed this in opposition and we will in government too”.
Meloni is tipped to become Italy’s first woman premier after Sunday’s general election.
The centre-right coalition had a big lead in the opinion polls, with FdI the top party, before a pre-vote media blackout of surveys kicked in.
